Genius Unveils New Hi-Fi Speakers for PCs and Home Theaters

Genius SP-HF1800A SpeakersIt’s difficult to find a good pair of speakers that you can comfortably use for both day-to-day PC use as well as the high quality sound you expect when you’re watching a movie or your favorite TV shows. Usually PC speakers get the job done when you’re gaming or watching some YouTube videos, but when you settle in to watch a movie you want power behind your sound.

That’s where the new Genius SP-HF1800A speakers come in. The new model features a pair of three-way high fidelity wooden speakers that can sound out your home office or your home theater.

The SP-HF1800A includes RCA and 3.5-inch stereo inputs on the back so it fits seamlessly with your PC setup or your home theater system, or can be connected directly to your TV or game console. The front of the speakers have an additional in-line jack that can support audio from your iPod or other music player, or even your mobile phone. If your home office needs an audio upgrade, the SP-HF1800A will be available before the end of the month for $72.99 list price.

Verbatims Clip-It USB Drive is a High-Tech Paper Clip

Verbatim Clip-It USB DrivesAt first blush, the new Verbatim Store n’ Go Clip-it USB Drive is a great way to include a bit more information with something like a business card, a folder full of documents for a meeting or presentation, or a media kit at a conference (I’m betting we’ll see these at CES in January.) The more you think about it, however, doesn’t including a USB drive full of documents connected to a document kind of defeat the purpose of printing the documents in the first place?

Verbatim doesn’t think so, and suggests using the new Clip-it drives like paper clips, to keep documents together, regardless of whether those documents are electronic or paper. The Clip-it USB Drives are available in seven different colors, and in 2GB and 4GB flavors. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.

Say Goodbye to Those Shaky Videos

gorillapod.jpgIf you are tired off the shaky video from you camcorder, take a look at Joby Gorillapod Video. The Gorillapod does for the camcorder what Joby did for still cameras, providing a portable tripod that is both stylish and versatile.

The Gorillapod Video is made of anodized aluminum and has magnetic feet on its signature segmented legs. The legs can cling on any surface or wrap around someplace, say a pole, to shoot video from a distance.

The swiveling ball head goes around a full 360 degrees and tilts 135 degrees.

The Gorillapod Video is designed for mini and pocket camcorders, such as the FlipVideo and Kodak Zi8, and point-and-shoot cameras with video capabilities.

Priced at $30, the camera is available online.

MeeGo has released a netbook already, but is expected to release the Lite Tablet Edition version later this year, according to Linpus.

The Linspire-MeeGo tablet will likely support touch-based input methods and gestures. Linpus will be creating touchscreen-specific apps to run on MeeGo, such as an eReader, maps, mail, a browser, and a media player. Linpus will also include a contact manager.

Kensington KeyFolio Gives your iPad a Bluetooth Keyboard and Case

Kensington KeyFolioEven though there may be evidence that people are trading in their notebooks for iPads, that hasn’t stopped a number of new cases designed to make your iPad more like a laptop from coming to market. (All before the mythical ClamCase manages to appear, I might add.) The latest challenger is the Kensington KeyFolio Bluetooth Keyboard and Case, available to pre-order for $99.99 list.

The case itself is made of a faux-leather plastic that’s spill resistant and covers both the iPad and the keyboard when closed. When you’re ready to use your iPad, simply flip the case open so the keyboard is on the back to use the touch-screen, or rest the case on a surface like a laptop to use the keyboard. The back of the case has a flexible hinge to keep the iPad upright while you type on the keyboard. The Bluetooth keyboard has soft rubberized keys that won’t scratch your iPad’s screen when the case is closed, and comes with a 90-hour rechargeable battery.

Apple Sues HyperMac over MagSafe and iPod Connectors

CES - HyperMac - iPod BatteryHyperMac‘s line of external battery packs for iPods, iPhones, iPads, and Mac laptops were impressive when we first saw the new ones at CES in January, and the HyperMac iPad Stand made our list of most ingenious iPad accessories, but the connector that all of those devices use to connect to the Apple products they support are patented by Apple. Now, Apple is weighing in on the matter with a lawsuit against HyperMac’s parent company, Sanho.

The suit accuses Sanho of patent infringement by using the proprietary MagSafe and iPod Dock Connectors on the HyperMac external battery packs without Apple’s explicit approval, and the suit specifically names the new HyperMac products announced at CES earlier this year as infringing on Apple’s patents. Sanho, on the other hand, claims they use original Apple-made and user-recycled MagSafe connectors in their products, not re-manufactured or copied products.

It’s difficult to see whether Apple is out to recover costs or stamp out HyperMac products entirely, but Apple did say in the suit that they notified Sanho of the issue three times earlier this year before filing suit. Now we’ll either have to wait and see what the courts say or wait for Sanho to cut a check to make Apple go away.

Luke Skywalker and Han Solo Stormtrooper Mimobot Flash Drives Available for a Limited Time

mimobot stormtroopers.jpgIt was just about a month ago that Mimobot, creator of the oh-so-stylish designer flash drives, released its new Star Wars series. Fortunately, Mimobot has gifted us with a limited edition and online exclusive surprise: Luke Skywalker and Han Solo Stormtrooper flash drives.

Previously, the drives were released as “Stormtrooper Unmasked” — a blind assortment with Han and Luke’s identity hidden until opened. Which means, if you’re a sole Solo fan, you could get stuck with a darn Skywalker jump drive. But now, this limited edition of 500 drives allows you to pick your character of choice. The new item offers Luke or Han’s luscious locks, along with the customary Stormtrooper helmet. Customers now have the option of having their favorite characters masked or unmasked.

Both Luke and Han are available in a range of 2GB to 16GB of storage space and come preloaded with character-specific Star Wars MIMOBOT-themed images, wallpapers, and avatars.

The Journo Bluetooth Keyboard is as Portable as Your Phone

Journo Bluetooth KeyboardIf you’ve ever stared at your phone and thought, “this thing really needs a full keyboard,” you may need to buy a netbook. If you’ve ever stared at your iPad or Android tablet and thought “this thing needs a full keyboard,” you might be on to something. That’s why Cervantes Mobile made the Journo portable Bluetooth Keyboard, a fold-up model that includes a cradle for your mobile phone or tablet that will keep it upright and in either portrait or landscape mode while you use it.

The Journo is designed to be as portable as your mobile device, which means the keyboard folds down to be remarkably small when not in use. Aside from the portability and the included cradle, the most notable feature is that it claims to support just about any mobile device with Bluetooth, meaning iPhones, iPads, Android devices, and more. The Journo will be available for $99 list price early next year, but you can pre-order one now for $79.
