Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70 unveiled

There are digital cameras, and then there are digital cameras. It is quite a large topic to cover, and so, there are just too many different branches to cover in a single article. Still, the digital camera market is pretty much broken down into three segments – the compact digital camera, the DSLR, and the Micro Four Thirds market. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70 can be said to occupy the first category, although it would be in a pretty niche segment, too, as optically speaking, the DMC-FZ70 is capable of delivering an amazing 20mm wide-angle to 1,200mm (60X) long zoom. Not only that, with F2.8-5.9 lens brightness, it does not matter whether you are shooting video or photos, either one will appear bright even under low light conditions.

Apart from that, the inclusion of optical image stabilization would assure that both long zoom photos and videos will remain sharp and free from blur, while the DMC-FZ70 also delivers amazing Full HD 1080/60i video recording capability, courtesy of Panasonic’s experience as a world leader in professional broadcast video. Panasonic has also thrown in a unique microphone which will do away with ambient noise and wind sound thanks to the stunning clarity of Dolby Digital. In fact, this special microphone can even zoom with the optical zoom in order to zero in on the audio coming from your subject in a more precise manner.

Underneath the hood, you will find a new 16.1-megapixel high sensitivity MOS sensor and Venus engine that delivers high speed response and high picture quality, even in high sensitivity recording. This does ensure it is able to perform high speed burst shooting at 9 fps in full resolution, letting you capture the most fleeting shooting opportunities together thanks to a speedy start-up time of under a second. Unfortunately for the world, pricing and availability details remain to be seen, and we hope that it will be easy on the pockets!

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ70 16.1MP super zoom unveiled and up for pre-order

Panasonic has unveiled its latest digital camera, the super-long zoom LUMIX DMC-FZ70 featuring 60x optical zoom and a zoom microphone to match. With the zoom microphone, Panasonic aims to improve the audio quality that results from using the integrated mic, and comes alongside a host of other features. The Lumix is up for pre-order now, with its release date being unspecified.

Panasonic 1

The optical zoom measures in at 20mm to 1200mm, making it – in conjunction with a 20mm ultra wide angle lens – both the longest and widest zoom offering in its class. Says Panasonic, when this latest Lumix is at 20mm, the resulting images capture almost 140-percent of a wider angle than what you get with a 24mm lens offering. Tossing digital zoom into the mix, the maximum is boosted to the equivalent of 120x.

Video is another area where Panasonic seems to have focused for the DMC-FZ70, with it offering full 1920 x 1080 HD video recording in MP4 and AVCHD format options. Auto focus comes in the form of Power Optical Image Stabilizer with Active Mode, with there also being a 5 frames-per-second burst mode and 2 frames-per-second when using AF Tracking. And rounding that out is a 3 shot burst at 9 frames-per-second for particularly rapid moving objects.

The 16.1-megapixel sensor is a High Sensitivity MOS offering, which is said to reduce noise by between 10- and 15-percent, as well as boosting the image quality over previous Lumix models. All of this is powered by the Venus Engine, and works alongside several software features, among them being Retouch and Creative Controls

Users will have access to a 13 Creative Panorama effects, 15 Creative Control effects, and 15 Creative Retouch effects. Among these different effects are things like standard filters we’ve come to expect: Retro, Sepia, Dynamic Monochrome, Miniature Effect, Soft Focus, One Point Color, and more. Panasonic advises that the soft focus feature can’t be used with video, however.

Price at $399 USD.

Panasonic Lumix DMCFZ70 superzoom packs 161MP, massive 60x optical zoom

The 600mm zooming capabilities of Panasonic’s DMC-FZ200 superzoom not quite up to your telephoto needs? The company’s added a new sibling to its Lumix lineup as a followup to the FZ60, dubbed the FZ70. Also known as the Lumix FZ72 in the UK, it’s packed with a 16.1MP sensor and a 20mm lens that’s capable of 60x zoom (1200mm), besting both the FZ200 and FZ60 (24x zoom). That said, you’re looking at a variable aperture of F2.8-5.9 and HD video recording that tops out at 60FPS for 1080i and 720p resolutions. A powered optical image stabilizer is onboard to help you keep things steady for stills and movies, while built-in Dolby-certified microphones capture stereo sound. The FZ70’s Venus image engine lets burst-mode lovers shoot at 9FPS, although you’ll be capped at three photos per use. As you’d expect, creative filters and an intelligent auto mode are included and some of the existing Lumix tele-converters, flashes and filters can hookup with this camera. There’s no word on price or retail availability just yet, but zoom past the break for more details in the meantime.

Panasonic gussies up Lumix DMC-XS1 with 10 different designs

DNP Panasonic releases its $200 LUMIX DMCXS in 10 different color designs

It’s that time of year again — the gadgets of CES are finally starting to march into stores. Today’s newest catalog item comes from Panasonic in the form of the 16.1-megapixel Lumix DMC-XS1 compact. Equipped with a 24mm wide-angle 5x optical zoom lens, this $200 point-and-shoot is aimed at people looking to move beyond the hazy world of cellphone photography. Unlike some high-end smartphone cameras the DMC-XS1’s 1/2.33-inch CCD sensor is limited to 720p video capture at 30 fps. So, it likely won’t win over the hardcore paparazzo, but this compact’s 10 flashy design options may manage to score some points with fledging shutterbugs.

Panasonic launches LumixLF1 compact

Panasonic‘s just unveiled the 12-megapixel Lumix DMC-LF1 compact for fans of high-end compacts like Canon’s S110 who may not want to snap with a smartphone camera. But the social set will still be able to share images to their handset or tablet thanks to the LF1’s built-in WiFi with NFC pairing and included app. Meanwhile, most cellphones definitely can’t compete with the 1/1.7-inch, 12-megapixel CMOS sensor and 28-200mm equivalent f2.0-5.9 Leica zoom lens. Other specs include 1,920/60i video with AVCHD and MP4 recording, POWER OIS, a 200K EVF, a variety of shooting modes like panorama, and full manual control. There’s no set arrival date, but it’ll run a hefty $500 or so — perhaps a hard sell against certain photo-clever handsets.
