No, Seriously, Don’t Stand in Line For the iPhone

No, Seriously, Don't Stand in Line For the iPhone

We went over this in depth last week, but it’s worth a stern reminder: There is no good reason to stand in line for the iPhone. None. Unless you are Steve Wozniak, and even then it’s dicey.

Apple iPhone 5 Discontinued, iPhone 4S Now Free On Contract

Apple iPhone 5 Discontinued, iPhone 4S Now Free On Contract

After nearly an year of competing in the global smartphone market, the iPhone 5 is no more. Apple has decided to discontinue last year’s flagship smartphone and replace it with the new iPhone 5C. Traditionally, whenever the company has released a new iPhone, it discounted the previous one to $99 on contract and offered the one before that for free, on contract. Instead of doing that this year, Apple packaged the internals of iPhone 5 into the iPhone 5C, slapped colorful polycarbonate shells on top and discontinued its previous smartphone. Filling the $99 on contract spot now is the 16GB iPhone 5C.

Customers who’re willing to be tied to a two year contract but don’t want to put any money down for a new iPhone can now opt for an iPhone 4S, which is being offered for free, on contract. It makes sense that the company has discontinued iPhone 5, because it would have been in the same price point as the iPhone 5C, Apple can’t sell two iPhones for the same price. If it would have offered the iPhone 5 for free on contract, the move probably might have hurt iPhone 5C sales, considering the fact that there are major hardware differences between the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, while there are no significant hardware differences between iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C.

iPhone 5C VS iPhone 5, What’s New And What’s The Same

iPhone 5C VS iPhone 5, Whats New And Whats The Same

Earlier today Apple finally announced the iPhone 5C. We had heard a lot of rumors about this smartphone over the past few months, most of them have turned out to be true. One such rumor was that the iPhone 5C will have internal hardware similar to iPhone 5, the flagship smartphone Apple released last year. Yes, there definitely are some similarities, but the biggest difference between these smartphones is the construction. While the iPhone 5 is fashioned out of sleek aluminium and glass, the iPhone 5C opts for polycarbonate.

    What’s New:

    • Polycarbonate shell
    • White, blue, green, yellow and pink colors
    • Slightly larger battery
    • New FaceTime HD front camera
    • No 64GB storage option
    • Increased weight and thickness

    What’s The Same:

    • Apple designed A6 processor
    • 4 inch IPS LCD display, 1,136×640 pixel resolution, 326 ppi
    • 8 megapixel iSight rear camera
    • Bluetooth 4.0
    • Dual-band Wi-Fi
    • 4G LTE

The core components such as the display, processor and rear camera are the same on both iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5. Apple’s new iPhone is slightly heavier and thicker than last year’s flagship, which weighed in at 3.95 ounces as opposed to iPhone 5C’s 4.65 ounces. The iPhone 5C is also 0.05 inches thicker than iPhone 5, which measures 0.3 inches thick. The new smartphone is offered in five different colors whereas the iPhone 5 was only available in white and black. Apple has replaced iPhone 5 in its smartphone lineup with the iPhone 5C, so while the former has been discontinued, the 16GB iPhone 5C costs $99 and 32GB costs $199 on a two year contract.

Walmart’s New Smartphone Trade-In Program Offers $300 For An iPhone 5

Walmarts New Smartphone Trade In Program Offers $300 For An iPhone 5

Walmart today announced a new smartphone trade-in program. Customers who trade-in their old smartphones will be immediately given credit that can be put towards the purchase of a new smartphone. Over 3,600 Walmart outlets and Sam’s Club locations across the U.S. are participating in this program. Immediate credit will range between $50 to $300 and will be offered for more than 100 different smartphones. The device’s condition will definitely be a huge factor in determining the amount of credit. Walmart provides an example, a working non-damaged iPhone 5 will net the customer $300. For Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S2 in working and non-damaged condition, Walmart will provide $175 and $52 in credit respectively.

Customers just have to take in their smartphone to a participating location and answer a few simple and unbiased questions about the device’s specifications and conditions. The credit can only be applied towards the purchase of a new smartphone, either with a new two year contract or a smartphone that’s available with a prepaid plan. Walmart’s trade-in program kicks off on September 21st, a day after Apple is expected to release the new iPhones. Apple recently started its very own trade-in program at retail stores across the U.S., it too offers immediate credit that can be used to purchase a new iPhone.
