Unofficial Google Glass Prescription Lenses Expected To Cost $99

Unofficial Google Glass Prescription Lenses Expected To Cost $99

Google has confirmed that its much hyped wearable device, Google Glass, will receive prescription lenses. Last year the company released an updated model of its wearable device that supports prescription lenses, but so far Google hasn’t said when its going to launch said lenses. On the other hand Rochester Optical announced last year that it has made prescription lenses for Glass and that it would begin selling them in early 2014. The company is rumored to be releasing its lenses soon and they’re expected to cost as low as $99.

It should be kept in mind that Rochester Optical is not partnering with Google on prescription lenses for Glass. A spokesman for the internet search giant as also reiterated the same, there is no relationship between Google and Rochester Optical at this point in time. The prescription lenses come at a time when Google is slowly opening up its Glass program. Day before yesterday it rolled out invitations to Play Music All Access subscribers, an indicator that its gearing up for a public release later this year. Users who don’t have perfect vision may find it hard to use Glass, given that its display is essentially like a 25 inch high definition display viewed from eight feet away. It is said that Rochester Optical’s prescription lenses will simply clip on Google Glass the way its active shades and clear shield do. No confirmed release date has been rumored as of now.

Google To Shut Down Bump And Flock Apps

Google To Shut Down Bump And Flock Apps

Bump was a very popular file sharing application back in the day. Users could share files with each other simply through “bumping” their devices together. The app might have lost its lustre recently but that didn’t stop Google from picking up the company in September 2013. It seemed like a talent focused aquisition because work on the company’s apps stopped soon after the acquisition. Now it has formally been announced that the company’s Bump and Flock apps are going to be shut down and removed from the App Store and the Google Play Store on January 31, 2014.

Even though Flock wasn’t as popular as Bump, users are likely to miss it as well. It is an automatic photo sharing application which is capable of recognizing faces in photos. Once it identifies people in a photo, Flock can share it with them. Those who have been using both of these apps for quite some time and have data in them can simply launch then right now and get instructions on how to take out their data. It should be kept in mind that all data is going to be wiped once the shutdown date has lapsed, so there’s no point in procrastinating if you have data in the apps. Even though the apps will be no more, the team will continue to work on projects at Google.

Nokia Open To Google Discussing Possible Patent Settlement

Nokia Open To Google Discussing Possible Patent SettlementIn the tech space, companies such as Apple have taken on some of Android’s biggest players in the form of Samsung, and Nokia has been doing their part as well in their legal battle with HTC, but it seems that Nokia is willing to take on Google themselves (and Google’s subsidiary Motorola Mobility whom they acquired not too long ago) in a statement released by Nokia as part of their ITC filing, stating that they are willing to sit down with Google and discuss the “unauthorized use” of Nokia’s patents.

According to the statement, “If Google wishes to proceed with its requested meeting, Nokia will do so, as we have repeatedly told you. Indeed, Nokia’s Robert Gray explained in his October 25, 2013, letter to Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc.: ‘If Google is in a position to end the unauthorized use of Nokia patented technology in Android products, [Nokia] would welcome independent discussions with Google on that basis.’ Google has not taken Nokia up on that offer. Mr. Gray (or someone on his team) remains available to meet in Finland before the settlement conference deadline, if Google so desires.”

As it stands Nokia has been somewhat successful in their legal tussle with HTC and has managed to get several of HTC’s products banned in various parts of the world. Assuming Nokia decides to take things to the next level, they will be joining the likes of the Rockstar consortium in taking the legal fight to Google’s doorsteps.
