Facebook Rumored To Launch Their Own Mobile Ad Network

Facebook Rumored To Launch Their Own Mobile Ad NetworkJust like how Google has AdMob and how Apple has iAds, it seems that Facebook themselves could be thinking about launching their own mobile ad platform. This is according to Re/code’s sources who have mentioned that it is possible that Facebook could be announcing their own mobile ad platform at their F8 developer conference in San Francisco which will be held at the end of the month.

Since Facebook has pretty much all of our user information, such as the type of company we work for, our education background, our likes, and so on, they are said to leverage that information to make their platform a more attractive space to advertise on since advertisers will be able to create even more targeted ads.

Naturally Facebook has declined to comment on the matter but this is hardly a surprising move. Facebook, over the past few years, has shown itself to be extremely eager at monetizing its social networking service. This started out as regular banner ads placed all over the page, then it transitioned into other forms of revenue-generating tools, such as allowing users to pay to boost the reach of their posts on their Facebook Pages.

There are even sponsored posts which shows up as a regular post in your News Feed, showing viewers certain pages or brands that their friends might like, and so on. The idea of a mobile ad network is not new either as earlier this year, Facebook mentioned that they were experimenting with the idea, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it were made a reality. Either way we guess we will find out more on the 30th of April, so do check back with us then for the details.

BlackBerry’s CEO “Really Likes” The Idea Tablet

BlackBerrys CEO Really Likes The Idea TabletThe BlackBerry Playbook is BlackBerry’s first attempt at a tablet and while we have been hearing rumors that BlackBerry is planning on a Playbook successor, well safe to say we haven’t really seen or heard anything since.

This isn’t to say that BlackBerry is opposed to the idea of a Playbook successor, but when exactly might we expect such a device? Well if John Sims’ statement is anything to go by, it seems that BlackBerry is pretty excited about the idea of a tablet which will hopefully translate into a new device hit the market in the near future.

Speaking to the folks at N4BB, Sims, the President of Enterprise at BlackBerry, was quoted as saying, “We see value in a tablet and I can tell you that John Chen REALLY likes the idea of a tablet.” Recently BlackBerry and Nanthealth have teamed up to create a medial smartphone, not to mention their partnership with Foxconn would seem to suggest that the company is open to collaborations.

Perhaps we might seem the Canadian company embark on yet another collaboration with its next-gen tablet, but for now we guess we’ll just have to take comfort in knowing that BlackBerry is still excited at the idea of a new tablet. In the meantime what do BlackBerry users think? Are you guys looking forward to a new BlackBerry tablet, or are you perfectly happy with your iPad or Android device?

3D Printed Cast With Ultrasonic Vibrations Helps Speed Up Recovery

3D Printed Cast With Ultrasonic Vibrations Helps Speed Up RecoverySo we’ve seen how 3D printers can be used to print medical-related gadgets, such as a portion of a skull, and while those are great and serve as viable alternatives compared to current implants and whatnot, wouldn’t it be better if those 3D printed medical gadgets/accessories could actively help your healing process as well?

Well perhaps now it can, thanks to a prototype cast which not only acts as a regular cast, but at the same time uses ultrasonic vibrations that will help speed up the bone healing time. This design was put together by Turkish student, Denis Karasahin, who managed to win the 2014 Golden A’Design Award for his idea.

Now the concept of 3D printed casts and ultrasonic vibrations to help heal bones have been around for a while. One of the difficulties of ultrasonic vibrations is that it requires the leads to be placed directly on the skin above the part of the bone that needs healing. As you can imagine, plaster casts make this impossible, if not extremely difficult, but as you can see in the image above, a 3D printed cast can allow for openings where the leads can be placed onto the skin.

Unfortunately this seems to be in its prototype stages right now, but given that 3D printing is catching on, especially in the medical industry who has seen a lot of use for such devices and the objects it can print, we wouldn’t be surprised if this idea catches on a lot faster than we’d expect. Soon we might be able to say goodbye to smelly and dirty casts, and hello to quicker recovery time!

Microsoft Patents Kinect-like Feature For Future Smartphones/Tablets

Microsoft Patents Kinect like Feature For Future Smartphones/TabletsA few years ago, we were still interacting with our smartphones by pressing on keys and buttons in order to perform certain tasks. Nowadays we have phones that are able to do our bidding without us actually needing to press any buttons, just the screen itself. In fact there are even features which we can use that won’t even require us to touch the screen, although there aren’t that many phones like that at the moment.

So what’s next in smartphones? Could Project Ara be the future of smartphones? The idea of being able to swap out parts if and when we need sounds pretty cool, but in a patent filed by Microsoft, it seems that perhaps one day we might not even need to touch our phones. The patent, discovered by Patent Bolt, describes a device that will feature two cameras – a visible light camera and a depth camera.

When combined, it will allow the device to track the user or their finger and will then translate it into on-screen movement. It sounds a bit like the Kinect and it also reminds us of the Minority Report movie in which Tom Cruise’s character can interact with his computer simply by performing a set of gestures, as opposed to touching the screen directly. Of course we expect that this use could be applied to other products, such as Windows-based computers.

However it should be noted that this patent was filed for back in 2012 meaning that it’s been 2 years and we haven’t seen any products from Microsoft that uses this technology. The thing about patents is that there’s no guarantee that the companies will actually use them and turn them into actual products, but it’s still a pretty neat idea and one that we don’t mind seeing one day. What say you?

General Mills Comes to its Senses, Reverses Legal Policy on “Likes”

General Mills Comes to its Senses, Reverses Legal Policy on "Likes"

General Mills has come to its senses, reversing its very recent and instantly unpopular attempt to punish customers who have liked it on Facebook or downloaded and used digital coupons. The original idea had been to force customers who have benefited from the cereal giant’s online generosity to give up their legal right to sue GM for any reason, funneling those customers instead into arbitration. In a blog post explaining the news earlier today, General Mills claims it "never imagined this reaction." Perhaps they need a better PR team. [General Mills, Huffington Post]
