You’ve seen all the mind-boggling space images from the Hubble telescope, so this might seem… bizarre. What looks like a light painting or a computer rendering is an actual image sent back during the Hubble’s observing session. This is what happens when the telescope locks onto a bad guide star. The European Space Agency explains:
Supposing you’re the sort of person that purchases a smartphone because it has all the newest specifications – biggest and therefor best, that is to say, you may not be … Continue reading

It's nothing, really. Just a nice idea.

Something I’ve learned over the last few years is that Google is always right.
It criticizes the NSA for snooping, when it quite happily crawls all over your e-mails. But it’s right, because it’s for your own good.
It pumps ads at you even when you’re writing e-mails, but it’s right to do so. Because these ads are far better than all the other ads you’ll see on the Web.
And then there’s Google Glass, which Google insists isn’t a creepy, awkward intrusion into public and private life. So Google must be right.
Well, except that those who have so far resisted a Google chip being implanted into their brains still feel that Glass might be for the self-righteous, rather than the normal human being.
Of late, Google seems to have adopted a crouching posture, as the criticisms and humor have rained its way.
First, it issued a Do’s and Don’ts post — in which it asked its Glass Explorers not to behave like Glassholes. Yes, they needed to be told.
Now the company has published a lengthy post on Google+ titled “The Top 10 Google Glass Myths.“

Cloak App Uses Foursquare & Instagram to Help You Avoid People: The Antisocial Network
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe rise of social media networks and services have made it very easy for people to reach out and be heard. But a new iOS app called Cloak uses these very services for the opposite effect. Cloak taps into location data from the people you follow on Instagram and Foursquare. You can then flag those people and Cloak will alert you if they’re nearby. You’ll know when you need to relocate, hide or wrap up your heist.
Cloak is free for iOS devices. I wasn’t able to test it because I’m one step ahead – I don’t have a Foursquare or an Instagram account. But I think it’s worth noting because it’s a funny way of usurping social media. It would be even funnier if someone made an app that will help you stay away from Cloak users. You can call it Buzzkill.

The Untold History of Ugliness
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe’ve all had that moment while perusing a flea market or junk store when you stumble across an item and have to yelp, "Good lord, that is ugly!" So ugly, in fact, you have to marvel that it even got made in the first place.
