Sony Xperia SP WIll Not Get Official Android 4.4 KitKat UpdateFor those of you who own the Sony Xperia SP, you might want to take note that this particular smartphone of yours will have its upgrade train stop at Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, at least according to what we have garnered so far online. A Sony representative claimed that there will not be any official Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Sony Xperia SP, so for those of you who upgraded your respective smartphones to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in February earlier this year, that would be as good as it gets.

    Android 4.4 KitKat Install Base Grows To 5.3%In the past we have seen arguments made against the Android platform, claiming that it was fragmented due to OEMs pushing out updates at irregular intervals. This combined with carriers requiring approval has caused some phones to remain on older builds of Android while the same model in another country could have been updated weeks ago.

    Things are slowly starting to change and fragmentation has become less of an issue these days, and according to the latest Android numbers released by Google, it seems that Android 4.x is now installed on over 80% of Android devices to date. In terms of Android 4.4 KitKat, that number is still relatively low at 5.3% but it is still growing. (more…)
