Back in 1963, a Czech sci-fi film called Ikarie XB-1 told an epic story—set 200 years in the future—of an eponymous spaceship that went in search of a mysterious, unknown planet. This month, the fateful spacecraft has been recreated on the top floor of NYC’s New Museum
If you take a picture of a car or house key, could you use that picture to get a copy made? Yes—quite trivially, actually. I have a folder on my laptop that is filled with photos people have taken of their keys and put onto the internet. Every few weeks, I take some idle time and associate one of those keys to an address (lot of Googling, mostly) and then I decode the cuts in the key.
Presenting the money shot: during a massive storm in Dubai yesterday, photographer Michael Shainblum captured lightning zapping Burj Khalifa, aka the tallest building in the world.
Shooting Challenge: Fisheye
Posted in: Today's ChiliFish are lucky. Because they get to see 180 degrees or so at once. Photographers can do the same using fisheye lenses (or cheating it with a filter). So for this week’s Shooting Challenge, we’re all going fishing.
It’s still so cold throughout the Midwest and Northeast that roughly 80 percent of the Great Lakes have frozen over for the first time in decades. These incredible shots of frozen formations on the surface of Lake Superior, captured by The Cookery Maven’s Mary Dougherty, capture the region’s sense of frigid desolation.

The Shortcut-S is an entire keyboard of buttons that will make your life easier

Once you’ve become more proficient with using keyboard shortcuts, it’s painful to watch others trudge along without them. If they’re a friend, it’s your duty to make their lives easier by teaching them the simple way of doing things. Should it be a family member, you might as well soak up the praise for what they will likely view as technological genius (seriously, you’d think everyone would at least know copy and paste by now).
If you work with programs such as Photoshop or video editing software, you know fully well that shortcuts are your friend. Even with their aid, it’s sometimes difficult to get things done correctly. If you’re also not very good with remembering which is which, then you can create a lot of really terrible problems for yourself. The Shortcut-S Keyboard may look overwhelming, but would make the use of shortcuts on a regular keyboard look like taking the long way around.
This is a 319-key keyboard that will put every shortcut you could imagine in your field of vision. They’re color coded for different functions, and have icons that will be easy to recognize for those who often use Photoshop. There will be options for other program overlays in the future, but Photoshop is the only one available currently. It’s a bit large, but is also very thin, meaning it can still fit into your bag though it might jut out a bit. This will cost you anywhere from $89-99, and is currently a crowdfunding project.
Available for crowdfunding on Kickstarter, found via Technabob
