Panasonic officially launches exclusive Avatar Blu-ray 3D pack-in, discs hit $400+ on eBay

Panasonic has finally made official several pack-in deals already in effect at retailers both physical and online that add Blu-ray 3D players, glasses and most notably, an exclusive copy of Avatar on Blu-ray 3D (also available to existing owners via a mail-in offer, owners of the Extended Collectors Edition can preview a 3D Easter Egg there too.) Despite being the highest grossing 3D movie of all, it’s still not available at retail and is unlikely to show up there anytime soon, sending the price of those pack-in copies skyrocketing on eBay as owners of non-Panasonic 3D capable TVs try to get their hands on the ultimate demo material. Many current auctions are above the $200 mark, while the highest sold price we saw was $399 about a week ago, although considering a copy of Bee Movie went for $400 back in the day, we can’t say we’re too surprised. Check out the details about Panasonic’s current promotions on its highly rated HDTVs (and the demo tour that just started) in the press release after the break and bring your calculator, if Dances With Smurfs wasn’t your cup of tea anyway, we might have found the perfect way to finance your new home theater upgrade.

Have You Gotten Your “Magical PS2″ Yet on eBay?

This article was written on July 18, 2007 by CyberNet.

Money on treeUsually you hear of the eBay auctions gone awry when the buyer receives something that they didn’t expect like an empty box, or the item in terrible condition.  I think this is one of the only times where I’ve heard of someone being satisfied with what came in the box, even though it wasn’t exactly what they purchased.

A 16–year old from Britain purchased a Playstation 2 on eBay for £95. The box arrived at the boys house and upon opening it, he found the game console as expected, but along with it was a whole heap of cash, £44,000 to be exact (about $90,000). Of course the boys parents didn’t just let him keep the money, instead they called the police who are now holding the money.

For now the boy has to wait until at least September to see if the money is ever claimed. If by chance no one steps up to claim the money, BBC News reports that the boy would be able to apply to have it returned to them.

Should he get the money, I guess now he has enough for a Playstation 3. And hopefully, he left the seller positive feedback! :)

AT&T-branded BlackBerry Bold 9780 spotted by way of eBay

T-Mobile’s got an American lock on the Bold 9780 at the moment, but you know how it goes with BlackBerrys: they tend to go pretty much everywhere (Storm and Torch notably excepted) if you give ’em enough time. Sure enough, an AT&T-branded version just popped up… and if you’ve got $899 lying around and an undying love for unreleased RIM gear, it can be yours. The phone’s chilling on eBay right now with a prominent AT&T logo silkscreened at the bottom; obviously, it stands to reason these guys would want to replace their Bold 9700 before too long, so we’re not surprised to see it go down like this. Want a white version, though? Well, you’ll just have to wait for that.

Gibson sues WowWee, retailers over Paper Jamz toy guitars; would rather some other company get all that free advertising (video)

It looks like WowWee is learning the implications of that old saw, “imitation is the surest way to get your company sued.” That’s right, the company’s radical looking, fun for about twenty minutes, paper-thin plastic toy guitars have recently drawn legal fire from Gibson, who recognizes a distinct resemblance between some classic axes (like the Flying V and the Les Paul) and the aforementioned Paper Jamz line. Which we could certainly see — even if WowWee hadn’t name dropped Gibson in its product literature (which seems to us to be rather on par with taunting the company outright). And if that weren’t bad enough, the company is going after retailers, such as Toys ‘R Us and eBay, who it claimed kept selling the things after receiving a cease and desist letter. Of course, this raises a few questions: At which point is a design so ubiquitous that it becomes fair game for companies like WowWee? And wouldn’t Gibson want the kiddies (who will be ready to move up to real guitars soon enough) hooked on their brand? And most importantly — when are we getting a Paper Jamz Rickenbacker? Because there has to be an easier way to be like Paul Weller. Commercial after the break (it adds nothing to the post, but it’s kind of a laugh).

Whitman, Fiorina Lose

carly_fiorina.jpg

The two former tech executives vying to help run California both failed to capture their respective seats in last night’s midterm elections.

Former eBay head Meg Whitman failed to beat our former California governor Jerry Brown in his run for his old job. Whitman conceded last night at 11:45PM, bringing an end to her pricey $140 million campaign.

“We’ve come up a little short, but I could not be prouder of the race we ran,” Whitman told a crowd of her supporters, adding that it’s “time for Californians to unite behind the common cause of turning around the state we love.”

Fellow Republican and former eBay chief Carly Fiorina, meanwhile, failed to capture the seat of Senate veteran Barbara Boxer. Fiorina was less eager to concede her race than Whitman.

After Boxer delivered a victory speech, Fiorina told her supporters, “We might not know for many, many more hours,” adding that the night’s Republican victories were, “a fantastic sweep across the nation.”

eBay Instant Sale: Recycle Old Gadgets, Get Some Cash

eBay Instant Sale.jpg

If you’re a gadget lover–and chances are if you’re reading this blog you are–then it’s likely you have a drawer or closet full of old and unused bits of technology. Cell phones, computers, game consoles, that sort of thing. Now eBay is making it easier to get rid of all of this unwanted technology with its Instant Sale program.

Users simply need to answer a few questions about the product, namely what it is and what sort of condition it’s in, and then they’ll be given a cash offer and a free shipping label. Once the item has been shipped and verified, the money will be transferred to your PayPal account. And even if the item has no value, you can still ship the item for free so that it can be recycled properly.

Recycle old gadgets (and make a buck or two) with eBay Instant Sale

You might already hawk your valuable old gadgets on eBay, but the auction house wants to broker your smaller transactions too — that’s why it launched eBay Instant Sale this last week. If you’ve got a (moderately recent) gizmo you want to get rid of right away, it looks as easy as can be — answer the two questions above and get an instant offer, plus a free shipping label to mail it out. From the looks of a few sample queries, you won’t get much for older items like the Dell Inspiron 8200 above, but we found a used Palm Pixi in good condition was worth a respectable $57, and even if your old featurephones aren’t worth a cent, eBay’s partners will recycle them for you and pay your shipping fees. Sure, you could donate the lot and write them off your taxes, but this sounds like it might be a worthy alternative to us.
