Sony RX100 sequel leaks in Japanese manual images, adds tilting screen, hot shoe and WiFi

Sony RX100R leaks in Japanese manual images, adds tilting screen, hot shoe and WiFi

We were more than a little smitten with Sony’s original RX100, a high-end Cybershot point-and-shoot housing a notable 1-inch 20.2-megapxiel CMOS sensor alongside a f/1.8 Carl Zeiss lens. It looks like there were enough customers that thought the same, because SonyAlphaRumors has gleaned several images from the manual for a sequel device. The site has more to share, but it’s checking its translations first. In the meantime, these initial images already point to some notable hardware additions. Alongside a screen that can tilt up and down (plus a light sensor to adjust brightness automatically), the mark two RX100 will apparently catch up with Sony’s NEX series, adding built-in WiFi too. There’s also the addition of a hot shoe for mics and other peripherals, but fear not: there’s still the built-in flash to the left of it. Naming, pricing and availability are still unknowns, but according to the site’s mole, the camera will get formally announced later this month on June 27.

Nokia EOS vs Lumia 920 shows just how small true PureView got

Nokia’s EOS PureView camera has cropped up in the wild again, now getting up close comparison-style with the Lumia 920 and showing just how little has changed from the front of the Windows Phone, at least. The new image, shared by perennial EOS tipster ViziLeaks, shows that the two handsets are largely identical, though the

Sony Xperia ZU specs reportedly leak: 6.44-inch display, 2.2GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, 8MP camera and 3,000mAh battery

Sony Xperia ZU specs reportedly leak 644inch display, 22GHz CPU, 2GB RAM and 3,000mAh battery

Given the quantity of rumors that are floating around, it’s hard to think that we won’t be seeing a Sony phablet intermediate-size phone/tablet device in the near future. One of the folks over at ePrice is claiming that the Xperia ZU (for “Ultra”) will come with a 6.44-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 342ppi. Internals-wise, it’s said to run a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 64GB microSD card slot, as well as a 3,000mAh non-removable battery. On the imaging front, there’s a 8-megapixel Exmor RS sensor primary camera and a 1.3-megapixel Exmor R up front. The same tipster let slip that the ZU won’t come with a stylus, but will be receptive to third-party styluses and should arrive on June 25th, so we’ll be waiting for an invite to Sony’s July 4th Paris launch with bated breath.

HTC Butterfly S spotted with BoomSound stereo speakers and Sense 5?

HTC Butterfly S spotted with BoomSound stereo speakers and Sense 5

OK, HTC, we’re starting to see a pattern here. Following the One, the Desire 600 (including China’s 606w and 608t) and the much anticipated One Mini, it’s no surprise that Peter Chou is keen to spread some BoomSound love to more devices. This will apparently include the upcoming Butterfly S, according to the above photos obtained by our friends over at VR-Zone. The leak claims to confirm that the display is still a 5-inch 1080p panel, and naturally, the old loudspeaker on the back has been made redundant by the new front-facing stereo speakers. There’s of course Sense 5 as well, as evidenced by BlinkFeed in the above shots, but we’re uncertain of whether the camera’s been swapped with an UltraPixel version. Well, we shall find out at the launch event in Taiwan next week.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra appears in event invite

We saw a couple images surface on June 6 of a device said to be the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, a 6.4-inch phablet previously known as the Sony Togari. While both the images certainly look like they could be the handset, neither are official, unlike the one that surfaced today. In a Sony event invitation,

This is the HTC One Mini

DNP HTC

The leaks are true: HTC’s rumored M4 is indeed the One Mini. We know because a trusted source in possession of the “petite” 4.3-inch handset has fed us a direct image, while also confirming some specs. From what we’ve seen, the few renders and blurrycam shots that bled out earlier this year appear to be dead-on. The One Mini’s a more approachable (and affordable) version of the One — both inside and out — with some notable differences. For starters, its screen size has been reduced to 4.3-inches, much like Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 Mini, making it much more palm-friendly and deserving of the Mini moniker. But we don’t yet have a clear handle on its resolution. Certainly, the Mini’s not going to ape the One’s dazzling 1080p Super LCD 3 display — what’s more likely is that this “smaller” screen is of the 720p variety.

The Mini still features the much-lauded metallic unibody HTC ushered in with the One and Beats Audio branding on the back, although now its front face is ringed with plastic. The consequence of that latter design change should aid in reducing its weight, but it also means you’re getting considerably more bezel than on the One. There’s also no IR blaster on the device, so you won’t be able to use it as a handy replacement for your tv remote. And cosmetically, that’s about as far as the Mini strays from the One.

Much could change by the time the One Mini is released later this year — should be sometime in Q3 — but for the moment, the handset’s running a Sensed-up version of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with BlinkFeed on board. Specific details on the UltraPixel cameras weren’t made available to us, but we do know the rear module’s capable of full HD video recording and Zoe share capture. As for the processor inside, our source provided us with a few benchmark results, pegging the CPU as a 1.4GHz dual-core setup — presumably, a Snapdragon 400 just like the HTC First. That’s about the extent of what we have on the One Mini. For anything further, you’ll just have to wait for more leaks or HTC’s official announcement later this fall.
