How many of you guys have grown up with hard copies of encyclopedias, raise your hands! The drawback to physical copies is that not only will they eventually go out of date, but they can never be updated, which might explain why Wikipedia has managed to become as popular as it has today. Not only is the information in Wikipedia crowd sourced, but given its digital nature, it can be updated as soon as something new has been revealed, ensuring that everyone is always up to date at all time. If the rumors are to be believed, Samsung could announce a new Galaxy Gear 2 alongside the Galaxy S5 at MWC 2014 at their Unpacked 5 event. We have also heard how Samsung could have multiple Galaxy Gear models apart from just the Galaxy Gear 2, and now according to a new rumor from the Korean media, it has been suggested that at least one of the Galaxy Gear variants will be called the Galaxy Gear Fit. Based on its name alone, we can tell that it is going to be some kind of fitness-related accessory. However with the Galaxy Gear already sporting some fitness features, what would make the rumored Galaxy Gear Fit any different?
Well for starters, it seems that the device will be more of a fitness band that would compete against the likes of Fitbit, Jawbone, and the Nike FuelBand. The device will allow users to track physical activity such as steps, distance run, and so on, and will reportedly also be able to monitor the user’s sleep. The rumors also claim that Samsung will be losing the integrated camera which could ultimately help to keep the price down. It sounds like a good idea and we guess it can’t hurt to have more fitness band alternatives in the market. Either way do check back with us on the 24th of February for all the details. In the meantime would any of you guys be interested in a Samsung fitness band?

Yahoo has decided that now is the perfect time to drop the beta tag from My Yahoo! Over the last year or so, users have had the option of using the new My Yahoo with a completely new look, feel, and features. It was still in the “beta” phase which meant that Yahoo was requesting feedback and tweaking things to make it just right. On the My Yahoo! Blog, they made the announcement that they were out of beta, but also announced that they were changing the way they used advertising on the site.
Probably the biggest and most welcomed change is the simple fact that that there are less adds and the ones they do display are less intrusive. They are also providing more custom-designed modules and new Yahoo! modules that will integrate content from some of Yahoo’s other services like Flickr or Movie Showtimes. If you’re new to the new My Yahoo, it may be worth it to take a look at some of the tips they provide for making the most of it. Tips for the new My Yahoo! can be found here. Customization is everywhere which is necessary these days, for a true personalized homepage.
The other last bit of information worth noting is that with the New My Yahoo out of beta, Yahoo is ready to drop support for the original My Yahoo! That means the original version is retiring. This is scheduled to happen on July 14th (Monday). They say, “at that point, access to the original My Yahoo! will no longer be enabled. The new version of My Yahoo! was built for you and similar to our recent advertising change, we will remain committed to improving the product based on your feedback.”

Thanks to a leaked photo the other day, a certain HTC Desire 8 handset was revealed. The handset’s design and existence was then confirmed by HTC themselves when they teased its announcement for the 24th of February in Beijing. The specs of the handset were only rumors back then, but they have since been “confirmed” by the ever reliable @evleaks whose recent tweet revealed the specs of the handset, which coincidentally enough corroborates the earlier rumors as they appear to be more or less the same.
Now we knew that the HTC Desire 8 was not a high-end device, but rather one with mid-ranged specs, and these are the specs according to @evleaks. For starters we can look forward to a 5.5-inch 720p HD SuperLCD display. The handset will also be powered by a Qualcomm MSM8928 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.6GHz. it will be accompanied by 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD, a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, HTC’s Sense 6.0 UI, BoomSound (basically front-facing stereo speakers like the HTC One), and will be available in black, white, red, yellow, and purple. Interestingly enough @evleaks has referred to the handset as the HTC A5, although many are speculating that they could be the same device, just with different names for different markets.
