3D Imaging Machine Creates Product Animations

Photosimile 5000.JPG

Ortery Technologies has launched its Photosimile 5000, a self-contained, light-box-style photo studio with which businesses or individuals can easily create 3D animations and still images. This product, which was shown at CES 2010, is now available for sale.

The Photosimile 5000 consists of a 28- by 28- by 28-inch box in which one can place an object and have it photographed, using an included Canon DSLR camera positioned on a track, in 2D or as a 3D animation in spherical, hemispherical, and 360-degree formats. The object being shot is set on a turntable, which can be rotated. For illumination, the light box uses 6500K (daylight-simulating) light bulbs.

Xbox 360 laptop brings retro looks to an eBay near you

If you thought only a semi-deity like Ben Heck could splice consoles into laptop-shaped cases, here’s some evidence to the contrary. This week, CollinE from Ben’s forums put the finishing touches to his own, rather professional looking, Xbox 360 laptop. Adorned in a red and black color scheme that features a throwback giant X on the top lid, his 360 stays true to the original console in almost all respects — including the “wind tunnel” noise generated by Collin’s five fans. The fact he also consulted our guide on how to do this is just a cherry on the top for us, and you can find a video tour of the hardware after the break. Should it take your fancy, the machine’s now on auction with all proceeds going to the “make Collin’s Christmas merrier” foundation.

Sign up for the Firefox Companion for eBay

This article was written on April 16, 2007 by CyberNet.

Firefox_ebay

If you use eBay and Firefox frequently, you have an opportunity to get in on “Firefox Companion for eBay,” a new alpha test program.

Recently, eBay has made an effort to make advancements and improvements with their service while Firefox has been putting major effort into securing as much of the market as possible. They’re teaming up to offer both eBay and Firefox users the best of both worlds.

Back in March when the alpha version of Adobe Apollo was released, it was stated that eBay was working to take advantage of Apollo to bring in a better experience for their users, and a demo showed just what eBay was working on. It was nice to see that eBay was taking advantage of new technology that could make their user’s experience that much better.

Firefox’s efforts have focused on teaming up with major companies.  Most recently, Firefox teamed up with Kodak to offer an image-sharing feature where users can drag and drop image files from their hard drives to the Firefox window, and then they can be published on Kodak’s gallery site.

The latest team-up between Firefox and eBay will be used to “help build a faster, safer auction experience,” and will help Firefox users manage auctions right from their browser.

Mozilla is definitely smart for joining with major companies to help promote Firefox. Both eBay and Kodak will end up promoting Firefox because it works well with their services. Non-Firefox users in turn will be enticed to try out Firefox to see how their favorite services work with it.

We’ve contacted Mozilla to get in on their reviewer’s program, and once we do we’ll give you an update on how this add-on/extension works.

N64Mini makes claim to 'world's smallest' portable N64, is still rather husky (video)

The N64 has been dead for two Nintendo console iterations now, but the dream for the portable version the company never created still lives on. We’ve seen plenty of homemade creations, but the latest from modder Zenloc claims to be the world’s smallest at 120 x 200 x 50mm. As it turns out it isn’t, the Retro 64 mod from earlier this summer is slightly smaller, but you’d need particularly large pantaloons to mistake either as pocket-sized. Sadly this one has ditched its D-pad in the quest to shave off a few inches, but we think it otherwise looks quite nice, and the modder hopes you will too, as he’s put the thing on eBay — humorously listed as “refurbished.”

Leaked Intel Core i9 chip makes its way to eBay?

Would you pay $1,200 for an as-of-yet unreleased Intel Core i9 chip? Hard to say if the transaction actually occurred, but an auction recently ended from a Taiwanese eBay user who claims to be selling a six-core, 2.4GHz Xeon Westmere Gulftown processor. We can’t vouch for the validity of the listing, but those are some pretty convincing pictures being tossed around — ones that aren’t blurred, which might give Intel an advantage in snooping out the leak. That’s not all, though — Nordic Hardware (via Tom’s Hardware) also reports that the OCTeamDenmark forums had it listed for on sale for $850. The 32nm fella had some promising benchmarks released recently, although its release isn’t slated until at best sometime early 2010. Sure, it’s great to be first, but with early adopter prices like that, we don’t mind waiting until it goes official.

Toshiba Natural Selection laptops get celebrity paintjobs, good causes

Alright, we’re not too happy with the Natural Selection moniker implying that being a celebrity is somehow a marker of evolutionary prowess, but we’ll forgive Toshiba this one time. The Japanese company has recruited a quartet of famous folks to help promote its wares with limited edition laptops painted to their specifications. Aerosmith guitar legend Joe Perry, the no less mythical Rainn Wilson, Pittsburgh Steeler Hines Ward and his coach Mike… oh wait, that’s Omar Epps, have put their own personal stamps on a selection of Toshiba’s latest 505 laptop models from the A, P, M, and Qosmio X series. These will be auctioned off on eBay starting this Friday, with all proceeds going to charity. Any more questions before you start the bidding? No? Good.

Purported Motorola Droid prototype turns up on eBay

Wishing you could get a Motorola Droid and stand out from all your Android-toting friends at the same time? Then you might just want to consider bidding on this “limited edition” Droid prototype that just turned up on eBay, which has a reasonably good chance of being an actual Droid, and a slight chance of being an actual prototype. If the seller is to be believed, however, this particular Droid is one of only five produced, and is different from the standard issue Droid in a few respects — including a chrome bezel instead of a black one, silver buttons instead of gold, and some “enhanced LED lighting” on the front buttons. It also apparently works just fine, and is ready to be activated. Willing to take the chance? Bidding starts at $485.

[Thanks, Kaptix]

Atomic Zune HD explodes all over Ebay

Hey, remember that totally wild, awesome looking “Atomic” Zune HD we spied evidence of in the source files a week or so ago? Well, we later saw an image or two of it, but now one’s shown up in the flesh on ebay — and for a starting bid of a mere 265 bones you might be able to snag it! This one’s a 32GB model, and while we still don’t know if it’s going to be officially released or not, we get the feeling that it probably will. Regardless, we’d advise starting a bidding war anyway. Oh, and we’re totally winning this one so hands off.

Hurry! Universal Invention of the Future just $10.50 on eBay

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure — that’s the bromide behind eBay. And sometimes if you look hard enough you can find a device that changes everything. An invention so magnificent, so unknowable, that its discovery alone could “make you feel good all over the world” without even making a bid. The prototype pictured above has universal purpose: it can inflate helium balloons when it detects hot lava, find gold floating in the sea, or let you know when a horse wakes up with the Swine Flu. Really, the choices here are limitless. And for just $10.51, the “Universal Invention of the future” is yours — hurry, just 8 hours left. Check the video treasure after the break, you can thank us later.

OLPC gets microwaved, molded into stunning piece of art

We’ve seen quite a few a) laptops and b) masterpieces in our day, but it’s hard to recall the last time that we saw both in the same instance. Have a look at the object above, which is undoubtedly one of the most amazing pieces of laptop art this planet has ever had the pleasure of seeing. Kenny Irwin, known for his post-microwave creations, decided to zap one of the low-cost PCs and then mold it into the OLPCSlug while things were still gooey, all in the name of good publicity and charity. You see, the buyer of this lovely piece will see 80 percent of the proceeds head straight to OLPC, and given that it will also “help keep you safe from forest beasts of unimaginable size,” those currently situated in backwoods retreats have an extra reason to plunk down. The only problem? That $26,001 asking price. A can’t-miss demo video is after the break.

[Thanks, Robert]
