GameStop offers up silver DualShock 3 controller for North America

If that all-black DualShock 3 controller has just grown stale, and you’re not about to drop any coinage to have Colorware liven things up, GameStop has a fantastic solution — so long as you’re a fan of silver, that is. As of today, the firm’s website has a clear listing for a satin silver version of the wireless SIXAXIS, and anyone familiar with the silver PS2 controller will no doubt notice the striking similarities. Just so you know, this one’s been available in the Japanese market for eight centuries now, but it looks like the North American crowd can finally yell “me too!” when parting with $54.99 on June 24th.

XCM introduces Rumble Joystick and KO Adapter for PlayStation 3

Hot on the heels of XCM‘s Dominator joystick comes an even more irresistible iteration, making those that took the plunge in January inevitably jealous. The newfangled Rumble Joystick for PlayStation 3 isn’t terribly different from the original… save for the fact that this one shakes, rattles and rolls, of course. Described as the world’s first PS3 joystick to rumble natively, this bugger also packs four memory buttons for programming all sorts of sick, twisted macros alongside independent Rapid Fire and Turbo buttons. Moving on, we’ve got the all new XO Adapter for PS3, which adds support for macros, Rapid Fire and Turbo to any vanilla Dual Shock or SIXAXIS controller. There’s no mention of pricing for either, but we suspect that’ll change in the near future (like, real soon, given that they’ll be shipping in under a month).

Zivix's Headliner guitar lets you rock the real and virtual stageSurvey says: kids who pretend rock out in music videogames are more likely to want to learn to play those instruments for reals. For would-be strummers, that means a rather abrupt transition from cheapo plastic toy with buttons to hand-crafted wooden instrument with strings. That could change with the Zivix Headliner, a prototype guitar that also works in both the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series, featuring sensors on the neck to act like buttons and real strings that replace the plastic strum bar. It’s not the first game-friendly guitar with strings we’ve seen, nor indeed is it the company’s first stab at creating a hybrid instrument like this (they demo’ed something similar called the Hero Maker last year), but with a little more venture capital infusion Zivix hopes to have this model on sale by year’s end for under $250 — expensive for a game controller and not exactly cheap for an electric guitar. Any takers?

Nintendo’s MotionPlus due out prior to Grand Slam Tennis, or June 18th

Stay with us here, okay? For the longest while, we’ve wondered when exactly Nintendo was planning on releasing its long-since announced MotionPlus Wiimote add-on. At long last, pieces are beginning to come together. According to EA Sports’ official Grand Slam Tennis page, said title will be available for the Wii on June 18th. Hop over to a recent Nintendo Power article about said game, and you’ll find producer Thomas Singleton asserting that the MotionPlus accessory is “due out prior to Grand Slam‘s release.” So, putting one and one together, we’ve come to the conclusion that Nintendo should ship its MotionPlus add-on prior to June 18th, or at least prior to whatever day Grand Slam Tennis gets delayed to. Logical?

Video: Nyko Wand Wii remote flung wildly in Wii Bowling

While focused on little gizmos like the Palm Pre at CES, we somehow missed the opportunity to play with Nyko’s Wiimote wannabe back in January. Thankfully, the peripheral company was on hand here in Germany with its full lineup, and we dropped in for a few snapshots as well as a hilarious visual demonstration of just how suitable this thing is at replacing bona fide Wiimotes. As you’ll notice in the gallery below, Nintendo’s version is just a smidgen taller while the Nyko edition sports a covered back that’s easier to grip; outside of that, however, the two feel generally alike when held. It should be noted that the Nyko reps had outfitted the actual Wiimote with its backing in order to prevent any unwanted LCD shatterings, and hey, we can respect that. We also threw in a few shots of the Wii Wand strapped inside the now-ancient Perfect Shot gun holster — for no other reason than to say we wielded a weapon on company time, really.

Video: ASUS Eee Stick demoed at CeBIT

We already gave you a sneak peek at ASUS’ Eee Sticks yesterday, but we couldn’t resist video taping a fellow giving these a go today. The not-at-all-familiar tennis title worked about like you’d expect it to (if you’ve ever played a Wii, that is), but judging by the pent up frustration we felt from over on the sidelines, the learning curve on these is a bit steeper than advertised. Just mash play to live vicariously through this dude.

ASUS shows off Eee Stick at CeBIT

Just in case you missed the ASUS barrage from earlier this morning, we’ll bring you back up to speed while also showing off another fun gizmo the company drug to Hannover. The motion sensing Eee Sticks were on hand at CeBIT, and in varying colors to boot. We were too bashful to get a video of ourselves playing in the demo rig the company had set up, but we’re making it our mission to coerce other attendees to have a go and let us film them tomorrow. ‘Til then, have a look at the stationary Sticks below.

DualShock Vortex concept controller brings the neGcon out of the nineties

In the halcyon days before dual analog sticks, when gamers had only D-pads and buttons and that’s the way we liked it, serious PlayStation drifters had one weapon of choice for ‘Ridge Racer’ battles: the neGcon from Namco. It and its twisting mechanism never really caught on, but it hasn’t been entirely forgotten, reborn through the DualShock Vortex pictured above, a controller extending the same concept to the PS3, offering the 45 degrees of twist you’ll want for Gran Turismo 5 (if it ever ships) plus the analog sticks you’ll need for Killzone 2. Alas, it’s just a rendered concept from Israeli designer Tamar Fleisher at this point, and is rather unlikely to show up at a game retailer near you, but maybe if enough of you e-mail the kind folks at the now Namco Bandai they’ll think about making it a reality.
