White iPhone 4 purportedly turns up in Best Buy’s inventory system, launching February 27th?

It’s been a long time coming, but it’s starting to look like things just might be starting to maybe, possibly line up for the white iPhone 4. We saw some inventory shots from Vodafone Germany ourselves yesterday, and now Mac Rumors has turned up a shot of it own that appears to show both 16GB and 32GB versions of the phone in Best Buy’s inventory system in the US. What’s more, these listings also show a specific in-stock date of February 27th and, for what it’s worth, the model numbers match those that first turned up in Best Buy’s system when it was originally taking pre-orders for the difficult-to-manufacture phone. Of course, we still won’t be fully satisfied until we start seeing some actual boxes with white iPhones in them, but here’s hoping we won’t have to wait too much longer for that to happen — Apple still hasn’t pushed back that “spring 2011” date, after all.

[Thanks, Micah ]

White iPhone 4 shows up in Vodafone Germany’s inventory system

Could it be that Apple and Foxconn engineers have finally found a way to harness and contain the raw, blinding power of the color white? Last we’d heard, the rarest member of the iPhone 4 clan was tracking for a spring ’11 launch — and that’d line up pretty nicely with shots we’ve received from a trusted source today showing new entries in Vodafone Germany’s inventory system for weiß (white) iPhone 4s in both 16 and 32GB flavors. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean Vodafone has any idea when these phones are showing up on their doorstep — maybe they’re just preparing (and hoping) that it materializes before too long — but for what it’s worth, the source says to expect a launch “soon.” If you’ve got a few hundred euro lying around, we suppose it’ll be a good way to bide your time while you wait for an iPhone 5 launch in a few months, right?

Go Retro with VintageVinyl

VinylCase.jpg

For those who love the look of a vinyl record but would prefer to actually listen to an iPod, there’s the new VintageVinyl Record case. It gives the appearance of vinyl, as if a real vinyl record was molded onto the back on an iPhone 4. It’s available today for the AT&T and the Verizon iPhone 4. It’s new school meets old school, says case-maker Lenntek.

How realistic is the case? There are precision-cut grooves on the case to fully give the look of a vinyl record. The case comes with two record labels that can be written on and placed on the back of the case for a custom look. It’s a smart choice for the clumsy, as the soft-touch rubberized coating on the sides gives owners an extra grip. Lenntek is selling it for $34.99.

iOS 4.3 code reveals new iPhone and iPad models, rumor mill suggests a dislike of the home button

History lesson, folks. If you dig far enough into iOS’s code, you’ll eventually come across iPhone3,1, which is the AT&T iPhone 4, and the analogous iPhone3,2 (i.e. Verizon iPhone). It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but then along comes iOS 4.3 with a handful of new mystery identifiers to spurn speculation — namely, two new-generation iPhones (4,1 and 4,2) and three iPads (2,1; 2,2; and 2,3). Speculate all you want, but there isn’t much else at all we can say definitively here, but if we had to take a guess, it’s the GSM and CDMA variants of the next-gen models (plus a WiFi-only iPad). It is interesting to note the lack of an “iPhone4,3” given the yet-to-be-revealed iPhone3,3 is still there — will the last member ever see the light of day? Outside of iOS 4.3 but still very much related, BGR is claiming it’s heard from sources that the next iPhone / iPad models will eschew the physical home button altogether in lieu of the new multi-finger gestures and that employees at Cupertino are already testing such devices. That seems a little more out there to us; five-finger pinch to home feels extremely clunky. The real takeaway here? We can finally have an iPhone rumor that doesn’t involve wondering if it’ll head to a new US carrier.

AT&T and Verizon are the same bag of 3G hurt for iPhone owners, says T-Mobile (video)

Want some help with your newfound choice of iPhone carrier? Let T-Mobile break it down for you in an entirely unbiased and dispassionate fashion. The pink carrier’s latest hit piece commercial highlights the fact that, whether on Verizon or AT&T, the iPhone only has recourse to 3G connectivity, painting the two carriers as a pair of grey suits distinguishable only by the color of their ties. It’s a cute way to promote your own 4G network, sure, but it conveniently disregards the fact that Verizon’s enriching its LTE (Lightning! Thunder! Electric!) network with some true superphones while AT&T is similarly committed to a 2011 LTE rollout. So, really, the only thing under critique here is Apple’s rapidly aging 3G wonder. Skip the break to see the video ad.

Incipio shows off Game Boy-themed iPhone case and no, you can’t have it

Do you want this Game Boy-themed iPhone 4 case? Well, how does it feel to want? Not all that hot from where we’re sitting, that’s for damn sure. Spotted at Incipio’s CES booth, the company put the case together to demo the company’s production capabilities. Sadly, for us, the thing won’t be coming to market at any time in the near future (unless someone in Shenzhen decides to take on the cause, that is). We must say, this is a big improvement over the company’s iPod nano watch bands — and an immense improvement over the guy who shoved an HTC Aria inside his old Game Boy (throwing in a fake iPhone 4 for good measure). Get another look after the break.

AT&T ‘evaluating’ support for iOS Personal Hotspot, no plans yet

Although you’d think AT&T would be all over the Verizon iPhone‘s new personal hotspot feature if only just to keep feature parity with its biggest competitor, the carrier is taking a more measured approach — an AT&T spokesperson just told us that they’re “evaluating the feature, but have no plans to announce at this time.” Given that the iOS 4.3 beta just brought hotspot support to the GSM iPhone, we’re guessing that the holdup is more tactical than technical — Verizon still hasn’t announced its iPhone data plan pricing or hotspot tax, and we’re assuming AT&T’s just waiting for some numbers before announcing support sometime around, say, February 10th. We’ll see.

P.S.- We’re also thinking it would be sweet it AT&T supported WiFi hotspot with 3G iPad and its contract-free data plans, but we’re just wishing one wish at a time here.

Case-Mate Announces Verizon iPhone Accessories

Verizon_iPhone_Case-Mate3.jpg
It’s been a little over 24 hours since Verizon announced it will be selling the iPhone 4 in February, and the accessories manufacturers are already jumping at the chance to sell their iPhone cases to new Verizon iPhone customers. Just how different will the AT&T iPhone case be from a Verizon iPhone case? That’s yet to be determined. That being said, Case-Mate has announced its line of Verizon iPhone accessories.

Its new line of cases will vary in a range of colors, textures, and materials. They’re not available for sale just yet, but you can sign up to get e-mail updates and arrival notifications when they are.

Some of the cases look familiar, like the Vroom, and the Gelli, but there are many new designs that are sure to tickle your fancy. Personally, I like the Waddler and the Monsta.

AT&T: Please Let Us Hotspot Our iPhones [Open Letter]

Hi, AT&T? Loyal customer here. Really been digging the iPhone the last few years, and was excited to find out I can use it as a hotspot in March. That is, if you let us. And here’s why you should. More »

iPhone Personal Hotspot feature headed to all iPhones in iOS 4.3?

So, by now you’ve had a chance to digest the fact that Verizon‘s getting the iPhone, right? A standout from yesterday’s news is of course the iPhone Personal Hotspot feature that those lucky red devils are being treated to. Hopefully the rest of us won’t have to remain envious for to long, though — BGR says its sources have confirmed that that feature is headed to all iPhones once iOS 4.3 lands. The word is the OS version with this shiny treat will be 8F5148B with a baseband version of 04.08.00. Of course, your carrier is likely going to have to be on board, a-la tethering support, but once that dust settles not only will you be able to tether your device, but your friends will be able to join in — and rack up your data usage, too. So sit back, relax, and all will be revealed if and when this bridges the gap between rumor and reality.
