Because sometimes it’s just fun to scream at each other for no reason, let’s figure this thing out.
When it comes to advertising their products, Microsoft has never been shy in comparing themselves against the competition, highlighting some of the disadvantages and flaws of their competitors’ products. Well a new advertisement has been released Microsoft where they basically show off the Nokia Lumia 1020’s camera abilities. Of course the “enemies” of the ad are the iOS and Android users where they are busy fighting with each other trying to capture the best photo, and there are even a couple of people in the audiences using the iPad to snap photos which is something of a faux pas.
In the meantime while everyone is busy jostling and stepping over each other trying to get the best photo possible, a couple is seated at the back with their Lumia 1020 that unsurprisingly has managed to capture a crisp and sharp image even from so far behind. In any case even if you don’t believe that the Lumia 1020 has the ability to snap better photos than the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S4, it still makes for a pretty hilarious ad nonetheless. If you have a minute to spare, you can check out the ad in the video above.

Pandora’s iOS and Android apps get sleep timer, might protect against data-limit night terrors
Posted in: Today's ChiliHaving relinquished the 40-hour mobile listening limit (at least, starting September), Pandora’s added a new sleep timer to its apps too. It’s probably a lesser issue, given Pandora’s aforementioned announcement, but the improvement (apparently coming direct from its users) should ensure that you’re able to protect at least some of your carrier data if you fall asleep listening to your tech-pushing artist of choice. You’ll get to pick from a dizzying array of countdowns — well, 15, 30 or 60 minutes — while Pandora promises that more (less soporific) features are on the way.

Look at the text message conversation between any two people in the 12 to late 20s age range and there’s a pretty decent chance you’ll get a deluge of brightly colored cartoon icons that, just a few years ago, would have seemed entirely nonsensical. Now they can tell entire tales
As Apple continues their front against the mapping apps of the mobile industry, they make pushes like the acquisition of mapping startup Embark Inc – as they’ve been revealed to have done today. It’s through Jessica Lessin that this business deal appears, with people knowledgeable about the deal suggesting that Apple will directly integrate what […]
Apple acquires Embark, a transit app it recommended during the iOS Maps disaster
Posted in: Today's ChiliRemember that time Apple launched a new iteration of iOS with a godawful mapping app? Shortly after that, it also recommended that users in major metropolitan areas lean on third-party apps for mass transit navigation, given that iOS Maps had no such functionality. As it turns out, Embark was one of those app makers, and it has very much enjoyed the influx of attention that has arrived thanks to Apple’s gaffe. Now, however, the small team will likely not be toiling on future Android apps, as Jessica Lessin is reporting that Embark has been acquired by Apple itself. It’s unclear how much money changed hands, but one could surmise that Apple will be using Embark’s technology to bolster its own mass transit routing — an area where Google currently rules the roost. Will proper integration happen prior to iOS 7’s release this autumn? It’s doubtful, but we’ve sure seen crazier things happen.

Asphalt 8: Airborne launches with NVIDIA SHIELD, Tesla Model S, barrel rolls
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe 8th generation of Gameloft’s rather successful racing game franchise is out today for both iOS and Android devices in Asphalt 8: Airborne. This game takes another step toward making a truly worthy translation of the 2008 movie Speed Racer to the gaming universe. Though it’s not Gameloft saying they’re doing so, it certainly appears […]
With the success of tablets like the Google Nexus 7 seeing a second generation here in 2013, it would appear that the pressure is on for not just processor manufacturers but display panel makers to optimize their lower-end. With the creation of NVIDIA’s Kai strategy was laid the tracks for the miniature freight train that […]
While we’ve seen the Apple device known as Apple TV existing and updating steadily over the past several years, it’s still the full television set – screen and all – that hold sway over talks on where the company is going. Word today from sources speaking with Quartz suggests that Apple is not going to […]
Insert Coin: Piper melds home automation and security in a simple hub (hands-on)
Posted in: Today's ChiliIn Insert Coin, we look at an exciting new tech project that requires funding before it can hit production. If you’d like to pitch a project, please send us a tip with “Insert Coin” as the subject line.
Home automation and security cameras seldom combine elegantly, especially for apartment dwellers who can’t rewire their living spaces. Blacksumac, however, believes it can seamlessly meld those technologies through its upcoming Piper hub. The device links both a fisheye camera and environmental sensors to a Z-Wave-based home automation system. Out of the box, it can watch for intruders, listen for (or produce) loud noises and monitor local conditions like temperature. Once Z-Wave peripherals are involved, you can program sophisticated triggers and responses: Piper can send a warning when a door opens, for example, or turn on air conditioning when it’s hot. We’ve had a chance to see Piper in action, so read on for both our early impressions and details of what you’ll get if you make a pledge. %Gallery-slideshow73286%
