Nissan Offers Free And Easy Charging For LEAF Cars

Nissan Offers Free And Easy Charging For LEAF CarsDriving an electric car has its fair share of advantages – electricity is a whole lot more affordable than a full tank of gas, not to mention electric cars have no emissions that will clog up the earth’s atmosphere with poisonous gases. The thing is, a gas station is whole lot more common than an electric vehicle charging point, and Nissan intends to encourage the uptake in their Nissan LEAF electric car by expanding on its successful “No Charge to Charge” promotion that will see the automobile manufacturer offer two years of free public charging with the purchase or lease of a new Nissan LEAF.

Nissan’s Smart Rearview Mirror Relies On Cameras

One can’t imagine driving a car without a rear view mirror, it is absolutely essential. Though sometimes the driver might find his or her view obstructed, particularly if there’s stuff in the rear hatch area or a really tall person is sitting in the back. Nissan aims to remove all of these nuisances through its new Smart Rearview Mirror, a system that incorporates a traditional mirror as well as an integrated LCD which displays feeds from a high resolution 1.3 megapixel camera on the rear.

Nissan LEAF Battery Survives Abuse In Video

What do you think about the Nissan LEAF as an electric vehicle? We did take it out for a spin a few years back, but have not owned one until now. One of the major drawbacks of an electric vehicle would be its battery power, considering how the technology is still in its relative infancy compared to the normal gas-powered engines, how long can a battery last, and how affordable is it to replace if something goes wrong? Not only that, there are also battery durability issues to think about. You would most probably cringe at the content of the YouTube video above, where a Nissan LEAF battery cell went through a real world torture test, including a blowtorch attack as well as a flurry of screwdriver stabs.

The Car for the Russian Zombiepocalypse: Maximum Maxima

If I had to fight off hordes of zombies, I’d want a good car that could quickly escape, and could also keep me out of harm’s way from the biters. And while the forecast has yet to be cloudy with a chance of walkers, it’s still never too early to prepare for our eventual demise at the hands of these mutants. These guys in Russia seem to have a good head start.

This insane vehicle apparently started out as a Nissan Maxima, but with a little nip here and tuck there in some 3D modeling software – and a whole lot of metal bending and welding, it sure doesn’t look like a Nissan anymore. Actually, if you stand back and squint really hard, it looks kind of like a massive VW Beetle.

Those giant tires and its 1.7 ton curb weight should be perfect for driving over mounds of zombies lining the road, if not right over piles of abandoned vehicles on the roads.

The vehicle was posted for sale for 1.5 million rubles (~$41,689 USD) last year, but I don’t know if it ever sold. Guess I’ll just have to build my own.

Nissan Rear-view Mirror Can Switch to Rear Camera View: Who’s the Nearest of Them All?

Nissan just made the rear-view mirror twice as useful. Its Smart mirror neatly hides an LCD monitor, which can display live video from a camera mounted at the rear of a vehicle at the flick of a switch.

The 4:1 monitor and 1.3mp camera should come in handy not just when your cargo or passengers are blocking your view, but also when your rear window gets dusty, wet or fogged up.

I think it’s a great idea, but as other folks have pointed out, it might be better if the switch is installed somewhere that’s closer to the driver. Nissan will offer the Smart rear-view mirror starting this Spring in Japan and in the rest of the world starting next year.

Nissan's Smart Rearview Mirror Isn't Blinded By Passengers or Cargo

Have you ever been hesitant to over-pack a vehicle with luggage or passengers because it would obscure the sightline for your rearview mirror? Nissan’s Smart rearview mirror solves that problem by alternately displaying a live video feed from a camera mounted on the back of the vehicle.
