Dell cutting workforce with voluntary employee buyout

Dell has aimed to cut its workforce by offering what it is politely calling a “voluntary separation program,” which is a gentle way to say they’re looking for employees to voluntarily jump the ship. The offer is coming in conjunction with a buyout package, of which the incentives have not been detailed, though the Wall […]

Apple Beats Out Dell For Most Sought After Desktop Computer For The Holiday Season

Apple Beats Out Dell For Most Sought After Desktop Computer For The Holiday SeasonSo what do you want to see under your Christmas tree this holiday season? We had heard reports of how Apple’s iPad Air managed to lead tablet sales during the holiday weekend, but it seems that iPad Airs aren’t the only Apple product that are highly desired for the holidays. According to a new survey conducted by market research firm, Parks Associates, it has been found that Apple’s desktop computers, like the iMacs, have managed to become the most sought after desktop computers for this particular holiday season. What’s even more spectacular is that Apple has for the first time managed to beat out the competition, such as Dell, HP, and Acer, with the former typically holiday the number one spot.

According to John Barrett, director, Consumer Analytic, “Apple topped the list of intended brands for desktop purchases for the first time this year […] In 2011 and 2012, Dell was the top desktop brand, but Apple has displaced it, making Apple now the most popular brand across even more key CE categories.” Other Apple products, such as the Apple TV, managed to nab the number one spot for the most sought after streaming media device, topping the likes of the Roku TV. It was not mentioned as to why Apple is suddenly seeing such popularity, but what do you guys think? Why does Apple seem to do extra well for itself during the holiday season compared to other brands?

Dell UltraSharp UP2414Q 24″ monitor ready to rock and roll

dell-up2414qWant to work with an extremely sharp monitor all the day long? After all, if you are going to sit in front of a computer for hours on end, you might as well give your eyes the very best. Having a good pair of glasses (if you wear one), and taking precautions such as focusing your eyes on things that are far away from time to time would also help. Of course, using a fantastic monitor would also go some way in making sure that your eyes do not get too tired quickly. Dell has revealed a new 24” monitor that will boast of 4K Ultra HD resolution, delivering a whopping 3840 x 2160 pixels – that would make it four times the resolution of Full HD, which is quite an act to follow up on.

This totally new Dell Ultra HD monitor has already been listed online on Dell’s official page, which would most probably signal that it is due to arrive not too long down the road. Known as the Dell 4K Ultra HD monitor, or the Dell UP2414Q if you like, some of the other hardware specifications are bound to impress you – including a 16:9 aspect ratio, 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz (DP1.2*) 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz HDMI with a contrast ratio of 1000: 1 (typical)/2 Million:1 (Max) (Dynamic Contrast Ratio) and a brightness of 350 cd/m2 and 185 PPI.

Dell claims that regardless of whether you are using it for video editing, CGI animation or application and game development, the Dell UP2414Q UltraSharp 24” monitor will be able to deliver an up-close-and-personal view without breaking out in sweat. Your eyes will be treated to a clear and consistent view with an ultrawide 178°/178° viewing angle. Of course, pricing and availability details remain to be confirmed, but we are pretty sure that more information will be revealed in due time – and hopefully before the calendar makes the leap into 2014.

Dell Has A 24″ UHD Display Revealed On Website

Dell Has A 24 UHD Display Revealed On WebsiteAt this time, Full HD 1080p resolutions are still considered to be the standard, meaning that monitors typically support resolutions of 1920×1080, but with 4K UHD displays starting to enter the market, we wouldn’t be surprised if further down the road it becomes the new standard. While most of us don’t have use for 4K right now, there are some out there who do and it looks like Dell might have a 24” 4K monitor that they are planning on announcing soon. This is according to Dell’s website where a recent listing for a 24” 4K 3840×2160 monitor was sighted.

Unfortunately there is no word on when this particular model will see a release, or how much it will cost, but presumably it will be announced soon thanks to its listing. 4K displays at the moment do not come cheap so we don’t expect Dell’s offering to be cheap either. According to the listing, we are looking at features such as 8ms response time (probably not ideal for hardcore gamers), 185 pixels per inch, antiglare coating, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, brightness of 350cd/m2, and a 178-degree viewing angle (both horizontal and vertical).
