Panasonic 65-inch Smart VIERA WT600 Ultra HD TV (eyes-on)

Eyeson with Panasonic's 65inch Smart VIERA WT600 UHD TV

Panasonic’s 65-inch Smart VIERA WT600 UHD TV may have hit the market as a “me too” 4K TV, but it sure does look nice — even when placed right next to some of the competition. Thanks to its embedded H.264 decoder, we saw it run 4K content straight off an SDXC card and streamed from the internet (after about 10-15 seconds of loading). Interestingly, while the TV supports the fresh and still-unfamiliar HDMI 2.0 spec, a good chunk our demo session was done over DisplayPort 1.2a to show the display’s ability to pump out 60fps 4K content — unlike existing competitors, which cap out at 30fps. Aside from faster frame rates, it was apparent in our viewing session that the out-of-box settings on a Sony XBR-65X900A ($5,499) had overly boosted reds, while both it and a Samsung F9000 ($5,000) dropped in for the demo showed pronounced haloing. Now we just want to see all of these TVs running 4K content fed from a player using HDMI 2.0 — whenever that’s fully standardized.

Panasonic Toughpad UT-MB5 4k Tablet

Panasonic Toughpad UT MB5 4k Tablet[CEATEC 2013] At the beginning of this month, we talked about the Panasonic ToughPad UT-MB5, a 20” tablet that definitely targets professionals who work with high resolution images, and yet do not want something that is all too fragile. Is such a compromise actually possible? Apparently yes, and over here on the CEATEC floor, it makes perfect sense for Panasonic to show it off in their home market, and we could not miss the opportunity to have a look at it. If I had to sum it up in just one word, “stunning” would be it.

Texas Motor Speedway’s ‘Big Hoss TV’ will be the world’s largest HD screen

Texas Motor Speedway's 'Big Hoss' will be the world's largest HD screen next year

You didn’t think Texas would actually let Charlotte hold on to the title of world’s largest HD screen, did you? Texas Motor Speedway announced that in 2014 it will take the wraps off of “Big Hoss TV,” a 218-by-94.6 foot (20,633 square foot) 1080p display manufactured by Panasonic. That’s bigger than the 16,000 square-foot HD screen at Charlotte Motor Speedway, as well as the massive screens located in Houston and Dallas. As the track’s handy infographic points out, it has 9,000-plus square feet on the Cowboys’ board, it’s bigger than the Lincoln Memorial and will weigh more than seven elephants when it’s done. Just like the CMS screen it will be used to display live video, instant replays, stats and more during races, viewable to every frontstretch seat in the house (those seated on the backstretch will be greeted by a mere 18-by-24-foot 1080p display). Construction begins this fall after the Texas 500 NASCAR race, and it’s scheduled to be ready in time for the race weekend of April 3rd, 2014.

Deezer music service expands as it launches on Philips and Panasonic Smart TVs

Deezer music service expands as it launches on Philips and Panasonic Smart TVs

Deezer’s currently competing with the likes of Spotify and Rdio to win over the streaming souls of the world, so it knows how important it is to be available in as many countries and on as many platforms as possible. Taking that into account, the music service announced it has inked a deal with Panasonic and Philips which will bring its web-based tunes to Smart TVs made by those companies, similarly to what it did with other manufacturers earlier this year. What’s more, Deezer also (quietly) updated its app on LG and Samsung television sets with improvements to search, an easier way to manage the music library and an option to access your friends’ playlists. Of course, this all only applies to places where Deezer is present — in other words, folks here in the US of A need not to power on their Smart TV and look for the app. One day, perhaps.

Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MB5 is first 20” tablet with 4K resolution display in the world

panasonic-toughpadI am quite sure that by now, many of us would have set our sights on Apple unveiling a new iPhone, or perhaps even two if plenty of pre-release photos of a budget-oriented iPhone 5C were to be believed, in addition to the possibility of a new tablet. Well, regardless of what tablet Apple announces later today, if any, I am convinced that it will not be able to hold a candle to the size as well as resolution of the Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MB5 tablet. After all, this bad boy is touted to be the first 20” tablet in the world that sports 4K resolution, now how about that for some truly eye popping visuals?

The Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MB5 tablet was specially developed for sales, marketing and media professionals as part of their high end and new Ultra-High Definition Toughpad range. Make no mistake about it, this was never meant to be a commercial tablet for the masses, but rather, it will be a specialist performance model that is ideal for 3D modelling and CAD applications, and would come in handy when it is used in the hands of technical professionals such as engineers, architects and designers.

Your eyes will appreciate the 4K resolution which is said to be over four times better than HD at 3840 x 2560 pixels, and the name itself, the Toughpad 4K UT-MB5, also lends a rather obvious clue that this is going to be one business-minded yet rugged, portable tablet which will be able to break new ground in digital viewing with 4K resolution, collaborative working with touchscreen capabilities as well as feature a special Panasonic Electronic Touch Pen for pin-point accuracy and annotation. Other hardware specifications include a 15:10 aspect ratio and 230 pixels per inch, which makes it more than ideal to display large images, A3 drawings, brochures and multimedia. It will run on an Intel Core i5 processor, has up to 8GB RAM, and boasts of NVIDIA GeForce graphics, tipping the scales at 2.35kg and measuring 12.5mm thin.

Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT MB5 IntroducedHere we are with yet another tablet that has been introduced at IFA 2013, and it would be the Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MB5 to take center stage. Touted to be the world’s first 20” tablet that sports a 4K resolution display, it was specially designed for sales, marketing and media professionals, being part of a groundbreaking new Ultra-High Definition Toughpad range. One thing is for sure, this is a specialist performance model, which makes it perfect for 3D modelling and CAD applications, and technical professionals including engineers, architects and designers should find the Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MB5 worth a purchase when it arrives sometime in the first half of 2014.
