Archos 7c tablet with Eclair, kickstand now shipping for $220

Well, isn’t today our lucky day? Just a week after debuting on video, the Archos 7c Home Tablet is shipping in the US for $220 — more than a month ahead of its expected June arrival. As a refresher, this 7-inch tablet offers a capacitive (800 x 480) display, Android 2.1 (Eclair), and a Cortex A8 processor-RK2918 chipset combo that promises smooth 720p video playback. Other specs include 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, two built-in speakers, and that kickstand you see in the photo above. Of course, you’ll also have to forgo niceties like wireless-N, cameras, and access to Android Market. Are those trade-offs worth the dirt-cheap price? That’s a decision you’re going to have to make for yourself.

Amazon beats Dell to the punch, quietly ships WiFi-only Streak 7 in the US

If you’ve been impatiently waiting for that $380 WiFi-only Dell Streak 7 you pre-ordered, you can stop your fidgeting because it looks like Amazon, at least, has quietly started to ship them out to eager US customers — the second market to get the Android tablet this week. Just to refresh your memories, it offers a dual-core 1GHz Tegra T20 processor, 16GB of storage, dual cameras, and, eventually, an upgrade to Android Honeycomb (3.0), something Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab isn’t guaranteed to get. But is that worth the Streak’s higher price and shorter endurance? We’ll let you and your wallet be the judge.

Galaxy Tab 10.1v up for pre-order at Vodafone Australia, shipping to start May 1st

Oh, sure — it’s pretty much an ultrathin Galaxy Tab 10.1, but then again, it’s an ultrathin Galaxy Tab 10.1. The newly-christened Galaxy Tab 10.1v has finally found itself a pre-order host over at Vodafone Australia, with select customers receiving the newsletter shown above in their email accounts. Purportedly, this “exclusive” offer enables Vodafone customers camped out in the Land Down Under to pre-order the Honeycomb-based slate, with a trio of payment options available. A two-year agreement will cost you zilch upfront (but AU$39 a month over 12 months), a one-year plan dings your credit card for AU$259, and an off-contract option will demand a far stiffer AU$729. A book cover seems to be included with each option, and if you get your order in today, shipping should commence on May 1st. One nation down, six five continents to go. (Sorry, penguins.)

Samsung’s super slender Galaxy Tab 10.1 snacks on some Honeycomb (video)

Honestly, we were a little bit worried that Samsung’s rail-thin Galaxy Tab 10.1 was a mockup — you know, seeing as how Sammy never turned it on — but fast-forward to today and there’s a working model in Tinhte.vn‘s capable arms. Yes, the Vietnamese site that’s been leaking delicious Apple prototypes — not to mention the HP TouchPad’s SIM slot — found the 0.33-inch thin slate at an unnamed Samsung booth, powered it up, and proceeded to dive into the sticky-sweet mess of Android 3.0 and iPad 2 comparisons that such a discovery affords. You’ll find all that and some Angry Birds in the video immediately above.

Cool your jets, buster — Cisco’s still no closer to rejoining the consumer realm. If you’ll recall, this here Android tablet was actually introduced at the front-end of the year, but it remains one for the business sect. Rivaling the PlayBook as the working man’s tablet, the Cius is now orderable through your Cisco field representative and / or authorized Cisco channel reseller. Of course, tracking him / her down on a Friday is another thing entirely, but you can expect the first shipments to go out “this month.” Excited? Jazzed? Bubbling over? You betcha.

Archos flashes 7c Android tablet, brags about its 1.2GHz clock speed

After taking a breather from cranking out new tablets, Archos is at it again, this time with the Archos 7c Home Tablet, a 7-inch number that ARMdevices.net caught on camera during a visit to the company’s Chinese outpost. This slate packs a Cortex A8 processor and RK2918 chipset, which the rep quaintly says is “faster than any chipset you can find” — you know, owing to its 1.2GHz clock speed and all. Alas, it runs Android Gingerbread (2.3) and not Honeycomb (3.0), so you’ll have to do some hacking to get your Android Market fix. Although the 7c has a capacitive display, the woman leading the demo appears to jab at browser links with her finger — a throwback to some less-than-responsive resistive screens we’ve tested. On the bright side, 1080p video plays smoothly — at least in the few seconds before the camera pans away. The 7c is headed to the US and Europe in June for an unknown price, but for now you can head past the break to see it in action.

E-Noa’s Interpad Android tablet is nowhere to be found

It’s been almost eight months since we introduced you to Interpad’s Tegra 2-packing Android tablet, and now we’re hearing rumors that the thing might never make it to market. The tablet was originally slated for a December 2010 debut, but in August the slab’s maker, E-Noa, released a statement that said the tablet was on hold until January. Well, January’s come and gone, and with a slew of Tegra 2 tablets getting ready to hit the market, it looks like the Interpad might get left behind. Aside from a lack of updates to the company’s website, its Facebook page is devoid of any information, and according to the folks over at Tablet Guys, repeated calls to E-Noa’s office have gone unanswered. Basically, the Interpad’s nowhere to be found, and with Acer’s Iconia Tab slated for an April 24th release and Motorola’s Xoom already making the rounds, the Interpad’s once impressive specs just don’t seem so special anymore.

Kyocera Katsura ‘gaming tablet’ blurs for the camera

This one’s about as mysterious as you’d expect from the image above but, according to Android Community, that black slab you see is Kyocera’s new Katsura “gaming tablet.” Not many other details at the moment, but it is apparently Android-based, and it has what appears to be a rubbery matte black back adorned with a stylized design of some sort. A bit of an oddity, to be sure, but stranger things have come out of Kyocera recently. Hit up the link below for a few more pics, and look for the tablet to make a more official appearance “soon” if Android Community’s tipster is to be believed.

HP’s Zeen tablet gets Android 2.2 Froyo update, finally (video)

If you decided to throw good judgement out the window and buy an HP Photosmart eStation just for the tablet, let us start by saying we told you so. Now that we have that squared away, it looks like there could be hope for HP’s Android-powered slate yet — reports are starting to roll in of a long awaited Android 2.2 update for the Zeen. For months, owners of the tablet have filled HP customer service forums with complaints about the promised, but never delivered update, but as you can see from the video below, Zeen owners can now download a beta version of Froyo complete with Flash-compatibility, and from what we’ve heard, it’s a huge improvement. If you must see it for yourself, check out the video after the break, but let us issue yet another warning: the audio in this video will creep you out.

Lenovo CEO: LePad’s slimmer successor should arrive in September or October

Lenovo may have just launched the much delayed LePad in China, but it’s already giddying us with a surprisingly early date for said Android tablet’s successor. At last night’s opening banquet for the 2011 Chinese IT Leadership Summit, CEO Yang Yuanqing revealed that the second-gen LePad will be slimmer (which is a given these days), and is expected to be launched in September or October — merely three or four months after le original LePad’s upcoming global launch in June. Shedding no light on specifications, Yang added that the next LePad was developed in parallel with its predecessor under a separate team, allowing it to come to fruition in just nine months. Very well, but actually making it to the market is an entirely different story, so we shall sit tight and watch — hopefully Mr. Blurrycam will deliver the goods beforehand, too.
