Wall mounts have been around since forever and a day, but let’s be honest, they’ve never had something quite like an iPad to cling on to. And now a couple of enthusiastic tablet users have gone and concocted their own homemade articulating display stands, showing how easily it can be done. Al forwards the gallery of pics below, telling us he only had to buy a standard VESA TV mount and an iPad case (costing around $40 in total), screw the two together, and boom, his son had an iPad “bed mount.” Alternatively, if you’re after a more sophisticated solution, you’ll want to see dim3m’s video after the break, showing how he put together the above speaker-enriched platform. Go ahead, there’s a banging soundtrack too.

Apple may be a despot of its own walled garden, but that doesn’t mean it’s not benevolent. The iPad’s international launch on May 28 has prompted the company to open Stores an hour early, at 8AM local time, in order to give its devotees a reprieve from hours of queuing outside. Then again, that little asterix up there points us to an ominous “while supplies last” note at the bottom, which together with current pre-orders being fulfilled at some unidentified point in June, might force the most impatient to just get to the Store even earlier. UK buyers will get an alternative option thanks to Dixons Group stocking Apple’s slate in Currys and PC World outlets, an arrangement that we keep hearing might be exclusive for the first sixty days after launch. Either way, you’ve been warned, don’t be tardy if you wanna be trendy.

P.S. The iBooks app has also made its debut outside of the US today, though at present it’s limited to just freebie titles, and the iBookstore is still described as “US only.”

Update: The latest we’re hearing is that at least some Apple Premium Resellers will also be getting stock of the iPad in the UK — worth checking out if other options sell out.

Heads up! We’ve gotten a ton of tips from our friends across the pond and down under that Apple’s now sending shipment notifications for those who pre-ordered the iPad — both the 3G and WiFi-only models, from what we’ve seen — about one week before that famed May 28 international launch date. Now, before you start thinking you need to take off work a few days earlier, don’t forget that those in the US also got notifications a week before release and still no one got an early present. In other words, just be happy knowing all systems are go and your productivity is still likely to be shot on Wednesday.

We’re still not exactly sure why so many people have complained about the Netflix iPad app‘s lack of video-out support, but rest easy folks — your cries of despair have been heard. Version 1.0.2, now live in the App Store, supports video out using the component, composite, and VGA dongles, as well as addressing some lingering bugs. To be perfectly honest, we’d much rather stream Netflix in HD using one of the many set-top options out there while hanging on to the iPad for some casual surfing on the side, but we won’t tell you how to rock it… just so long as you rock it raw.
