HTC Doubleshot slides through the FCC

HTC Doubleshot, aka MyTouch 4G Slide

Rumor has it that the HTC Doubleshot, aka the MyTouch 4G Slide, will be popping up in T-Mo shops across the country on July 6th. But, before consumers can turn in that paper they’ve been stackin’ for one, the handset has to make it by The Man. Well, the FCC just cleared an HTC phone with a QWERTY keypad and a 1700MHz radio inside, and there’s a good chance it just so happens to be that Sensed-up, dual-core Gingerbread slider we’ve been waiting for. Sadly, regulators don’t have any teardown pics for you to ogle but, hey, we’ve got an FCC tag — that’s gotta count for something… right?

T-Mobile announces June availability for Samsung Exhibit 4G and Gravity Smart

We’ve heard rumblings that Samsung’s Exhibit 4G would be making its way to T-Mob on June 8, but now the carrier has confirmed that the Gingerbread smartphone will be available sometime in June. The Exhibit will join Samsung’s Gravity Smart, both featuring grounded sub-$100 price tags (after $50 rebate) when they hit stores. T-Mob is displaying the Exhibit with violet and black finishes, and says you’ll see “theoretical” peak download speeds of 21Mbps on the HSPA + handset. As for the Smart, the carrier’s first Android-powered Gravity smartphone will launch with 2.2 Froyo, and includes a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, so you’ll be sending Group Texts to 50 of your closest friends with four rows of hardware keys. Both phones include 3 megapixel rear-facing cameras with flashes, while the Exhibit adds a front-facing cam as well, so that myTouch 4G girl may be hawking a new smartphone on your TV later this month.

EVO 4G getting Gingerbread on June 6th (or Friday if you’re impatient)

Well, this was inevitable. After Sprint’s website snafu outing its Android 2.3 intentions for the EVO 4G, we’ve received evidence that points to June 6th as its release date. Better yet, if you’re willing to manually check for its availability, you might even find a happy surprise this Friday. In addition to Gingerbread, users will find SMS and Gmail fixes, along with a tweak to the phone’s power management software. Hopefully you’ve got WiMAX, because this update is coming over-the-air. Should everything go according to plan, users will have less than a week to say goodbye to Froyo. It’s a trusty companion for sure, but that spicy aroma is quite enticing. Hit the break for some corroborating clues.

[Thanks, Tone Bone]

HTC ChaCha coming to Phones 4u in the UK, free on contract

Didn’t think the HTC ChaCha’s 2.6-inch screen and dedicated Facebook button were reasons enough to shell out £249.99 off contract? Well, UK friends, you might want to try this on for size. The lilliputian, Gingerbread-powered phone is landing on Phones 4u tomorrow, June 2nd, and will cost nothing — so long as you sign a two-year agreement. If you’d rather pay as you go, the price will skyrocket to £299.95, at which point you might want to consider buying it through Amazon and saving yourself a precious £50. Given its middle-of-the-road 800MHz processor, we can see where you wouldn’t want to pay a flagship-worthy price, though if you’ve been holding out for an Android 2.3 device and have a penchant for QWERTY keyboards and peeping other people’s vacation photos, this could be a sweet deal.

OTA Gingerbread 2.3 update now available for Droid X

Android 2.3 hit the web for Droid X owners earlier this week, but that update previously required a tethered, manual install. As of today, the update is available over the air, so cable-free purists can finally start cooking with Gingerbread on their Droid X handsets. We first saw 2.3 popping up on the device in March, but if you opted out of rooting your handset for an early look at the new OS, you can now get your feet wet with speedy navigation, a customizable dock, and an overhauled camera app.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

HTC Sensation available on T-Mobile June 15th for $200, hits Walmart ‘as early as June 12th’

The foremost question in the hive mind of Android power users these days is typically whether to go with HTC’s 1.2GHz, dual-core, 4.3-inch Sensation or the similarly specced Galaxy S II from Samsung. Of course, neither of those is actually out in the US yet, so if patience is not your favorite virtue, T-Mobile just made that decision for you. The carrier has announced it’ll start selling the HTC Sensation from June 12th at Walmart stores, after which it’ll be “exclusively” available on June 15th from T-Mobile retail stores. Pricing is your typical $200 on a two-year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate. Samsung’s superphone shouldn’t be too far behind, but it does look like T-Mo subscribers will get a good few weeks to familiarize themselves with Sense 3.0 before having to hear any gloating about Super AMOLED Plus displays and 8.49mm slimness. PR after the break.

Gingerbread update begins rolling out to Motorola Droid Pro

We’d had some indication that both the Motorola Droid 2 and Droid Pro would be getting upgraded to Gingerbread in the near future, but we can’t say we expected the Droid Pro to be the first of the pair to make the jump. As evidenced by the screenshot above, however, that’s now happened, with at least some lucky owners of the portrait QWERTY device receiving the OTA update — complete with an updated version of Blur, of course. Unfortunately, it’s not quite clear how widespread the rollout is just yet, but it seems you can rest assured that it’s not just a matter of time before it hits your device. Let us know in comments if you’ve already received it.

[Thanks, K]

Galaxy S Gingerbread update lands in the UK, better late than never (updated: it wasn’t late)

Galaxy S Gingerbread

So, Samsung missed that mid-May target date for the Galaxy S Gingerbread update… after already aborting an earlier push to Google’s latest and greatest in mid-April. But, time for some cautious optimism — it appears that Android 2.3 is finally here for Sammy’s carrier-agnostic former flagship. A reader from the UK wrote in to let us know that he fired up Kies today and voilà — firmware version 2.3.3. He was even kind enough to send us the photo above. We’re not sure when to expect this as an OTA update here in the States, but we’d venture to guess it’ll be soon.

[Thanks, Lee]

Update: Sammy actually started the Galaxy S Gingerbread update on time earlier this month, but it seems our tipster simply wasn’t among the first to get in on the Android updating action.

MSI WindPad 100A, 110W, and 120W hands-on at Computex 2011 (video)

What’s this? It looks like the MSI WindPad 100A that we discovered at CES and the WindPad 110W that we first saw at CeBit decided to make an appearance on the show floor here at Computex 2011. Only this time around they brought a new friend along to the party — namely the MSI WindPad 120W. To refresh your memory, the WindPad 100A is a 10-inch NVIDIA Tegra 2-equipped tablet running Android (Gingerbread here in Taipei, but potentially Honeycomb in the future) while the 110W uses AMD’s Brazos platform paired with Windows 7. The Windpad 120W shares the same exact 10-inch chassis as the 110W but swaps AMD’s Fusion APU for an Intel Cedar Trail-based chipset together with a tasty serving of WiDi and HSPA wireless. We still have no information about availability or pricing, but for now we invite you to check out the gallery below and hit the break for our hands-on videos.
