Killing time until the iPad 2 finally becomes available across Europe later today? Well, now you can stoke the flames of anticipation by taking a gander at this here wood cover made specifically for the magnet-infused new Appletablet. It comes from a single piece of cherry wood and rolls up into a stand, providing a pair of landscape positions and a sturdy base for keeping the slate vertical should you wish to gaze upon it in portrait mode. Frankly, Apple should’ve been the one to come up with this refinement on its Smart Covers, though at least a small company like Miniot spares us the overblown rhetoric about life-changing gear purchases. Price isn’t too bad, either, with orders starting at €50 later on today.

The Tarsier case magnifies the iPhone’s high-res screen up to almost six-inches

Nulogia’s Tarsier 2.0 screen is — at first glance — a rather inelegant hack for the iPhone. But on closer inspection (pun intended) it could be a very useful accessory, especially for those with poor eyesight.

The Tarsier is descibed by its maker, Stergios Stergiou, as “yet another bumper for the iPhone 4 but with an interesting twist.” That twist is a flat lens which is held above the iPhone’s screen by four 3-D printed legs. Thus suspended, the screen is magnified to appear almost six inches on the diagonal, making it almost as large as the screen of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. Stergios calls it a “a pocketable Kindle but with a higher resolution and in color,” which strikes me as a great description.

You’re not going to want to keep this attached all the time, of course, but for extended reading it would be ideal. But keep the iPhone in the supplied bumper case and toss the lens and stand into a bag and you have a very portable — and readable — ebook setup.

The Tarsier 2.0 is available now from the Shapeways store, and will cost you a reasonable $25, or $4 less than Apple’s non-lens bumper case.

If you’d like to give your iPad the same cosseting your posterior receives when you slot into the sport buckets in your Continental GT then you, good chap, are in luck. Bentley’s “luxury leather partner” Ettinger, which ensures no surface of the vehicles is bereft of animal hide, is releasing a line of gadget cases to cover your iPad, iPhone, or BlackBerry — though it’s unclear exactly which model for the latter. Prices? You’re looking at £45 for either of the phone holsters or £89 for the iPad-sized model. That’s about $73 and $145, respectively, and a lot of cash for a little hide. If you’re still not dissuaded there’s another image of the tablet-sized version and a press release below. Those, at least, are free.
