Nokia Lumia 1320 Spotted At The FCC
Posted in: Today's ChiliBack in October, the Nokia Lumia 1320 was announced. The handset is another 6” smartphone by Nokia but unlike its sibling, the Lumia 1520, the Lumia 1320 will be slightly lower specced, meaning that it will be a tad more affordable for those who don’t really see the need for the latest or greatest hardware in their phones. The handset has recently made its way through the FCC but based on what we can see, the handset will feature the 3, 7, and 20 LTE bands which aren’t used in the USA, and will also lack AWS support, indicating that it will most likely be headed to Europe or international markets, rather than the US for now.
Based on Nokia’s announcement at that time, the Lumia 1320 is expected to head to countries such as China, Vietnam, India, and Europe, and is expected to cost around $339 before local taxes. For those who might have forgotten about the Lumia 1320, the handset will feature a 6” 720p HD (instead of 1080p Full HD) dispay, and will be powered by a dual-core processor (rather than a quad-core found on the Lumia 1520). It will also pack a 5MP rear-facing camera and will come with 8GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD.

Back in the day, Nokia happened to be the 800lbs gorilla where mobile phones were concerned, and it seemed as though they could not put a foot wrong at all, being the main trendsetter and all that jazz. How the tables have turned over the years, but at least, they are doing a whole lot better than BlackBerry, as the latter seemed to have cornered just a few markets worldwide, dying a slow death. One thing that you have to hand over to Nokia for doing well, and that is the build quality of their phones, so much so that some classic handsets like the Nokia 3310 has become a famous meme breeding ground.
In one ad from Nokia, it depicts how Nokia has put through its low end Asha range to a whole lot of beatings and basically, a tough existence for any smartphone to follow through and emerge unscathed. I guess that the promo video has a certain element of truth to a degree, as Nokia has shown in the past how they used durable materials and manufacturing practices to churn out a longer lasting chassis in the long run. What are some of your most memorable moments with a Nokia handset, and do you agree that they generally last longer than other makes?

After an approval at the hands of the United States Department of Justice, the Microsoft acquisition of Nokia‘s hardware and services departments has been given the thumbs-up by European Union antitrust regulators. This is the last large approval the companies needed before they moved forward with the acquisition – they’ll now be free to roll […]
Another hurdle is out of Redmond’s way to close its acquisition of Nokia’s devices and services division. The European Commission approved the deal today, saying that the overlap of the activities of both companies is minimal and strong rivals such as Apple and Samsung will continue to compete with the merged entity. European Commission’s approval comes merely days after the U.S. Department of Justice approved the deal from its end. With Nokia shareholder approval already in the bag, there’s not much that can jeopardize the deal in any way now.
When Microsoft announced its decision to acquire Nokia’s division for $7.17 billion, it detailed its intention to close the transaction in early 2014. Given how smoothly all regulatory hurdles have been crossed, it certainly looks like Microsoft will be able to meet the timeline it set out. Upon completion of the deal, Microsoft will take residence in the once iconic Nokia House. Former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop will head back to Redmond where he will lead an expanded devices team, which would include smartphones, Surface tablets and the Xbox console. There have been rumors that Elop is being considered for the CEO slot at Microsoft, though no official announcement has been made as yet.

When it comes to digital photography, we all know that our smartphones cannot really hold a candle to a dedicated digital camera, what more a DSLR. However, the folks over at Nokia have been working pretty hard to overcome that particular notion among us consumers, especially with their most recent flagship, the Nokia Lumia 1020. After all, when the Nokia Lumia 1020 happens to be the most popular Nokia camera on Flickr, it does go some lengths to let you know just how good it is, right? So much so that celebrity photographer Joy Marie Smallwood relied on a Nokia Lumia 1020 to shoot a wedding which recently happened at Capella Pedregal in Cabo, Mexico.
Joy Marie shared, “The quality of the photos we took at the Cabo wedding using the Lumia 1020 were crisp with a great depth of colour and totally exceeded our expectations. The 41-megapixel sensor is pretty outstanding for a camera phone.” We are pretty impressed with the results shown by the Nokia Lumia 1020, but I still think it would be best to rely on a full frame DSLR to capture everything about your big day right, how about you? If you love experimenting, then use the Lumia 1020 as a back up camera for the second photographer.

Nokia’s New Video Highlights How The Lumia 1520 Was Made Using Recycled CDs
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe Nokia Lumia 1520 is the Finnish company’s latest handset, and also its biggest with a display measuring 6” in size. Just like the rest of Nokia’s lineup, save for the Lumia 925, the Lumia 1520 features a polycarbonate body. Some have criticized Nokia’s choice of using plastics, instead of more “premium” materials like glass and aluminum, but it turns out that Nokia’s choice has to do with sustainability as well. The company has recently released a video on YouTube in which it illustrates how Nokia has given CDs a new lease on life by recycling them, transforming them into polycarbonate, which is then used in devices like the Lumia 1520.
For those who are particular about sustainability and using conflict-free materials, we suppose this could be a pretty important deciding factor. We’re not sure if this is a make or break decision for customers, but it’s still nice to know that the company you’re buying into cares about the environment. In any case if you have a minute or two to spare, you can check out the rather cute animation in the video above.
