We’re used to participating in Christie’s auctions as mere spectators, gawking at items like the Maharaja of Patiala’s banqueting service or the original Apple 1. But this week, Christie’s is offering up a collection of National Geographic’s most iconic shots—and they’re surprisingly affordable.

Sometimes photographers amaze us with their ability to uniquely reflect the world around us and get a look at it from a different angle. Other times, they depict images so disgusting or banal that it’s impossible to understand why so many consider their photographs masterpieces. The art market is inscrutable, especially when it comes to photography. The following ten photos, ranked by worth, sold for millions of dollars at auctions over the past few years.

Canon hasn’t been at the center of rumors lately, but it’s said that the company is working on an extremely impressive camera that’s almost too good to be true. Canon is reportedly testing a new DSLR with a pro-sized body similar to that of the 1D X, but what’s most impressive is that the camera boasts a 75MP sensor.
According to Photography Bay, sources are saying that testing of the new camera is underway right now, and while the camera will be similar to the 1D X, this unnamed DSLR will have a higher frame rate than the 1D X, and it’s rear display will be “shockingly high resolution”.
It’s also said that the camera may be announced later this year, with a 2014 release time window planned. However, it’s important to note that just because Canon is testing a camera, doesn’t mean that it’ll actually make it to the market, but we have no reason to believe that Canon wouldn’t release an extremely-high megapixel camera at some point.
Of course, we’ve heard rumblings in the past about the Canon EOS 1S, which is said to pack a 47MP sensor, so we’re guessing that Canon’s next-generation camera will most likely be just that. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if a 75MP camera eventually was released at some point in the future.
Megapixels aren’t everything, though, as we’ve seen with smartphone cameras, but a 75MP sensor would make for some high-resolution shots. We’re taking this rumor with a grain of salt, but also with a sense that one day we’ll see a camera with that kind of performance hit the market at some point.

As camera rumors go, this one’s pretty insane: Photography Bay is claiming that a reliable source has told it that Canon is testing "a pro-sized body like the 1D X" which packs a sensor with over 75 megapixels. Which: wow.

This week it would appear that the team at Haselblad have been working on a custom modification of none other than the Sony RX100 according to several leaked images. This run of customizations would have a series of odd – and awesome – new grips for the machine while the outer body gains its own bit of Hasselblad-unique flare. Included in this lineup is a Padouk wood grip, carbon-fibre, Walnut, Wenge, Olive, and Mahogany.
If you planned on working with the Sony RX100 for quite a while after you’d purchased it and want to make a day of it with a custom body the likes of which you’d only be able to get at this massive price-range, Hasselblad has your back. With prices expected – no confirmed, mind you, expected – to range between $1,600 and $3,200, you’ll be getting a bit more exotic right out of the box.
According to PhotoRumors, the big H up front is set to continue to be a staple of the customized series. The series is also set to be released somewhere around the 26th of July – soon – and the major differences are quite likely to remain aesthetic – exterior on the whole.
You’ll see too that the lenses keep the same name – no ZEISS update here. At this point doctored and enhanced photos are so ubiquitous that we tend to assume any photo we’re looking at has gone through some type of processing. And programs like Photoshop are always releasing new tools

Hasselblad’s strategy of sprucing up Sony cameras must be paying off — that would explain Photo Rumors‘ apparent leak of the Stellar, a Hasselblad take on the RX100. The already high-end compact cam will reportedly switch to a tan metallic body and offer several choices of exotic grip material, including carbon fiber and padouk wood. There’s no mention of functional upgrades over the Sony original, though. As with the Lunar, we’re more likely to see a price hike instead — Photo Rumors claims the Stellar should launch on July 26th for between $1,600 to $3,200, which would limit it to particularly well-heeled photographers.
