Earlier we had reported on the Ricoh WG-20, a rugged camera that will come at an affordable price of $199.95. Granted there were some features that we thought could be a little bit better, but then again if saving money is what you’re after, then we reckon the WG-20 should be able to get the job done and then some. However if you’re looking for a rugged camera with slightly more “premium” specs and don’t mind paying a little extra to have those specs, then perhaps the Ricoh WG-4 and WG-4 GPS could be of interest to you.
First of, both cameras will feature identical specs with the main difference between the WG-4 and WG-4 GPS is that the latter will come with GPS capabilities, allowing your photos to be location-tagged. It will also sport a front-facing display. Apart from that, both cameras will feature an aperture of f/2.0 and a 16MP BSI-CMOS sensor, a 25-100mm lens, and sensor-shift image stabilization. Both cameras will also come with waterproof features that will withstand water immersion up to 14m, freezeproof up to -10C, and will also be able to withstand a drop from as high as 2m. Priced at $329.95 for the WG-4 and $379.95 for the WG-4 GPS, both cameras are expected to be made available later this month.

Rugged cameras are great if you think that you will find yourself in situations where its ruggedness might come in handy. For example if you’re the sort that likes to take action photography, or cover events where they could be a lot of moving involved, or if you’re going to places like the beach or pool where there is a chance your camera could get wet, rugged cameras do come in handy then. However if you’re looking to avoid paying an arm and a leg for a higher-end rugged camera, the folks at Ricoh have recently announced the WG-20, a rugged camera that will only cost you $199.95.
In terms of specs, the WG-20 will feature a 14MP CCD sensor. It will also come equipped with a 140mm 5x optical zoom lens and will be capable of capturing video in 720p HD quality, although we would have preferred 1080p but we guess that’s one way of cutting costs. In terms of ruggedness, photographers can expect the WG-20 to withstand depths of water up to 10m, freezeproof of temperatures up to -10C, and will also be able to withstand a drop from as high as 1.5m. Available in either red or white, the Ricoh WG-20 will be available later this March.

Cameras are typically released in rather boring finishes and are usually of the black variety, but then again we guess photographers might be more interested in how it performs rather than how it looks, right? However if you fancy yourself a bit of a fashionista and would like your camera to look as good as you, you’re in luck as Ricoh as recently announced a limited edition GR camera that may or may not be right up your alley. As expected with most, if not all, special/limited edition camera releases, the hardware under the hood will remain the same, with the main difference being its look.
In the case of the GR camera, Ricoh has given it a new color, a “stylish” green, wave-patterned body, with a silver shutter button and ring cap. It will also get a redesigned camera grip which is now in black and will come with a glossy, wood-grain finish. The lens ring of the camera will be diamond-engraved with the GR product name, and the entire package will come with exclusive accessories that include a lens hood and adapter, and a brown, genuine leather case and strap. This limited edition Ricoh GR camera will be made available mid-November 2013 for the UK and will be priced at £699.99 and will be limited to 5,000 units worldwide.
