Olympus Stylus SP-100 Superzoom Camera With Dot-Sight Tracking Announced

sp-100-2Hot on the heels of the announcement of the Olympus OMD E-M10 and the Stylus Tough TG-850, Olympus has announced yet another camera for those who are fans of super zoom cameras. Dubbed the Stylus SP-100, this is the latest super zoom camera from the Japanese company, and apart from being able to zoom in pretty far (a 24-1200mm lens), it comes with built-in dot-sight that allows the photographer to easily track moving subjects even when zoomed in. For those who ever tried to follow the action when using zoom, you guys know how difficult it can get, so to have dot-sight tracking, it just made things a whole lot better.

Other features of the SP-100 include a focus limiter that allows the photographer to determine what distance the camera can focus at, a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, a TruePic VII processor, and built-in lens shift image stabilization, a mechanism that will reduce camera shake even at the highest zoom. Once again if you have ever tried to move around while in zoom mode, you know that the slightest movement will result in a lot of shake, so the lens shift image stabilization should be able to correct that. Apart from the zoom features, the SP-100 will also come with a 3” LCD display and video recording capabilities that can capture Full HD videos at 60fps. It will be priced at $399.99 and will be available in March 2014.

Olympus OMD E-M10 Has Been Officially Launched

olympus_omd_em10_01After a period of leaked images and rumors, Olympus has officially announced their latest camera in the form of the OMD E-M10. Many had speculated that CP+ could be when Olympus would make their announcement, but we guess they decided to announce it a little earlier instead which would make sense since CP+ could see their announcements overshadowed by other companies. In any case the camera’s specs appear to be pretty much in line with what we have been hearing in the rumors, which means that we can look forward to a 16MP Live MOS sensor, the same one found in the OMD E-M5, and a TruePic VII image processor which was borrowed from the OMD E-M1.

Other features of the camera includes a high speed electronic viewfinder, a 3-inch LCD display that can be tiled, 3-axis image stabilization, fast AF, a built-in popup flash and will sport a metal body, which does offer a more premium and sturdy feel compared to plastic. For those interested in getting their hands on the camera, Olympus has announced that it will be made available come early February 2014 and there will be a body-only and a lens kit version to choose from. For those not interested in any lenses, the body-only version will cost £529.99, while the version with the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens will cost £699.99.

OLYMPUS SP-100 Is a 50X Superzoom Camera With a Red Dot Sight Like a Gun

If point-and-shoot cameras have a future it’s all about zoom, and Olympus just innovated the super long super zooms with a badly needed addition we didn’t even know they needed: A red dot zoom like a sniper rifle. That sounds horrible and murderous, but it’s really just good for killing photos.

    Olympus OMD E-M10 Photos Leaked

Olympus OMD E M10 Photos LeakedWe have been hearing the rumors that Olympus has been working on the OMD E-M10 camera which is said to be announced in the near future, and now thanks to the folks at Digicame-Info, photos of the device have made their way online. Based on what we see, and assuming they are accurate, it looks like the OMD E-M10 will be sharing the same design philosophy of the OMD E-M5, which is one that seems a bit retro/vintage which we’re sure will appeal to some photographers who might be able to appreciate that kind of look.

As for its specs, naturally Olympus has not confirmed anything yet but based on the rumors, the OMD E-M10 will sport an EVF, built-in flash, a 16MP sensor which is the same as the E-M5 but without PDAF, a TruePic VII processor similar to the one found in the E-M1, 3 axis stabilization, and will be launched with a new compact zoom kit lens. In terms of pricing, the rumors are saying that the OMD E-M10 will be priced at around $760 for the body-only, while the version that comes bundled with the kit lens will retail for $900. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but it is possible that the camera will be announced at CP+, so check back with us then for the details.
