iPhone Attributed To NTT DOCOMO’s Growth In Subscribers

iPhone Attributed To NTT DOCOMOs Growth In SubscribersFor many years Japan’s largest carrier, NTT DOCOMO, resisted Apple and did not bring the iPhone onto its networks. However as the years passed and their rivals started to offer the iPhone, NTT DOCOMO realized that they were starting to lose subscribers to the competition and started to rethink their strategy. One of the reasons why the carrier had been so unwilling was because of the conditions and obligations that Apple imposed on its partners, and also because Apple refused to allow NTT DOCOMO to preinstall their own apps on the iPhone, primarily because Apple did not want bloatware from carrier to affect the overall iPhone experience. Eventually NTT DOCOMO gave in and finally offered the iPhone starting with the iPhone 5s, and thanks to new reports, it looks like the carrier has started to reap the benefits.

According to reports, it seems that NTT DOCOMO has managed to add an additional 279,000 new subscribers in December alone, making it the first time in two years that the carrier, despite being the largest in Japan, surpassed its rivals KDDI and Softbank in customer growth. While DOCOMO did not reveal how many iPhones it has managed to sell, a company spokesperson confirmed that Apple’s iPhone was one of the main reasons for its growth last month. Say what you will about the iPhone and the people use it, but it is hard to deny that it is anything but good for business. That being said, we can’t wait to see how the iPhone will impact China’s largest telco, China Mobile, as well.

Mophie Space Pack Adds Battery and Storage to Your iPhone 5/5S

My daughter has this penchant for installing apps on my iPhone that let her take care of virtual pets and cook virtual treats. The games are irritating for a couple reasons. One, they seem to constantly notify me that I need to do something. The other is that it seems each time an update comes is have to delete apps, screen shots and pictures to make space for her new games.

If you have a problem with too many pictures on your iPhone 5S or iPhone 5, mophie has a new product worth a look. The product is called the space pack and it has an internal battery like most cases from mophie. The case promises to double the run time of your phone.

That is very nice on its own, but the case also adds up to 32GB of additional storage. The case also comes in a 16GB version. You use an app that is available free to drop any files, photos, and video you want from the iPhone onto the space pack to free up internal storage on your iPhone, while preserving your data. The case will ship in March for $149.95(USD) for the 16GB version and $179.95 for the 32GB version.

Apple Products Expected To Account For 11% Of Global Business Spending In 2015

Apple Products Expected To Account For 11% Of Global Business Spending In 2015Are iPhones considered to be gateway devices to other Apple products? There’s an argument to be made for that but as it stands, it seems that thanks to a recent study conducted by Forrester Research, they have found that Apple products account for about 8% of global business and government spending in 2012, but expects that those numbers should hit 11% come 2015. Interestingly enough, the study did not mention anything about Apple’s iPhone, which like we said have been considered to be the gateway into other Apple products. In fact it was back in 2013 that we reported on Apple’s CEO’s plans of trying to push more iPhone sales at their retail stores.

The reasoning was that if more sales were made in their stores where other Apple products are also available for testing, it might prompt customers to make additional purchases they might not have made if they were just shopping online. This is a sound reasoning because as tempting as hardware specs are, sometimes getting a feel of a product tells you a lot more about it than its spec sheet. The study highlights Cisco Systems’ shift to Apple’s iOS platform by instituting a BYOD policy in 2009, where ultimately Apple’s iOS devices accounted for three quarters of Cisco’s 70,000 registered devices back then.

Naturally Windows-based products are still popular, given that a lot of companies still rely heavily on Microsoft’s productivity suite, like Microsoft Office, and also because of the familiarity of the Windows interface that will save companies time from having to retrain their staff. However as we mentioned earlier, Apple’s share of the market is expected to increase in the coming years, but as to whether it will eventually overtake Microsoft remains to be seen.

Signal RP1 Full-size iOS Controller Fights Screen Smudge and Hand Cramps

SteelSeries opted to make their upcoming wireless iOS controller as small as possible, perhaps to keep it as portable as the devices it will pair with. A new company called Signal is taking a different route. Its RP1 is about the same size and form as gaming console controllers.

    signal rp1 ios controller 620x413magnify

As you can see the RP1 looks a lot like an Xbox 360 controller, except its analog sticks and d-pad have a PlayStation-style setup. Aside from that, it has all the buttons and triggers you’d expect from a console controller, down to the triggers under the analog sticks. Like the Stratus, RP1 will connect to iOS 7 devices via Bluetooth, although Signal has not specified which of Apple’s devices it will work with.

With more and more console and desktop games being ported to iOS, I’m sure a decent number of iOS gamers will want to have a full-size controller like the RP1. But at this point I don’t think you should get one of these just yet, because like all announced iOS controllers the RP1 has a retail price of $100. This is Apple tax at its worst. Hopefully that number will descend from la-la land once more controllers are released.

iPhone 6 Could Feature 8MP Camera Only

iPhone 6 Could Feature 8MP Camera Only The next generation iPhone will most probably continue to attract plenty of attention. After all, any upcoming iPhone models would set the grapevines alight with chatter, so we do not see this situation change should there be a whiff of the iPhone 6 in the air. Having said that, we have already heard some rumors about the iPhone 6 this week alone, and here is the latest bit of gossip concerning this next generation smartphone (which should be still some time off away, especially when you consider how the iPhone 5s was released not too long ago). Word has it (from China, and an anonymous source to boot) that Apple will continue to use an 8-megapixel sensor for its camera, albeit that there will be improvements in other departments.

While the number of megapixels that are available in a particular camera sensor is not all that important these days, some folks do place plenty of emphasis on it. While Apple will continue to fly the 8-megapixel flag high, it will now come with optical image stabilization (OIS) in addition to other unnamed improvements – at least according to the rumor, of course. What do you think if this were to be true – would it be a factor in your next smartphone purchase?
