It’s undeniable one of the biggest games to be released this year is Call of Duty: Ghosts. The next game in the beloved Call of Duty franchise will be releasing on November 5, and during Microsoft’s Xbox One presentation at this year’s Gamescom, Activision had some news to share regarding the Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts. It’s long been a solid argument by PC gamers that PC hardware can always outperform consoles any day, but the lack of focus on PC games by developers has lead to a bottleneck of sorts, where studios are simply porting console games to PC without optimizing it to use PC hardware to its fullest extent. When I was growing up and before video games were so popular, I was given action figures to play with, but these days with kids having access to smartphones, tablets, and video game consoles, are action figures still relevant? That’s what Activision tried to do by combining action figures with a video game that resulted in the Skylanders title. For those unfamiliar, Skylanders is a video game that uses figurines to interact with it through the use of NFC. It was a novel idea but it appears that kids love novel.
According to a new press release from Activision, the company is claiming that the Skylander toys have actually managed to outsell all other action figures in the US in 2013, and these numbers are based on internal Activision numbers along with the US NPD Group’s numbers. The Skylanders franchise has managed to produce $1.5 billion in revenue around the world, and while it might not be the best-selling video game title, Activision claims that the latest Skylanders Giants title is the best-selling console and handheld title in overall dollars spent in 2013. Not too shabby!
Yesterday, Activision and Infinity Ward showed off some new features that would be coming to the online multiplayer segment of Call of Duty: Ghosts. The obvious elements were shown off in the teaser video, with huge explosions and all the cool weaponry that you could possibly want. However, a surprising new element has been added […]
Activision and Infinity Ward have bundled expensivegadgets with the last few Call of Duty special editions, and they’re keeping up this recent tradition with Call of Duty: Ghosts. Buy the Prestige Edition of the game on November 5th and you’ll get a 1080p, water-resistant “tactical camera” with a 4GB memory card. While it’s not clear which company makes the wearable cam, Activision claimed during its Ghosts multiplayer unveiling that the device should hold up against counterparts sold in stores. The Prestige Edition is appropriately expensive at $199, although you’re getting a lot for your money — besides the camera and game, the box also includes a carrying case, a Season Pass for downloads and a paracord strap. If you’ve ever wished you could record your adventures beyond your game console, this is certainly the bundle for you.

Gamescom 2013 is set to kick off later this month, which is Europe’s answer to E3 where a number of publishers and developers go to show off their upcoming titles. One such company that is expected to make a big splash during the show is Activision as they’re expected to unveil details on Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer modes. At this point, details concerning the game’s multiplayer modes are scarce, but at least one new mode for the game was teased over the weekend. (more…)
Activision made a pretty big announcement yesterday as they will be brining Call of Duty: Ghosts as well as a number of other titles to the Nintendo Wii U, but it seems that wasn’t the only bit of big news the publisher had up its sleeves. According to a press release sent out by Activision Blizzard just a few hours ago, the studio has reached a deal with Vivendi Universal reacquire its shares for approximately $8 billion. (more…)
Gaming giant Activision Blizzard announced it’s buying out most of majority shareholder Vivendi’s stake, at a total price of about $8.2 billion. Activision will pay about $5.83 billion in cash to Vivendi for 429 million shares, while an investment group led by CEO Bobby Kotick and co-chairman Brian Kelly will pick up 172 million shares for $2.34 billion, leaving Vivendi with 83 million shares, or about 12 percent of the company. The publisher of titles like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft (and Guitar Hero before it ran that into the ground), Activision reported $1.05 billion in net revenue for Q2 and raised its full-year revenue outlook slightly, although full results won’t be available until August 1st. As Joystiq mentions, Vivendi has been unsuccessfully trying to sell its part of the company for nearly a year, hopefully this transaction works out the best for everyone. By everyone, we mean people still waiting for StarCraft: Ghost.
It’s been up in the air for a while whether or not we’d see Call of Duty: Ghosts make its way to the Wii U. Activision didn’t initially announce Wii U support when it first made the game official, and executive producer Mark Rubin pretty much hinted to the fact that we would see a Wii U version, but now it’s official.
Activision announced its fall lineup of Wii U games, including Call of Duty: Ghosts. The best part is, the Wii U version will launch on November 5, which is the same day that the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions will launch. Still no word on next-gen versions, but they’ll be launching alongside the new consoles in November as well.
The press release doesn’t reveal much about the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, other than that the game will support the “Wii Remote and second-screen on the Wii U GamePad.” Other than that, we’re not sure how the game will utilize the second screen on the GamePad, but hopefully it’ll enticing enough for Wii U gamers to fully enjoy.
Back in June, Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin pretty much confirmed the Wii U version of the game, but didn’t necessarily point it out deliberately, only saying that the company “isn’t talking about Wii U yet.” At that time, they wanted to keep the Wii U launch a mystery, but it wasn’t really a mystery anymore after that point.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is the latest in the popular Call of Duty franchise, and it’s being developed by Infinity Ward this time around (Treyarch and Infinity Ward switch every year). Infinity Ward made a name for themselves when they released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2007, which completely changed the first-person shooter market and is still used as a template for shooter games to this day.
