Canon Powershot N Facebook-Ready Digital Camera Announced

Canon Powershot N Facebook Ready Digital Camera AnnouncedNot all digital cameras are created equal, even those that are part of the compact digital camera market. In fact, Canon might be treading on new ground from the company’s perspective this time around with the introduction of the Canon Powershot N, which so happens to be a Facebook-ready digital camera, allowing you to share your freshly snapped images and video over your Facebook account without missing a beat – thanks to its built-in Wi-Fi connectivity that is accompanied by a dedicated Facebook connect button, of course. The Canon Powershot N is a Canon Direct exclusive, and it is also armed with a Creative Shot mode which will automatically create a series of five artistic photos alongside the original to deliver an impressive result even for a beginner.

The PowerShot N Facebook ready digital camera will also be connected straight to your Facebook account, letting you upload, comment and share your most creative, detailed images even when you are away from the computer (but within vicinity of a Wi-Fi network, of course). Features of the Canon Powershot N include a 2.8-inch capacitive, tilt-touch panel LCD, a 12.1-megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5 Image Processor, Full HD video recording capability, and wireless printing support with compatible printers. There is only one color to choose from though – the Canon Powershot N will be available from this September onwards in white for $299.99 a pop. [Press Release]

Canon appeals to internet socialites with PowerShot N Facebook camera

Canon appeals to internet socialites with PowerShot N Facebook pointandshoot

Facebook fanatics have a smartphone to call their own, and now they have a camera, too. Canon’s PowerShot N, which first made its debut at CES, just scored a few (relatively minor) tweaks. The point-and-shoot features an unusual square design, so it can be rotated and held in a variety of orientations. There’s a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 5 processor, 28-224mm f/3.0-5.9 8x optical zoom lens and a 2.8-inch capacitive-touch tilting LCD, just as you’ll find on the original. In fact, the Facebook branding represents the only significant change here, including a dedicated button on the side to upload images to the site (via built-in WiFi) and a new Facebook upload option in the system menu. It’s hardly worth “upgrading” from the original N, but if Facebook is your life, get ready to hand over 300 bucks for this Canon online store exclusive beginning next month.

Zuckerberg’s 5bn internet aim may be naive experts warn

Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to get five billion people in developing nations online is ambitious but unlikely to bear fruit any time soon, with a survey of network analysts suggesting the Facebook-led project faces a considerable lead-time before any significant number of users are actually connected. The so-called internet.org project may be supported by some industry […]

All Facebook Users Can Now Embed Posts Online

All Facebook Users Can Now Embed Posts Online

Last month Facebook introduced embedded posts. The feature allows users of the world’s biggest social network to embed public Facebook posts that they find compelling on their own blogs and websites. Embedded posts can contain videos, pictures, hashtags as well as other content. Initially Facebook only gave a few media organizations the ability to embed posts, these included the Huffington Post and Bleacher Report. Today Facebook has rolled out the feature for all of its users, which are well over one billion. (more…)

Facebook Embedded Posts switch-on fully with video and mobile tweaks

Facebook has turned on post embedding for all users, as well as bolstering the social-spreading system with new features like video embeds and better performance on mobile device screens. Launched in late July, Facebook Embedded Posts were initially only available to select publishers in the social site’s trial; now, though, any publisher can slot Facebook […]

Facebook opens up embedded posts to everyone

Facebook now letting everyone embed posts, even your mom

Now that Facebook has let media outlets try their hand at embedded posts for a few weeks, it’s opened up that door to the rest of us plebeians. Everyone, and yes we mean everyone, can now embed any public Facebook post, complete with images, links, text and hashtags, on to their own site. Your adoring readership may then “like” or hit follow on the source if they’re so inclined. So hey, now anyone can serve as a guerrilla news source the next time a major news organization goes offline. To see what an embedded post looks like, we’ve included one from our Engadget account after the break.

Facebook Denies Zuck Wall Hacker $500 Reward, Internet Gives Him $10K

Remember our friendly white hat hacker, Khalil Shreateh, who got stiffed on his just reward after identifying a Facebook bug that let him post on Zuckerberg’s wall? Well, looks like the hacker community has no intention of letting their buddy’s bank account fall to the wayside. After setting up a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, security researcher Marc Maiffret has successfully collected $10,000 in donations for Shreateh—a full 20 times more than Facebook’s withheld offering.

A Simple Waterproof Camera That Automatically Shares Your Shots Online

A Simple Waterproof Camera That Automatically Shares Your Shots Online

Samsung’s Android-powered Galaxy Camera was the first dedicated shooter that let users instantly upload their photos to their favorite social networks. And while it offered better image quality and controls over a smartphone’s built-in camera, at $500, plus the cost of a data plan, it was a tough sell. But at just $200, plus a monthly fee to your local carrier, theQ camera is a slightly sweeter deal.
