Canon Boasts 70 Million EOS Cameras Produced To Date

Canon Boasts 70 Million EOS Cameras Produced To DateWhen it comes to cameras, Canon is a name that is probably known around the world. In fact safe to say that when it comes to cameras, Canon and Nikon are probably some of the more well-known commercial brands out there, which is why it is not surprising to learn that Canon has announced that they have recently managed to hit the 70 million milestone in terms of the production of EOS interchangeable lens cameras. Yup you heard that right, from 1987 until 2014, Canon has produced 70 million EOS cameras to date. In fact it was in October 2012 that Canon managed to hit the 60 million mark, so for them to hit the 70 million mark in a little over a year is pretty impressive.

In fact Canon is pretty pleased with themselves as they have also announced that that 75% of the professional photographers covering the Super Bowl utilized the company’s DSLR and EF lenses, at least based on a survey conducted by the company. “Canon is honored that more than 75 percent* of professional photographers covering the game utilized Canon DSLR cameras and EF lenses to capture and share the memorable moments of the gridiron matchup. Canon broadcast lenses were also used extensively to deliver the game to more than 111 million television viewers.” Those are indeed pretty impressive numbers, good job Canon!

Well for those wondering when the camera will be announced, word on the street has it that Canon is expected to unveil the G1 X Mark II come 12th February which is a day earlier than CP+ is held, or it could be due to the time difference that the 12th of February in the US would be the 13th of February in Japan where the event will be held, but either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info.

Based on what we know about the camera so far, at least based on rumored specs, the G1 X Mark II is expected to share somewhat similar features to the G1 X, with the main difference being its lens. 70 Million Canon EOS-series Interchangeable-Lens Cameras And Counting

70 Million Canon EOS series Interchangeable Lens Cameras And CountingCanon as a company has arrived at yet another milestone, where this time around, they have achieved a combined production of the company’s film and digital EOS-series interchangeable-lens cameras that passed the magical 70 million mark on February 5th, which was a couple of days ago. Phew! 70 million EOS-series interchangeable lens cameras are certainly no joke at all, with production kicking off all the way back in 1987 in the form of the EOS 650 35mm SLR Camera. With the introduction of digital SLR cameras in the early 2000s, you could say that its popularity has caused production of the EOS-series cameras to increase rapidly, having passed the 60 million unit mark one and a half years ago. It must also be noted that Canon also achieved the milestone of 80 million EF lenses in August 2012.

New Entry-Level Canon DSLR Rumored To Be In The Works

New Entry Level Canon DSLR Rumored To Be In The WorksDSLR cameras range from cheap to insanely expensive, depending on the needs of the photographer and what sort of features they would like to have. Now if you’re in the market for an entry-level DSLR, Canon might have something for you. According to the folks at Canon Rumors, they got tipped off that Canon might announce a new entry-level DSLR camera in the very near future, which we can only assume is CP+ since the event will be taking place in about a month’s time. In fact the upcoming camera will be placed below the EOS 100D.

It seems that Canon might have several new cameras to announce at CP+. Last we heard Canon might be looking to announce the successor of the EOS 7D, the EOS 7D MK II. The rumors also suggested that Canon might have a new PowerShot camera in the works too called the G1 X Mark II, which is the successor to the Canon G1 X from back in 2012. Either way take it all with a grain of salt for now, but if you’re looking for new camera products, check back with us during CP+ to see if there are any official announcements to be had!

Alleged Canon G1 X Mark II Specs Leaked

Alleged Canon G1 X Mark II Specs LeakedIn 2012, Canon unveiled a new camera called the Canon G1 X. That was a little over 2 years ago which means that it’s about time that Canon show us something new! According to the rumors, that camera is rumored to be the Canon G1 X Mark II and will be the successor to the original G1 X. Canon has yet to make any announcements yet but the rumors claim that CP+ could be when the company might reveal the camera (and hopefully more). For those wondering about the specifications of the upcoming camera, like we said Canon has yet to make anything official, so here are its rumored specs which you should take with a grain of salt for now.

The design of the G1 X Mark II is said to be similar to the original G1 X but with sport a slightly longer 24-120mm f/2.8-5.8 lens. It will also pack a 20.2MP 1.5” CMOS sensor, a “real image” optical zoom viewfinder, and a 3” LCD touchscreen display. No word on pricing either but we can only assume it will not deviate too far from the G1 X’s mark. Canon’s G series of cameras have typically hovered between the casual photographer and the hobbyist, packing some pretty decent specs into a small-ish body that can be easily carried around, but with mirrorless cameras starting to make their mark, will such cameras prevail? CP+ will be held in the middle of February so if you’d like to learn more, check back with us then for the details.

Canon EOS 7D MK II Rumored For CP+ Announcement

Canon EOS 7D MK II Rumored For CP+ AnnouncementWe have been hearing rumors that Canon could be looking to launch a successor to its Canon EOS 7D camera, and while the rumors have been floating about for a couple of years, we have yet to see anything from Canon just yet, but could 2014 finally be the time that Canon takes the wraps off the device? Perhaps. Or perhaps not, but if the latest rumors are to be believed, word on the street has it that canon will be announcing the camera at the CP+ show in Japan which is taking place a little before MWC 2014 and will run from the 13th of February until the 16th of February 2014. Given that CP+ is a camera/photography related event, we expect camera companies such as Canon might take the opportunity to announce something then.

Based on what we know about the EOS 7D MK II so far is that it could sport either a 20MP or a 24MP Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor as Canon has reportedly not finalized its specs yet (at that time). It could also feature an AF system similar to that of the EOS 5D MK III with 61-points, along with a shooting speed of 10-12fps. It is also rumored to sport a weather-sealed body, a Dual DIGIC V+ processor, and GPS connectivity, all of which will be priced around $2,000. Admittedly this isn’t much to go on at the moment, but hopefully more details will emerge as we get closer to CP+ 2014, so be sure to check back with us then for the details, until then do take it with a grain of salt.

Canon PowerShot SX600 HS And ELPH 340 HS Unveiled

Canon PowerShot SX600 HS And ELPH 340 HS Unveiled[CES 2014] Looking for a camera with zoom? There are a few options that you could explore. One of them involves getting a DSLR and a huge and chunky zoom lens that will probably set you back a couple of hundred, if not a few thousand dollars. Alternatively you could opt for something a little more compact, and while compact zoom cameras might not necessarily have the same level of control and quality one might expect from a dedicated zoom lens, we guess it will do in a pinch, especially if you’re shopping on a budget, which is exactly what Canon had in mind when they unveiled two new compact cameras with optical zoom lenses: the Canon PowerShot SX600 HS and the PowerShot ELPH 340 HS.

    Canon PowerShot N100 Revealed

Canon PowerShot N100 Revealed[CES 2014] Brace yourselves, folks, for another round of digital camera releases at this year’s edition of CES. Canon has just unveiled the new Canon PowerShot N100 to deliver unique storytelling capabilities for photo enthusiasts in a tiny package. This is a new concept camera that will boast of a new body style and unique, new creative options, letting you create as well as relate your visual stories through the enablement of the photographer to become part of the image being captured. How is this possible? Why, with the introduction of a new Dual Capture mode, of course. This would let users simultaneously capture special moments using the Main Camera, and there is the Story Camera, which happens to be a rear facing sub-camera, that will shoot you as well, embedding your picture into the main image eventually.

Not only that, the Story Highlights mode will intuitive create a highlight reel of images and video so that a customized movie is created, as it depicts a story as seen through the photographer’s eyes. Forget about using complex software to assemble such footage, although you can be sure that it will be an extremely bare bones example, and any other third party software should be able to perform a far more complex job than this. Other hardware specifications include Wi-Fi capability, a 5x optical zoom, a 24mm Wide-Angle f/1.8 lens, a 12.1-Megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and Canon’s DIGIC 6 image processor. Expect the Canon PowerShot N100 to arrive this May for $349.99 a pop in white or black shades. [Press Release]
