The Olympus Stylus 1 delivers DSLR performance in a compact form factor

olympus-stylus-1Olympus has once again redefined the enthusiast compact camera market segment by bringing together a slew of features that are found across its camera range in the new Stylus 1. Specially designed to target semi-pro shooters who want optical brilliance, it comes along with DSLR operation, convenience and portability, being a one-size-fits-all package. Apart from that, the Olympus Stylus 1 will also come with an i.ZUIKO lens which incorporates the outstanding optical quality of the Olympus ZUIKO interchangeable lenses. Right at its heart lies a large 1/1.7-inch BSI CMOS sensor and TruePic VI image processor, where it will be accompanied by extra features such as a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) that can also be found on the award-winning Olympus OM-D E-M5 and Wi-Fi connectivity so that you are able to capture and sharing anywhere.

Sporting a newly developed, ultra-slim 10.7x (28–300mm) high-power i.ZUIKO lens, it will deliver constant f2.8 brightness across the zoom range, making it versatile enough to capture wide to telephoto shots while delivering pro-quality stills with beautiful, defocused backgrounds and crisp images, never mind that you are shooting even in low light conditions. The large diameter lens will also come with a powerful, built-in VCM image stabilization mechanism which virtually eliminates camera shake and blur. Not only that, its lens is also able to capture stunning macro shots even from as close as 2” away.

Whenever you are not making use of the lens, it will retract fully into the camera body, placing it behind a removable automatic lens cap, allowing the Stylus 1 to fit into a coat pocket without batting an eyelid. The Stylus 1 will also feature a Fast Touch AF system from the Olympus PEN series for near-instant, precision focusing thanks to the tiltable LCD touchscreen monitor.

Not only that, there is also Full HD video recording capability, while you will also have Art Filters thrown into the mix with bracketing option, five Art Effects and Photo Story, too. The Olympus Stylus 1 will arrive later this December for $699.99 a pop, although there is only one color to choose from – black.

nikon-dfDo you feel the itch to pick up a brand new DSLR camera, but are not quite sure just which particular model that you would like to settle on? Nikon might help make your choice with the release of their Nikon Df, which is a Nikon FX-format digital SLR camera. Just what will the Nikon Df bring the the table? We are talking about the clever combination of an intuitive, worry-free dial operation alongside superior image quality over a broad range of sensitivities. All of it will arrive in the smallest and lightest FX-format body, which would make the camera extremely portable – good news for those who are always on the move and yet cannot but help themselves from shooting plenty of photos.

There is also the presence of large metal mechanical dials that are located right at the top of the camera in order to enable direct, intuitive operation, where it offers tactile pleasure of shooting with precision mechanics so that shutterbugs are able to feel the joy of creating images which reflect their individual intent. Not only that, the Nikon Df will also provide a system which paves the way for users to focus on shooting with the security that comes from visual confirmation of ISO sensitivity, shutter speed, and exposure compensation values, not to mention the convenience of direct adjustment of settings regardless of the moment, even when the camera happens to be turned off.

The Nikon Df will rely on a similar FX-format CMOS sensor, boasting an effective pixel count of 16.2-million pixels, alongside the EXPEED 3 image-processing engine that can be found in the D4 flagship model. You will find that the Nikon Df offers stable, superior image quality under a wide range of lighting conditions. Bublcam Lets You Capture 360-Degree Images and Video with Ease

Have you ever wanted to shoot the sort of 360-degree panoramic images found in Google’s Street View? While there have been numerous attempts to create add-on lenses to capture spherical images, this upcoming gizmo looks like it could be the best solution yet.

bublcam 620x413magnify

The Bublcam is a portable device that uses four cameras to capture a true 360-degree spherical image of your world. Each camera overlaps the field of view of the other cameras, and then its companion app stitches images together to create one contiguous picture.

Still image resolution for the Bublcam is 14 megapixels, and it can also capture HD video at 720p 30fps or 1080 15fps. Another cool feature of the Bublcam is that it’s got onboard Wi-Fi, so it can stream its 360-degree video in real time. You can also store your images and video on SD card or stream via its USB connection.

If you’re interested in checking out some example 360-degree video content from the Bubl prototype, you can find some samples herehere and here. While the prototype videos are far from perfect, they’re still an impressive demo of the potential of Bubl’s technology.

Bublcam is currently raising funds for production on Kickstarter, and has already surpassed its $100,000 (CAD) goal. A pledge of at least $449 (CAD) (~$430 USD) will get you in on the 360-degree action.
