Spotted: Curve 8900 running on AT&T

So Boy Genius Report reported on a shot of what seems to be a Curve 8900 running on AT&T — which seems like a pretty good idea, may we add — and we’re trying to make sense of what’s really going on. We hit up RIM’s booth at CES to get the lowdown on the situation, and what do you know, the mythical beast is nowhere to be found. The reps on the floor said that it’s only for T-Mobile and when we checked every 8900 on the show floor, we couldn’t find one running on any other carrier. ‘Course, we’d be shocked if RIM wasn’t chronically refreshing BGR every fifteen seconds, so it’s entirely possible that they saw the news, realized their grave error, and pulled the offending phone posthaste. Either way, it’s a great idea, is it not?

SIM2 aims high with $58,000 Grand Cinema HT5000E DLP projector

SIM2 never fails to stun, and it’s proving yet again that it couldn’t care less about the global economic situation (or that it just aims at a class of people that are simply unaffected) with the Grand Cinema HT5000E. Said device was actually outed yesterday courtesy of an HDGiants pair-up, but today we’re being gifted with the official details. The three-chip DLP beamer includes a trio of 0.95-inch DarkChip4 DMDs, a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, six lens options, Ethernet jack for remote control and world-class color uniformity / edge-to-edge focus capabilities. Yeah, it’ll cost you more than most vehicles and even some diminutive homes at $57,995, but at least the white glove delivery service is included. A true bargain, let us tell you. Full release is after the break.

OpenPeak intros Atom-powered ProFrame VoIP phone

Hey, cube dwellers — call your manager over and give him / her a look at this, because starting today, conference calling will never be the same. From what we can tell, this is the world’s first Atom-powered telephone, and also the first telephone we’ve seen in years that we would joyously park in our own living rooms. OpenPeak’s ProFrame is an all-in-one conglomerate that handles VoIP calling and offers up a 7-inch touchscreen panel and “an intuitive navigation menu for easy access to contacts, instant messaging, voicemail, calendar, call logs, memos, news, stocks, weather, and many other useful services.” Sure, this critter was totally designed with the hospitality industry in mind, but don’t tell us this couldn’t be molded into a wicked widgets portal for the home.

Palm’s Pre boxed

While wandering Palm’s lounge of poor lighting and heavy shadow, we bumped into the retail packaging for the Pre. While not likely the final design, it certainly follows Palm’s recent packaging aesthetic.

HP’s USB 2.0 Docking Station adds in DisplayLink technology

DisplayLink is most certainly swinging the big wood here at CES, with announcements spanning from Samsung monitors to Acer multimedia docks. Now, it’s hooking up with HP for the first time ever in order to introduce the USB 2.0 Docking Station with DisplayLink technology. The universal dock enables laptops to pass through audio, LAN and peripheral connectivity, and of course, it enables the laptop to expand its display onto a USB-enabled monitor without the need for graphics cards and the like. We can’t tell you when or where it’ll land, but you can have a gander at the read link for other hardware details.

Video: ASUS Eee D200 explained on video

Somehow we missed the Eee D200 when we first visited the ASUS booth. A return this morning confirms our suspicions that this strange looking device is nothing more than a NAS media server with a touch screen. Remote administration is available, as well as four USB and four Ethernet ports. Don’t miss the pictures in our gallery and the video posted after the break.

Canon unveils REALiS SX800 LCoS projector with 3,000 lumens

Canon‘s REALiS SX800 LCoS projector may not have the highest resolution in the world — it’s stuck at SXGA+ (1,400 x 1,050), for those wondering — but it sure is bright. Designed to light up board and / or living rooms with ambient light seeping in, the projector features a 3,000 lumens display and a contrast ratio of 900:1. It’s also housing next-generation 0.55-inch LCoS reflective LCD panels, a Canon 1.5x zoom, Auto Input Signal, 2:3 pull down and an 11-pound chassis. If that’s right down your alley, it’ll be available this month for $2,499.

Dell Adamo hands-on! (Update: now with video!)

Looks like our puppy-dog eyes have served us well yet again — we just got to spend some time with Dell’s ultra-hot Adamo. It’s really small, less than an inch thick, we’d say — and although we didn’t measure, we’d say that 13-inch screen rumor was spot on. “Adamo” is actually the brand, like Inspiron — this is just the first machine that’ll be out. We weren’t allowed to boot it up or do much of anything except take pictures, but it’s built really, really, well — and it’s a total smudge magnet, with a super-glossy display and a shiny black panel like the Studio XPS series on the lid. Expansion-wise, we spotted three USB ports and an eSATA jack, and the power adapter is crazy small, with a removable plug for international use. The design is somewhat reminiscent of the Envy 133 with its squared-off shape, but it’s still very unique, and while we didn’t put in any serious time on the keyboard, it felt solid enough. Here’s the problem, though — we have no idea what’s actually inside this gorgeous case, and until we do, it’s just another pretty face. Hopefully Dell comes clean on specs and pricing sometime soon — we’d love for there to be some muscle under that hood. We’re headed back to the trailer to up a video, check back!
