We’ve been hearing a lot about BlackBerry’s rumored A10, which has recently been dubbed the Z30 after getting an unofficial name change. We’ve seen photos of the new device, but a hands-on video of the device has been leaked, and it marks the latest time that we’re seeing the Z30 in all its glory inside […]
Rumors have been popping up recently about what to expect in the next-generation Kindle Fire tablet series, and full specs for the next-gen entry-level Kindle Fire have been leaked, but it’s nothing too special, other than that the new entry-level Kindle Fire will have the same internal guts as the current entry-level Kindle Fire HD. […]
Though the changes appear to be few, the next-generation casings for both the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 appear to be hitting the factory floor with bits and pieces all their own. This double dose of Apple hardware – if it does indeed prove to be legitimate, shows the iPad family to be […]
Android device microphones can be remotely activated for spying, says former gov official
Posted in: Today's ChiliFollowing Edward Snowden’s NSA-related leaks, government intrusion into one’s data via the technology that permeates our lives has been a hot-topic issue (again), spurring other leaks and anonymous statements of arguably less grand proportions. One such example is a report by The Wall Street Journal this evening, which spoke to former U.S. officials and sources […]
We can’t say we’re too surprised, but BlackBerry seems to be sending out beta invites for a select number of users in order test BlackBerry Messenger on iOS and Android. The invites are rolling out today, and if you’re thinking about joining in on the beta fun, it looks like you’re a bit too late, […]
Tomorrow will bring the official unveiling of the Moto X, which has been one of the most talked-about unreleased phones for the past couple of months. However, while we’re still a day away from the revealing, that doesn’t mean leaks will magically stop. In fact, the most-recent leak reveals that that Moto X will support
In addition to having appeared today in the FCC, the next Sony Xperia release in codename “Honami” has appeared this morning in a series of leaked photos aside the Sony Xperia Z. This device is set to out-do the Xperia Z in several ways, one of which in its camera at 20-megapixels, complete with a brand new set of features in its software interface. The Honami, also known as the “i1″ will be coming without the full-waterproofing of its predecessor.
Honami appears in these images with a slightly longer body and what appears to be an ever-so-slightly thinner frame. The Xperia Z shares the same size display at 5-megapixels and likely 1080p once again, here also taking on a slightly more traditional approach with a black frame around a black body. That’s the silver-framed Xperia Z, mind you, and there’s a fully-purple edition out in the USA as well with T-Mobile.
This set of leaks includes a rather strange Augmented Reality mode for the camera as well. Here you’ll see a dinosaur walking across this devices’ display amongst several palm trees, the camera able to superimpose said dinosaur over the photo taken of an office building’s interior.
There’s also a series of effects including Superior Auto – a favorite of reviewers of the Xperia Z, and Social Live. With Social Live you’re able to broadcast the photos you’re taking to a network that’ll allow cross-downloading between devices on the same network. You’ll be working with Timeshift Burst as well, this allowing to you choose the best photo of a large series of snaps taken in quick succession.
Perhaps most interesting is Info-eye, this according to this UI allowing you to “find more information about what you see in the viewfinder!” We’re assuming this will work with bar codes and readable text through Google, but we’ll see!
The Sony Xperia 1i will quite likely be coming with an upgraded processor, somewhere in the region of Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 as is found in the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 as is found in the Sony Xperia Z Ultra as well as many other next-generation devices, complete with multi-region LTE.

Let’s face it. The new Nexus 7 is no longer a surprise. We’ve already seen it
We’re just a week away from Motorola unveiling its heavily-rumored Moto X smartphone, and the speculation is greater than ever. Leaks haven’t stopped either, which is why we’re seeing another one today in the form of the new phone’s camera user interface that includes a whole new look, as well as a focus on swipe gestures.
Leaked screenshots obtained by Android Police reveal what the Moto X’s camera UI will look like, and it’s a lot different from anything we’ve seen before, which doesn’t come as a huge surprise to us. Much of the stuff we’ve seen with the Moto X suggest that the interface will look mostly stock, but the camera UI seems to have gotten some focused attention.
For starters, the camera app relies heavily on swipe gestures, and this is mostly because it’s a very minimalistic interface. All of the settings are hidden off to the sides and are brought in using swipe gestures when they’re needed. Swiping from the left brings up a spinning carousel of camera settings that you can play around with, and swiping from the other direction brings up the gallery.
The screenshots also confirm that you’ll be able to quickly open up the Moto X camera app with two twists of the wrist, which seems a little weird, we’ll have to wait and see how that’ll work exactly. The settings include a host of different options to play around with, including setting the flash, and taking slo-mo video, as well as HDR photos.
As for the shutter button, the camera app allows you to snap a photo by just tapping anywhere on the screen, and holding down on the screen will allow for rapid fire. You can also use the digital zoom by swiping up or down on the screen to bring the camera closer in on a subject. Essentially, there’s nothing getting in the way in the viewfinder when snapping a photo, which seems like a good idea, and we’re excited to see what else Motorola has in store for us come August 1.

We might have already heard quite a few ramblings of the next-generation Nexus 7, but nothing is quite as solid as a leaked retail store circular ad. A leaked Best Buy ad shows off the next-generation Nexus 7, revealing not only its $229 price tag, but also the 1920×1200 full HD display gracing the front of the tablet.
The ad also notes that the $229 price tag will get you 16GB of storage, meaning that the 32GB version will cost just a little bit more, possibly in the $249 or $279 range. Sadly, Best Buy is always pretty vague about advertising products in their weekly ads, so we don’t get treated with any more details than those little tidbits.
However, the Best Buy circular mentions that the tablet will be “available Tuesday.” Seeing as how Google is holding an event on Wednesday this week, the ad could be referring to July 30 as the official launch date of the refreshed Google slate. However, the distribution date for the leaked circular isn’t known, so whatever date “Tuesday” is, is still unknown, but it’s said the circular will begin running on July 28, so we have no reason to not think that the new Nexus 7 will be arriving on July 30.
The refreshed Nexus 7 is also said to be getting an update to Android 4.3, and will come with dual cameras, as well as wireless charging, which we’ve already seen on Google’s latest Nexus 4 handset. The tablet is also said to be sporting a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM paired up. Exact specs aren’t known, obviously, but it seems this new Nexus 7 refresh will be a big one, while keeping the same 7-inch screen and mostly the same body style.
