AllCast App Update Brings Lock Screen Controls And More

AllCast App Update Brings Lock Screen Controls And More

Chromecast is a $35 HDMI dongle made by Google. The company says that it has already sold “millions” of Chromecast units just in the U.S., so it goes without saying that this dongle has proven to be quite a hit. If you happen to own one then you might have heard about the AllCast app for Chromecast. It was first launched right after Chromecast went up for sale. It allowed users to stream local content from their devices. Google dropped the banhammer initially but when the Chromecast API was opened up, AllCast regained its crucial feature. The developer has now launched a new AllCast update which brings even more new features.

Some tweaks have been made to the user interface as well. There’s a new “now playing” screen, one that’s displayed when content is being streamed from the device to the dongle. Moreover, the app now offers basic lock screen controls, allowing users to control functions like play, pause or forward without having to unlock their device.

The AllCast app for Android is now also capable of displaying album art when its being used to stream music to a Chromecast connected TV. Other nifty changes include ability to control Chromecast volume control with phone volume buttons, better playback controls, better playlist management and a plethora of bug fixes. AllCast is offered for free, albeit its ad-supported. There’s a premium version on sale for $4.99 which removes all advertisements.

    Google Tweaks In-App Purchase Billing

Google Tweaks In App Purchase Billing

Often we hear about children racking up hundreds of dollars worth of in-app purchases, paid for by their parents with real money. Parents’ consent is usually not there in such cases. Even if they allow one in-app purchase, a 30-minute window is opened in which subsequent purchases can be made without requiring credentials or consent. Children can continue to make in-app purchases without the parents even knowing. A mother recently sued Google after her son spent $66 without her knowledge. The company has now tweaked the way it bills IAPs.

Google Play Made it Slightly Harder to Blow Money on In-App Purchases

Good news for habitual in-app spenders (or their parents): Android Police says Google’s newest Play store update lets you curb spending by opting to require a password for every in-app upgrade. It may not actually stop you, but hopefully it’ll make you stop and think. Maybe.

WhatsApps Voice Calling Functionality Screenshots LeakedAt the moment WhatsApp is pretty much used for sending instant messages, pictures, videos, and voice clips. However if there is one feature missing from WhatsApp it would be voice calling, which is what apps such as Skype, Line, Viber, and even BBM all possess.

Now last we heard it is that WhatsApp could eventually get voice calls. This was revealed during MWC 2014 by WhatsApp’s co-founder, Jan Koum, who suggested that we might be able to expect the feature to be arriving in the second quarter of 2014. (more…)

Office For iPad Reportedly Good To Go, Awaiting Launch Date

Office For iPad Reportedly Good To Go, Awaiting Launch DateBack in 2011, we caught wind of the possibility that Microsoft could be bringing their Office productivity suites onto the iPad. This is a no-brainer actually given the ubiquitous nature of the iPad, but for whatever reason, Microsoft has yet to release the app fast forward three years later.

There have been conflicting reports suggesting that Office for the iPad would only be released as a touch-friendly version for Windows was released, but then later it was suggested that the app might even see a release in the first half of 2014. Now according to a report from Reuters, it has been revealed that Office for the iPad is actually good to go, and that they’re just waiting on Microsoft’s new CEO, Satya Nadella, to decide on a launch date.
