Japan’s NTT DoCoMo announces Samsung Nexus Prime ahead of Ice Cream Sandwich event

We’re still a few hours away from Samsung and Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich event, but Japan’s NTT DoCoMo has already jumped the gun on one of Sammy’s most anticipated announcements — the Nexus Prime. Today, the provider confirmed that it’ll be “among the fastest” to bring the new handset to market, adding that the Nexus Prime will be on sale in November. Unfortunately, the company didn’t get any more specific with regard to release dates, price or specs, but we’ll be sure to bring you the latest as soon as we get it. And, as always, you can follow the event in real-time, on our liveblog.

Apple wants to ‘talk iPhone’ on October 4th

Nintendo 3DS to add 3D video capture, upgraded eShop and more

Satoru Iwata came on stage at Nintendo’s pre-Tokyo Game Show shindig and announced the 3DS will be getting a few upgrades soon. No word on any hardware changes — yet — but owners can expect 3D video capture as well as upgrades to the Street Pass Mii Plaza and eShop. The press conference is still ongoing, so check back for more details as they’re announced or watch the live video stream (in Japanese) embedded after the break.

Update: And it’s all over! Nothing else new to speak of on the hardware front, and we didn’t catch any more news about those software changes either. We’re just getting our TGS team on the ground in Japan now, so expect more news in the days to come.

Nintendo launching ‘Misty Pink’ 3DS handheld on October 20th

You heard right — The Big N’s own Satoru Iwata just announced that a “Misty Pink” Nintendo 3DS console would be shipping (at least in Japan) on October 20th. Funnily enough, that was just after showing a chart proving that right around half of all DS gamers are ladies. (But Iwata — what if the dudes dig pink, too?) At any rate, no specific price was mentioned, giving us some level of certainty that no premium will be attached.

Well, we know where we’ll be on September 20th — hanging out with HTC in our classiest threads. The handset manufacturer sent out an invite for an upcoming event in NYC. So, what’s on the agenda? The Bliss? The Holiday? The Vigor? The Amaze? Some kind of wind machine for blowing red curtains around? Your guess is as good as ours, but feel free to mark your own calendar — we’ll be bringing you the blow-by-blow as it happens.

Sprint Strategy Update coming on October 7th, significant 4G plans likely to be unveiled

Sprint’s Dan Hesse told us point-blank back in July that he was penning a “great story around 4G” for this fall, and it looks as if October 7th will be the date that it “all becomes clear.” We just received an invitation to quite the atypical event — a “strategy update” for the press to cover in New York City. All we’re told is that presentations by senior management will be on tap, with a sure-to-be-lively Q&A session to follow. ‘Course, this may all be a ploy to waste our precious time on a precious Friday in autumn, but something tells us Sprint ain’t exactly in a position to be blowing cash on a Hot Air session. So, what’s on deck? Let’s count the possibilities: more details on its side regarding the iPhone 5? A full-on acquisition of Clearwire (plus a shift to LTE-Advanced)? More details on that elusive LightSquared arrangement? A merger with AT&T&T to create the largest telecommunications provider this side of Pluto? We’ll be there to find out, but for now, hypotheses are being accepted in comments below.

Ticketmaster’s interactive seat map brings Facebook stalking to concert venues

You desperately want to attend Katy Perry’s raucous San Antonio concert, but your kid sister has absolutely zero interest in tagging along, and the mere thought of going stag strikes fear into your heart. All seems lost, but worry not — because Ticketmaster and Facebook have just joined forces to create a new feature that weds concert-going with social networking. As of today, users purchasing tickets to select events can easily find out whether any of their Facebook friends are also attending and where they’re seated. All you have to do is connect to Ticketmaster with your Facebook account, find your concert of choice and use the interactive venue map to tag your own seats, or to see those of online friends who’ve already tagged themselves. From there, you can buy tickets right next to your intended targets and act totally surprised when you bump into them at the show. For now, the feature is only available for 300 venues (encompassing some 9,000 events), but you can find more information in the video and press release after the break.
