Pandora iOS And Android Apps Now Offer Personalized Recommendations

Pandora iOS And Android Apps Now Offer Personalized Recommendations

Pandora is one of the major and well established players in the online radio niche, and today the company has released updated versions of its mobile apps for iOS and Android. The new apps come with a feature that’s likely to improve the user experience, particularly when it comes to finding new radio stations. Users will now receive personalized online radio station recommendations through the mobile applications, this new feature builds up on Pandora’s efforts to make improvements to the playlist experience.

The way personalized recommendations work is that users will receive up to 6 suggested artists stations to add and listen at a time, recommendations will be based on current listening preferences as well as station lists, likes and dislikes through thumb interactions. Recommendations can be found in the create a station screen, when users tap to create a station, a list will come up on the screen. Recommendations will also be displayed on the bottom of the station list. Whenever a new station is created or deleted, the list is refreshed. They will get better as users interact more with the feature, Pandora says that it has future plans to evolve and refine recommendations, and that it is already working on said improvements.

Brilliant, Overdue App Forces Your Phone to Take Horizontal Videos

Brilliant, Overdue App Forces Your Phone to Take Horizontal Videos

You can tell your friends and family they should be shooting videos horizontally all you want, but that won’t stop them from capturing unwieldily vertical clips that are impossible to fullscreen on a computer. But there’s finally a solution to this problem. Simply hide their default camera app—bury it deep in a folder somewhere—and replace it with Horizon, a replacement camera app that captures horizontal videos no matter how the device is held.

Analysis: iOS Users Spend More Than Android Users

Analysis: iOS Users Spend More Than Android UsersThe ongoing battle between Android and iOS does not seem to have an end in sight, and in a new analysis that was conducted by IBM which concerns online shopping trends throughout the recently concluded 2013 holiday season, it has thrown up some rather interesting results – that iPhone and iPad users tend to make more purchases online compared to Android users. This continues to send an extremely strong signal that iOS is a lucrative platform for eCommerce, never mind the fact that Android has picked up its fair share of users over the years. The study showed that iOS users spent around $93.94 on average, which is nearly double of what Android users spent at $48.10 per order.

Apple Patent Allows User Interface To Shift And Change Depending On User’s Motion

Apple Patent Allows User Interface To Shift And Change Depending On Users MotionWhen running with your smartphone in your hand, sometimes it can be hard to press certain buttons or launch certain apps because the phone keeps bouncing around. Well Apple is hoping to compensate for that in a patent which seems to suggest that iOS devices will be able to adjust the screen to compensate for movement. For example one of the ways could be that music playback control buttons could be made larger when running to make them easily identifiable and easier to press. Icons could also “stabilize” themselves so that when moving, you can press them easily, ultimately giving the user the illusion that the phone is very stable.

Naturally this application will rely on Apple’s built-in sensors in their iOS devices, like the gyroscope, proximity sensor, accelerometer, and so on in order for it to work, and just like autocorrect, the phone will eventually be able to “learn” the user’s touches in order to better correct for errors. Now this is hardly considered to be a groundbreaking feature, but it is a feature of convenience that will probably be appreciated in the long run. The patent was filed for back in 2007 so there’s no telling if Apple plans on ever applying to future iOS devices, or if it was simply an idea that Apple had thought up of but never planned on making a reality. What do you guys think? Is this a feature you’d love to see in future iOS devices, or other smartphones in general?
