Man Puts A Hammer To The Galaxy S5, Gets A Nasty Surprise

Whenever a new handset has been released, many take to YouTube to find out all they can about it. Then there are also those who take advantage of the product’s popularity to create videos based around it, whether it be drop tests, scratch tests, waterproof tests, bulletproof tests, and so on.

One particular YouTuber decided to perform a hammer test on the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S5 where presumably the goal was to see how durable the Galaxy S5 is when faced with the might of a hammer. The results are somewhat predictable but then again it’s not everyday we run the risk of getting our phones hammered, right?

What was unexpected was when the YouTuber flipped his phone over and started hammering onto the back of the phone, popping open the battery case where he proceeded to land a hit or two directly on the battery itself. As you can see in the video above, the battery swells up like a balloon before releasing a cloud of what can only be assumed is toxic gas while hilariously spinning around like a deflated balloon.

We’re not sure if this was the smartest thing for the person in the video to have done, and we’re not sure what are the potential health hazards he might be facing from breathing in the gas (he’s lucky the battery didn’t explode), but either way it makes for a humorous video on how to not conduct durability tests.

iPhones Popular Amongst Teens, iPads Not So Much [Study]

iPhones Popular Amongst Teens, iPads Not So Much [Study]If you have a teenage son or daughter, or maybe if you’re a teen reading this article, what phone do you use? Is it an iPhone? Will your next phone also be an iPhone? Perhaps your answer could be yes, perhaps it could be in the negative, but according to a recent study conducted by Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster, it has been revealed that the iPhone is the phone of choice for teens.

In the study, 7,500 teens were asked what devices they owned and what their next phone could be. It was found that 61% of the teens surveyed now own an iPhone which is actually an increase from October 2013 where only 55% had an iPhone, and it is also up from 40% in the fall of 2012. 67% of the teens surveyed also revealed that they expect their next phone to also be an iPhone.

Tablet use has also gone up amongst teens to 60% which is up from 56% last fall. Interestingly enough it seems that while tablet use is up, demand for the iPad might have dropped. 66% of the teens surveyed owned an iPad which is down from 68%, hinting that maybe teens are starting to move on to other brands and platforms instead.

The study also covered Apple’s rumored iWatch device and 17% of teens indicated that they would be interested in purchasing the device if Apple sold it for $350 or less. According to Munster, “The bigger takeaway from our survey is that 17% of teens suggested they would be interested in an iWatch, which we believe is an indication of consumer thirst for not only the iWatch specifically, but the new product categories that have been promised by Apple.”

Office For iPad Team Confirms Print Feature Is Coming “In Due Course”

Office For iPad Team Confirms Print Feature Is Coming In Due CourseEarlier when Office for iPad was launched, one of the features that many noticed were missing was its ability to print directly from the iPad app itself. According to Microsoft, a rather vague statement seemed to suggest that printing would be arriving at a later date and this was confirmed during a recent Reddit AMA that the Office for iPad team did.

According to the team, it was confirmed that printing is a feature that will be introduced to the app in the future. This was revealed by Sangeeta Mudnal, the group program manager for Excel, who wrote, “Print is a high demand feature that we intend to introduce in due course.” (more…)

BlackBerry Kopi Leaked Again, Spotted Alongside The BlackBerry Q5

BlackBerry Kopi Leaked Again, Spotted Alongside The BlackBerry Q5Just last week we managed to catch a glimpse at alleged photos of the BlackBerry “Kopi”. For those unfamiliar with the device, it’s apparently one of the devices that BlackBerry had cancelled before the company decided to go ahead with the BlackBerry Z3 and the BlackBerry Q20. We’re not sure why BlackBerry decided to cancel the phone, but interestingly enough it has been getting a lot of attention as of late, thanks to even more leaked photos.

The photos were leaked by genk.vn and this time it is seen next to the BlackBerry Q5 for comparison purposes. As far as we can tell, both devices look pretty much the same, save for the silver accent at the bottom of the BlackBerry Kopi. In fact for all we know, perhaps the Kopi’s alleged cancellation could be due to the fact that it is too similar to the BlackBerry Q5 which would be pretty pointless.

However with all these recent leaks, we can’t help but think that the device isn’t as dead as we’d like to believe. BlackBerry did state that they are planning on appealing to fans and loyalists who apparently prefer BlackBerry’s QWERTY devices rather than their full touchscreen handsets like the BlackBerry Z10 and the Z30, but what do you guys think?

Why ketchup is so damn hard to pour—and how to pour it perfectly

Why ketchup is so damn hard to pour—and how to pour it perfectly

Ketchup, that delicious nectar of a condiment, is more annoying than it should be to pour out and enjoy. Why? Partly because of the dumb bottle it’s in but mostly because it’s a non-newtonian fluid in more than one way. Watch TED-Ed explain why it’s so damn hard to pour out and what you should do instead in this enlightening animation.

German Carrier Launches WhatsApp Specific SIM Card Deal

German Carrier Launches WhatsApp Specific SIM Card DealWhatsApp is proving itself to be an extremely popular instant messenger app. Recent stats revealed that the company processes about 64 billion messages a day which is a lot of messages being sent and received by its users. It could also explain why Facebook might be interested in the company and were willing to pay an eye-watering $19 billion for it.

Now it seems that WhatsApp’s popularity and its ubiquity have resulted in a German carrier creating a special prepaid SIM card that will give users unlimited access to WhatsApp on top of data limits. What this means is that you will be able to send and receive WhatsApp messages without it eating into your regular data which would make it great for power users and for tourists traveling to Germany but would like to keep in touch with friends and family with the app. (more…)

Decision To Ship Office For iPad Was Made During Steve Ballmer’s Tenure

Decision To Ship Office For iPad Was Made During Steve Ballmers TenureThe rumors about Office for iPad have made their rounds for a couple of years, so we have to wonder why did it take Microsoft so long before the apps were finally shipped to iPad users? Could it be that the former-CEO, Steve Ballmer, had issues with Office for iPad and delayed it and that Microsoft’s new CEO, Satya Nadella, was the one that gave it the greenlight?

Well it turns out that maybe Office for iPad took long than it should have for other reasons, but Steve Ballmer was definitely not one of them. Speaking during a Reddit AMA session, the team that put together Office for iPad revealed that the decision to ship the apps was made by Nadella became the new CEO. (more…)
