Last time we checked in on this problem, HTC had said that the EVO 4G’s 30fps cap on video output simply couldn’t be increased — but it seems the latest firmware update might prove otherwise. We’ve got a couple screen shots showing details of the latest upgrades for both the EVO and the Hero; in the latter case, you’ve just got a couple bug fixes, but the EVO’s list includes a total of four: the nasty calendar issue, the 30fps fix, a reboot problem involving GPS, and multiple Gmail sync that was busted in the Froyo update. Interestingly, Sprint’s official changelog only mentions the calendar and Gmail sync fixes, so it’s possible they’re trying to keep the other two low-key to prevent undue questions and curiosity from folks as they upgrade. What’s everyone seeing out there?

A quick glance of forums about the interwebs suggests that the EVO 4G has another potential defect that seems to be affecting a notable (though probably still very, very small) number of devices: problems with the micro-USB port, an issue that bit Nokia not long ago on the N900. The main symptom here seems to be that the phone will no longer charge or charges intermittently — and considering that your phone amounts to little more than a paperweight if it’s not properly juiced, we’d say it’s a big issue for affected folks. People returning their devices to Sprint have apparently have mixed luck getting reps to agree that the phone should be replaced, but for what it’s worth, we’ve just heard back from an HTC spokesperson who — in addition to emphasizing that the number of affected units seems to be small — says that the problem will be covered under the one-year warranty as long as “it is determined that the issue was not caused by customer misuse.” Anyone out there seeing this?

Sure, XDADevelopers has had an unofficial fix for a few days, but we understand your hesitation — installing custom firmware is how you got burned in the first place. Thankfully for you, HTC is now beaming the official EVO 4G patch over the airwaves, which updates your tainted 3.26.561.3 dairy dessert to a more toothsome 3.26.561.6. Just scoot on over to Settings > System Updates and invoke the download — assuming Sprint is being nice in your area — or wait it out and your handset might even update itself.

We know our readers: obsessive early adopters who’ll stop at nothing to have the latest and greatest software on their handsets. Just like us. Unfortunately, sometimes we get burned in the process. But the community is nothing if not tenacious. Now we’ve got an apparent “fix” for anyone who updated their EVO 4G to the Android 2.2 Froyo build discovered on HTC’s servers, only to find out that they were running a non-final build. User Pojoman over at XDADevelopers just upped the .3 to final .6 RUU from Sprint that should correct any woes. Based on the enthusiastic feedback we’re reading we’d say that this is good news. Nevertheless, the usual disclaimers apply before hitting the source link below, especially with HTC already acknowledging that a fix is on the way via official channels. Yeah, we know, blah blah blah.

We’ve just gotten a deluge of tips that EVO 4Gs are starting to get blessed with the official update to Froyo — a few hours prior to the promised August 3 rollout — so if you’ve got one handy, you’re going to want to start checking it right this second. Seriously, now that it’s got a trick flashlight app included in ROM, what could you possibly be waiting for? On a related note, if you happened to apply that early update that HTC posted and pulled late last week, the company’s working on a fix so that you aren’t out of the over-the-air update loop and promises to “get back” in “the coming days.”
