Samsung Galaxy Note III vs Galaxy Note II specifications war: very unofficial

While the final specifications for the Galaxy Note III – and indeed confirmation in kind that the device itself exists – must still come from Samsung, today we’re taking the time to run down the numbers on boosts the Galaxy Note has likely received since last year. In the Samsung Galaxy Note II, we saw […]

Samsung Galaxy Note III arrival hinted in September event teaser

Samsung has always had a big presence at the annual IFA convention in Berlin. It’s where they’ve unveiled a number of notable devices, including the Galaxy Camera and the Galaxy Note II. This time around, the company is teasing “UNPACKED 2013 Episode 2,” and if their clever “note the date” phrase is any indication, we […]

Samsung Galaxy Note III leaked sketch teases Xenon camera flash

Samsung’s successor to the Galaxy Note II is surely to come into existence at some point, and we’ve been waiting on it for quite some time now, but it seems we’re still stuck with rumors and leaks for the time being. The latest leak to cross our paths is a sketch of what is said to be the Galaxy Note III. Nothing too out of the ordinary here, except for what is said to be a Xenon camera flash.

The sketch itself doesn’t reveal much about the design of the phablet smartphone, seeing as how it just looks like any other device from Samsung, but the spec sheet below the sketch reveals that the phone will include a “Xenon flash,” which is a rare thing to see on smartphones and hasn’t yet quite caught on yet in the mobile market.

A Xenon flash is a lot better than conventional LED flash in the sense that a Xenon flash allows for much better low-light images. Xenon flashes provide a stronger burst of light, but they can’t be used when recording video, since they can’t be left on like an LED flash can. Nokia’s 808 PureView has a Xenon flash, which can capture much better photos in low-light conditions.

The sketch also reveals that the Galaxy Note III will have a dedicated camera shutter button, which is something that we don’t see on Samsung devices. The camera itself will sport a 13MP sensor that will most likely be the same sensor that’s in the Galaxy S 4, but we can’t be quite sure just yet.

The Galaxy Note III is said to be packing an Exynos Octa core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 in different regions) with 2GB of RAM. There will also be a gargantuan 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a full 1080p HD resolution. To finish the job, the phablet will be running Android Jelly Bean, although we’re not sure if it’ll be version 4.2 or 4.3, but we should be finding out in a couple of months.

Samsung Galaxy Note III detailed with nine carrier editions

This week there’s been no lack of interest for the next generation of Samsung Galaxy Note devices, specifically with the handheld smartphone going by the name Galaxy Note III. This device will take the place of the previous entry in the size category, the Samsung Galaxy Note II, and will be coming in a variety of carrier versions right out of the gate. Like the previous releases of Samsung’s last year of smartphone hero devices, this machine will likely hit most carriers around the world in the span of a few weeks.

pen-580x3931

What we’ve got eyes on this afternoon is a series of machine codes that suggest carrier editions for international and United States-bound versions of the machine.
Starting with stateside, we’ve got iterations for each of the top four mobile brands inside our borders:

• Verizon version SM-N900V
• AT&T version SM-N900A
• Sprint version SM-N900S
• T-Mobile version SM-N900T

These machines will be joined by one common international edition SM-N900 as well as a set of three currently less-known model numbers Beta SM-N900R4, SM-N900P, SM-N900J. The international version of the machine will be coming with a quad-core Exynos processor (likely Exynos OCTA, two sets of four cores, that is), while the stateside editions will be working with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core SoC.

This model is exceedingly similar to the push for the Samsung Galaxy S 4, though here we’re seeing the Qualcomm processor upgraded from 600 to 800 in kind. There’s also a Samsung Galaxy S 4 LTE-Advanced version of the smaller smartphone out on the market with a Snapdragon 800, but said release is extremely limited and meant mainly to test the waters in the LTE-A parts of the world.

The Samsung Galaxy Note III has been suggested to be working with a 5.9-inch display with 1080p resolution and an S-Pen with abilities ever-so-slightly advanced beyond those of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, revealed earlier this year. Tips on model numbers, in this case, come from noted leakster C Technology in all his mousy goodness.

You’ll want to have a peek at SlashGear’s review of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 as well as our review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 to get a general idea of what the two will bring together in a final pocket-sized (depending on your pocket size) machine later this year.

Samsung Said To Launch Four Versions Of The Galaxy Note III By The End Of The Year

galnote2

Talk about trying to cover bases. Korean news outlet ETNews reports that Samsung’s Galaxy Note III isn’t going to be an only child when it launches later this year — instead, it will be joined by up to three siblings that will apparently debut at the same time.

The Google translation makes it bit tricky to discern what’s going on, but ETNews claims that while the four devices will feature the same applications, processors, and hardware platforms, they’ll sport different configurations of displays, cameras, and cases in a bid to appeal to certain sorts of computers. As the report goes, the most premium of these Note IIIs will feature a flexible display and a metal chassis, components that won’t appear in the more cost-conscious variants meant for different markets. What’s more, the size of the display will vary slightly between those different versions — they’ll reportedly range between 5.68 and 5.7 inches.

At this stage though, the Note III itself is still a wild card — techies and pundits expect Samsung to officially reveal the device at the IFA trade show in Berlin like it did with the Galaxy Note II. Earlier rumors also alleged that the Note III would have a 5.9-inch display (which doesn’t jibe with this new report) — either way the device will definitely strain some pockets, but thankfully not as much as Sony’s gargantuan 6.4-inch Xperia Z Ultra. Rounding out the purported spec list is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz and 3GB of RAM, which would propel the phone to the top of the heap in terms of horsepower (though LG’s Optimus G2 may be right up there with it).

As always, you should take all this with a hefty grain of salt, but this is nothing if not a well-worn strategy for Samsung — the company has made a habit of crafting what they imagine will be a popular new smartphone, and then pushing out spin-offs based on that original design meant to appeal to different niches. We saw it with the Galaxy S III and its little brother the S III Mini, and Samsung saw fit to expand the Galaxy S4 family in a big way with three curious variants revealed over the past few months. So far the Note series of phablets haven’t been subjected to Samsung’s desire to endlessly tinker, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see if that wasn’t the case for very much longer.

Samsung Jay-Z deal is real: showtime set for NBA finals Sunday [UPDATE]

An invitation to tune in to the NBA Finals game five on Sunday has landed on the digital desks of the press this afternoon, suggesting that the Samsung Galaxy S 4 and the artist known as Jay-Z will come together for some great showing. This lends itself well to the idea that the artist signed

Samsung Galaxy Note III prototype appears in leaked photos

We’ve heard a lot of chatter about Samsung’s third-generation Galaxy Note, most notably that it’ll come with an ever larger screen this time around. However, we’ve never actually seen any purported photos of the device, but that has changed. A few leaked images have appeared that show off what is said to be a prototype

Samsung Galaxy Note III camera tipped with anti-shake and image stabilization

We’ve been hearing a lot of rumblings about the Galaxy Note III lately, and it seems we may hear an official announcement next month during a Samsung event, where they’re expected to reveal new Galaxy and ATIV devices. In the meantime, rumors are flying in, and it’s said that the phone’s camera will come with some pretty impressive features.

samsung_galaxy_note_ii_review_sg_40-580x478

According to etnews, the Galaxy Note III will come with a 13MP camera, which goes right along with what we’ve heard before about the sensor. However, it’s also said that the camera will feature anti-shake technology that will clean up video footage to make it more smooth — a perfect feature for those who have shaky hands.

Furthermore, it’s said that the phablet’s camera will also feature optical image stabilization, as well as “shutter functions,” although no details were given as to what these functions would be exactly. image stabilization is something we see in point and shoot cameras now, but it hasn’t made its way to the smartphone market in full force quite yet.

An official from Samsung’s mobile communications division was to have said that the company is “pondering various technologies at this stage,” mentioning optical image stabilization, but “nothing has yet to be confirmed.” Because of that, Samsung says that they “cannot conclusively say that those functions will be added to the Galaxy Note III.”

Does this mean we won’t see these types of features in the Galaxy Note III? No, but we would take this with a grain of salt, as Samsung even says they’re not sure if these features will come to the new phablet, but it seems they’re at least testing out these new technologies, so we could see them in future phones at some point if they don’t arrive on the Galaxy Note III.

Galaxy Note III set for Samsung multi-device event

The next wave of Samsung devices is washing in as a London event announced earlier today clues the public in, miniature photo style. The Samsung Galaxy Note III will quite likely be up for announcement as it’s been appearing in benchmarks here and there and has historically appeared not long after a Galaxy smartphone hero device in the past. Meanwhile the company has Windows 8 notebooks and a brand new Galaxy Camera to show as well.

pen-580x393

This Samsung event is sure to be packed with announcements that expand the company’s collection of Android and Windows devices with a real possibility for Tizen appearing on the tail end. Guesses surrounding the actual invite card have centered on these three items:

1. Galaxy Note III
2. ATIV Ultrabooks (Series 7)
3. Galaxy S 4 ZOOM

Samsung_Premiere_2013_GALAXYATIV_1-502x500

The third entry has appeared in UAProf listings, passed on by Mobileaks as a replacement for the Samsung Galaxy Camera, here coming with software features that mix it in well with the GALAXY S 4 lineup. This camera will likely be working with a 16 megapixel camera and the same sensor as the original device.

galaxynote_tiny

The Samsung Galaxy Note III, on the other hand, has appeared in the benchmark system AnTuTu several times. The most likely candidate for final release amongst the several instances of the device code-named GT-N7200 (Galaxy Note III) is one running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with a processor clocked at 1.6GHz. This is the same clock speed at which the Samsung GALAXY S 4 was released, that belonging to the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor.

What will quite likely be the case is that, regardless of the physical screen size of the Galaxy Note III, it’ll have the same number of pixels as appearing on the Samsung GALAXY S 4. Alongside this 1080p display, the Galaxy Note III will have a 13-megapixel camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor when released in the USA, and will be working with an S Pen with newly upgraded abilities.

You can expect the Samsung Galaxy Note III to be released internationally by September with a USA debut not long after. The question of whether this device will be released to multiple carriers or not is all but moot at this point: only how much longer after AT&T and T-Mobile Verizon will release device remains up in the air.
