ASUS Eee PC 1201N debuts early at Newegg

OK, kids, here you have it: the Asus Eee PC 1201N has arrived a little earlier than expected. At least we think that’s what Newegg is trying to tell us. If you hop on over to the site RIGHT THIS MINUTE you can see that the thing is available for ordering, in black, with a limit of one per customer. It’s better than waiting until sometime next month, eh? There’s no telling if this is a snafu on the e-tailer’s part — everyone else in the western world has it available for pre-order, with a ship date of January 15 — but if you feel like taking a gamble there is only one thing left to do: hit the source link.

ASUS Eee PC 1201N dons burgundy garb, you still can’t have one

Say hello to the little friend you already know and want, this time dressed in a more extrovert red attire. We don’t yet know whether this 1201N variant will be finding retail shelves or if it’s just a pretty prototype, but that doesn’t make too much difference at this point. With the classical black model still only available on a pre-order basis (with a mid-January landing date) the closest you’ll be getting to ASUS’ Ion-powered 12-incher is glamor shots like these. Well, either that or a forthcoming Engadget review, both are good. See one more snap of the burgundy bruiser after the break.

ASUS Eee PC 1201N Ion-based Seashell ready for $500 Amazon pre-order

It’s a bit later than the mid-December target heard previously, but ASUS’ 12-inch Ion-packing Eee PC 1201N is up for pre-order with an anticipated January 15 release. A penny short of $500 takes home a dual-core N330 processor clocking 1.6GHz on the Atomic clock, 2GB of DDR2 memory with room to expand to 8GB, a 250GB 5,400 RPM hard disk, Bluetooth, 802.11n WiFi, webcam, and fancy new 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium OS — none of that Starter Edition netbook nonsense. Here’s the rub: are you really going to pull the trigger for a legacy Diamondville-class Atom lappie now knowing that the big CES event in January will likely be flooded with Intel’s latest Pineview-class machines sporting new N450 Atom processors, of which, at least a few will offer HD video acceleration? Pre-order now if you want but we’d wait until January 11th to see what might get announced.

Update: We’ve been in touch with ASUS’ UK team and can confirm that Blighty will be getting its chance at Ion-infused nirvana at a similar time, “mid-January” they say, and at the slightly higher price of £399 ($663).

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 2 spotted with removable battery, pretty in pink styling

We’ve seen ASUS playing with various textures on its Seashell line before, but we haven’t seen anything quite this… dramatic from the company before. It’s the Eee PC 1008P, the Seashell 2 not due to be unveiled until CES, but these images captured by HardwareZone give us plenty of info to tide us over. Inside that charmingly garish exterior (designed by Karim Rashid) is Intel’s Pine Trail architecture with an N450 processor, the standard 1GB of RAM, and 160GB of storage. There’s now room for a removable battery, hidden behind a cover and sliding out the side, the VGA port is provided by what looks to be a mini-USB adapter nestled in the bottom, and all the other ports are tucked away behind little doors that look prone to snapping off given the slightest provocation. That’s all we know for now, but we should be bringing you much, much more info about this one in about a month’s time.

ASUS shows off Congo-based Eee PC 1201T netbook

ASUS’ Eee PC 1201HA just went on sale here in the States earlier today, but already it seems that the debatable father of netbooks is looking to one-up its own with the 1201T. Shown off recently at an event overseas, this 12.1-inch netbook gets powered by AMD’s Congo platform. The 1.6GHz MV40 CPU was at the helm, followed along by 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, 6-cell battery and an enclosure that looks pretty much like every other Eee PC announced within the past six months. Mum’s the word on price and availability, but we’re guessing both of those will clear themselves up in short order.

Update: The Eee PC 1201T doesn’t have the ION chipset. Those responsible have been responsibly sacked.

ASUS Eee PC 1201HA now on sale in the US

A little later than mid-November, sure, but ASUS has finally unleashed to the US masses its 12.1-inch Eee PC 1201HA. Available at Best Buy for a penny under $330, it’s got all the standard affairs: 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520, 1GB RAM upgradeable to 2GB, 160GB HDD, WiFi, and a touted 6 hour, 38 minute battery life. The catch here is Windows XP — sorry 7 lovers, but if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, there’s always Chrome OS.

Eee PC 1005HR unboxed complete with 1366 x 768 display

It’s taken ASUS a while, but there’s finally an Eee PC with more than 600 pixels of vertical resolution — the new Eee PC 1005HR sports a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 display, which is good enough for 720p HD. Of course, it’s debatable whether or not the 1.6GHz Atom N280 and integrated GMA 950 graphics can actually make decent use of that much screen, but at least you’ll be able to rock some huge spreadsheets. Or at least you’d be able to if you were in Japan, where this unit was found — there’s sadly no word on availability or pricing Stateside. Check a video after the break.

It was late-August when we first got word of a new addition to the Eee PC lineup, the 12-inch, Ion-smuggling Eee PC 1201N. ASUS has just now confirmed the thing and a few sites have rather coincidentally posted hands-on impressions of it — but let’s go over those specs one more time before we dive into that, shall we? It has a 12.1-inch, 1366 x 768 LED-backlit display (that’s sadly glossy), a dual-core Atom 330 processor at 1.6GHz, 2 or 3GB of DDR2 memory, either a 250 or 320GB HDD, a six-cell battery, and Windows 7 Premium. All that for just $499 which, to us, sounds like a stupendously good deal. So, those impressions? They seem intentionally brief, as if nobody’s quite allowed to give real opinions, but a short video below from Laptop shows off the sleek, Seashell-style design from all angles. Surely more thorough coverage will be online before the latest netbook hits retail sometime in mid-December.

ASUS delivers Eee PC T91MT to Amazon.com, completes world tour

It was only two weeks ago when the ASUS T91MT — the first-ever Windows 7 convertible netbook — dropped by Amazon’s German site, and now the Eastern wind from Taiwan has finally reached US soil. Amazon.com buyers are offered pretty much the same configuration as their European counterpart: Intel Atom Z520, 8.9-inch multitouch swivel screen, 1GB RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium. While there’s only one color option available for now, those who’re cool with white will be spoiled with a 32GB SSD — twice as much as the German version yet $200 cheaper. Any students out there going to pick one of these up for some improved note-taking before Christmas exams?

New Eee PC Seashells sport Windows 7 Starter, less battery life

Ah, Windows 7 Starter — you’re adding to the retail cost of netbooks, and for what? Lack of support for multiple monitors, DVD playback, or remote media streaming? Lack of Windows Media Center? Granted, these things aren’t at the top of your list if you’re rocking a netbook (and DVD playback won’t be on your list at all) but we have principles, y’know? And that leads us to the next batch of Eee PCs that will fly the flag of the aforementioned OS. Both machines sport your standard Atom N280, 1GB memory, IEEE802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, and customary 10.1-inch display. Of the two, the 1005HR-WS sports WXGA, a 250GB HDD, and will run you ¥49,800 (about $546). The 1005HE-WS, however, is WSVGA and comes in two capacities: 250GB HDD for ¥46,800 ($513) or 160GB HDD for ¥44,800 (about $490). In addition to that jive Starter edition of Windows, battery life for these guys has decreased to about 8.4 hours. Available in Japan come mid-November.
