Samsung CA750 wireless Central Station eyes-on

We heard a brief mention of Samsung’s Central Station during its first press event, but it wasn’t until we had a chance to check it out for ourselves on the floor did we really understand how the monitor / wireless docking station worked. Turns out it’s thanks to a USB dongle that connects the laptop in question to the rest of the setup. A clever idea, for sure, but we’d definitely need to put it through the ringer before we’d suggest. The 23-inch and 27-inch models are coming in March with prices as-yet unspoken. Enjoy the pictures below!

CES 2011: The Best of Our Coverage

ces_sign_2011.jpg
Well, another CES is in the books. It was a long, fun show. Attendance was back up to pre-recession levels, according to numbers released by the Consumer Electronics Association, and there were gadgets aplenty.
We had time to check out just about every product on the showroom floor, attended press conferences and keynotes, and interview a broad spectrum of folks, including Ludacris, T-Pain, and the CTO of One Laptop Per Child.
For those who weren’t able to follow our stories all week, we’ve compiled a list of our best coverage, after the jump.

Las Vegas’s Geekiest Slots

It wouldn’t be a trip to Vegas without some gambling, right? But what do you do during CES if you’re like me and you’re not so big on the casino thing? Simple, you take a picture of the geekiest slot machines you can find and compile them into a blog post. Viva Las Vegas!

Gearlog’s Top Gadget of CES 2011

ces_logo.jpeg

It was a long week. Long but fulfilling, full of those sort of days where you fall asleep the moment your head hits the pillow. We walked the entire show floor once again this year, in search of the coolest, most cutting edge, and most life changing gadgets–and we saw plenty. We saw phones and laptops and music players and cameras–and so, so many tablets.

Honestly, it was tough to narrow the list down to a single product in such a big show so jam-packed with awesome technology. But somehow we managed.
After the jump, check out our pick for the Top Gadget of CES

All right, last one, we promise.

CES 2011: The Images Pt. 2

ces_sign_2011.jpg
As mentioned before, we’ve shot way more images at this year’s CES than we knew what to do with. In fact, we shot even more bonus images than we could in a single post. So, with that in mind, we present you part two, after the jump.

CES 2011: The Images

ces_2011_outside.jpg
We took a lot of shots at CES last week. A lot. Most of them made it into stories, and some of them (i.e. most of the AVN show). But there were still plenty of stragglers–shots that couldn’t find a home elsewhere, but still deserve to see the light of day.
After the jump, check out some of favorite pictures that just didn’t make the cut.

4G at CES 2011: AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile make big moves

Traditionally, CES isn’t a huge mobile event — the biggest phone news has historically been saved for MWC in February and CTIA in March — but that changed in a huge way this week. Looks like 2011 is shaping up to be the year of 4G, and both carriers and manufacturers alike wasted no time jumping on the hype bandwagon with a variety of announcements that promise to make the next few months exciting… and really, really fast. AT&T kicked things off early in the show, but it was just the beginning of a relentless torrent of mobile news that lasted for days and ultimately left us with a pile of devices and network upgrades that should take us at least through the middle of the year. Read on for the recap!

ThinkGeek and Atari’s iCade Retro iPad Arcade

thinkgeek-icade-gaming-console-for-ipad.jpgIf you don’t already own an iPad, you have about three months to get one before the iCade is available to retro-gaming nerds everywhere. Let’s face it, the old-school arcade games are admittedly cool looking, but they’re heavy, and extremely expensive. Thanks to the good people at ThinkGeek, you can pretend you’re living the dream.

ThinkGeek teamed up with ION and Atari to create the iCade. ION is helping in creating the arcade-style body that connects the iPad via Bluetooth. Atari will be offering a huge suite of its classic arcade games, like Asteroids.

Gearlog got some hands-on time with a prototype at CES. We learned that the buttons were far from arcade quality, but what do you expect for a product that was originally an April Fool’s Day product from ThinkGeek? The iCade is estimated to be available April 15 at ThinkGeek for $99.99. You can sign up to be e-mailed when the product is ready to purchase. Game on!
