Fan-made render? Very possible, but we’re intrigued by the notion. The gang at Mobile01 have laid out two more photos of what is being called the Motorola Shadow (not to be confused with the T-Mobile Shadow), which in a nutshell looks like Droid / Milestone with a white keyboard and wrist strap. Even more interesting is the assertion that this could be Google’s next flagship device, here lovingly dubbed the Nexus Two. Now while there is no way to corroborate at this point, we could totally buy this as feasible. After all, what better way to complement the Nexus One slate than with one with physical QWERTY? And who better than the company whose Android 2.0 device increased the platform’s mindshare at supersonic speeds, with a CEO willing to signify support even at the launch event for a competitor’s product? LG releasing Windows Mobile 7 phone in September and Android 2.1 in April?

First LG flat-out says on public record that Windows Mobile 7 is bound for 2010, and now we’ve gotten apparent word that the company has narrowed said release window to September of this year — at least as far as its own devices are concerned. That comes via high-profile French tech blogger Eric of Presse Citron, who while attending a LG Design Lab tweeted (both in French and immediately after in English) that LG Mobile will release a Windows Mobile 7 device in September and an Android 2.1 device in April, first in the US and then Europe just after. The tweets are now gone, but WMPoweruser managed to catch both via Google cache, while we have corroborated just the French one by similar means. So, misheard claims from the company or accidental slip-up of NDA’d secrets? MWC is starting to look more and more interesting.

Droid gets overclocking, Nexus One gets tethering, Android hackers get mad props
If there’s one problem with Motorola’s Droid it’s that the battery life is just too long. We can almost make it through an entire day without a recharge and really, who wants that? Thank goodness there’s a hack to enable an extra 50MHz boost, bumping the Droid up to a full 600 and, according to at least one user, significantly decreasing stability in the process. We’ll go ahead and skip that one, but on the more alluring side there’s a new add-on to the (already rooted) Nexus One that enables wired or wireless tethering. It’s not a full ROM but does entail a kernel update, and as always these things can go horribly wrong if you don’t know what you’re doing. Not sure if you know what you’re doing? Chances are you have your answer.

Nexus One gets a custom ROM

It’s been but a week since the gang at Modaco rooted the Nexus One — and what do we have here? A quick visit to the self-same forums today has revealed that the handset has a new custom ROM. Based on the 22607 release (in case you’re curious), this bad boy sports many new and exciting features, including the Nano 2.09 text editor, wireless tether, Titanium Backup, Busybox 1.15.3, and more. Feelin’ adventurous? Hit the source link to give it a go. And make sure you drop us a line and let us know how it goes. (You don’t think we’re going to be the first to try it, do you?)

Verizon getting Google’s Nexus One in Spring 2010

Oh boy, you heard that right. Google’s slinging its Nexus One to Verizon in the Spring for an undisclosed amount. At a purchase page that went live during the company’s product launch event in Mountain View, users are notified that the phone will soon be available on America’s largest carrier. Two things are immediately interesting here — for starters, it’s not coming (right away, at least) to bump heads with the iPhone on AT&T, and secondly, Google is openly suggesting that you buy Motorola’s (as in, not HTC’s) Droid now if you just can’t wait a day longer for some of that Android goodness. If AT&T wasn’t scared, it should be now.

Nexus One rooted already?

No, you still can’t have one (not yet, at least), but we’ve received a number of tips directing us Modaco forums, where admin Paul claims to have rooted Google’s not-so-mysterious Nexus One. We can’t validate the “superboot” file works, but the adjacent picture has popped up from another forum member as apparent anecdotal confirmation. Instructions for Windows, Linux, and OS X users can be found along with the necessary materials. What do you say, hacker community, any chance we can get multitouch loaded into the device before it ever becomes official to the world at large?

Android 2.0 officially coming to T-Mobile G1?

We don’t know where this is coming from so take it with a grain of salt, but rumor has it from AndroidSPIN that the progenitor Android device, the T-Mobile G1, is destined to officially get an over-the-air update for an Eclair build, Android 2-point-something. Hey T-Mo, we know the holidays are pretty much over, but could you validate these whispers for us? Thanks!

Motorola’s Shop4apps online Android app store discovered

Leave it to the gung ho gang at Android and Me to do some clever Googling and discovering Motorola’s web based Android app store, Shop4apps. The store has since been removed / made hidden, but not before we got a good glimpse at the whole shebang. There’s a MyLocker section to check your download history, the ability to re-download and transfer aspps to a new phone, and a special MotoAppstore client for downloading and installing the apps (which unfortunately wasn’t working yet). Frankly, the images aren’t too flattering, so we’re hoping for some further tweaking before it’s official launch. In the meantime, hit up the source link for more pictures.

Netronix looking to Android, 3G for its e-book readers

Google’s little green man has been getting quite an education lately, popping up in a number of e-book readers (why hello there Nook, Alex, eDGe). Not to be left out, Netronix is reportedly also looking to work with Texas Instruments on assimilating Android into its product line, according to company chairman Arthur Lu (via DigiTimes). Neither are bad trends to follow in this still-infant industry, but the questions remains as to when and how it’ll actually work. Also on the company to-do list? 3G and 3.5G capabilities, supposedly coming sometime in the middle of 2010. Bated breath? Hold it.
