Sigma dp Quattro Cameras Announced
Posted in: Today's ChiliCameras come in all shapes and sizes, although in the case of Sigma’s dp Quattro, we have to admit that this is a shape that not many would have expected, and more importantly we have to say that we are curious as to how it might handle, although Sigma does claim that this does offer a more balanced shape. That being said, the dp Quattro is Sigma’s latest series of cameras, a trio in fact, that the company has recently announced, although pricing and availability have yet to be determined, but perhaps that is something that the company might share during CP+ 2014 which will be taking place later this week.
While each dp Quattro camera will sport different specs, each will come with the company’s latest Foveon X3 sensor, which according to Sigma, “offers an even higher level of image quality. In addition to 30% higher resolution, the volume of image data has become lighter, and it enables much faster image processing and lower current consumption.” This basically means better photos at lower battery consumption. All three dp Quattro cameras will also be powered by Sigma’s TRUE III processor which the company boasts to offer “high-definition, 3D-like photographs with outstandingly rich color detail.”

Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 APS-C zoom lens priced at a surprisingly reasonable $800
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhen we came across the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM a couple of months ago, the first thing that popped into our heads was: how much? After all, it’s the first-ever zoom lens with a constant sub f/2.0 aperture, and even those with a higher f/2.8 go for thousands of dollars. Well, luckily for camera enthusiasts everywhere, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM has a street price of $799 — less than half what we expected. Better yet, it’ll be available in “early July” in Sigma and Canon mounts, which means it’ll arrive just in time for some of you to shoot creamy bokeh shots of sunflowers in bloom. Nikon, Sony and Pentax mounts will come later in the year.

The World’s First f/1.8 Constant Aperture Lens Will Stalk Light Like Nothing Else
Posted in: Today's Chili Sigma has just announced its new 18-35mm f/1.8 lens—the world’s first ever lens to offer a fixed f/1.8 aperture throughout its zoom range. This thing will stalk light like you would not believe. More »
After opening a lot of eyes with its 30mm, F1.4 DC HSM lens, Sigma‘s just thrown another curve at the photo community with a feat that the major players haven’t managed so far: a zoom lens with a fixed, sub f/2.0 aperture. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM that launched today for Canon APS-C cameras flew under everybody’s radar and flaunts over double the light-gathering powers of the priciest zooms, which typically top out at f/2.8 — except for Olympus’ $2,300 14-35mm f/2.0 Four Thirds model. The extra third of a stop over that model may not seem like much, but the company said it needed to “solve a variety of technical challenges” to build it in order to minimize distortion and aberration. Sigma’s also promising fast autofocus via a hypersonic motor (with full-time manual override) and rubber-coated brass construction. There’s no pricing or availability yet, but don’t expect it to be cheap (think $2k plus) — after all, it’s the only game in town for now.

Sigma unveils four new Art lenses
Posted in: Today's ChiliSigma has unveiled a handful of new lenses that will join the company’s current lineup of Art lenses, which are designed to be high-quality alternatives of the competition, like Canon and Nikon lenses, but with a slightly lower cost than you would normally see with these companies. The four new lenses that Sigma announce are a 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM, 60mm f/2.8 DN, 30mm f/2.8 DN, and a 19mm f/2.8 DN.
The 30mm f/1.4 lens is designed for large-aperture APS-C format cameras, and the angle of view is equivalent to 45mm on a 35mm camera. The lens promises to deliver the highest level of image quality, thanks to a Hyper Sonic Motor for quiet, high-speed autofocusing, as well as a 9-blade rounded diaphragm that creates a bokeh effect. It also has a brass bayonet mount designed to withstand long-term use. The lens has been specifically optimized to reduce field curvature and improve focusing capabilities.
The 60mm f/2.8 DN lens is designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras, as well as Sony E-mount shooters. It has an angle of view equivalent to 120mm on the Micro Four Thirds system and 90mm on the E-mount system (35mm equivalent focal length). The lens contains Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass, which helps minimize chromatic aberration. The lens is specifically created for telephoto shooting and portrait work, and it will be available in both silver and black.
Sigma’s other new 30mm lens is a f/2.8 lens also meant for Micro Four Thirds and Sony E-mount cameras. This lens is meant for everyday shooting and is engineered as an all-around lens that you can anywhere. It’s also perfect for casual and formal portraiture, and documentary photography. The lens includes a double-sided aspherical lens that improves its optical performance.
Last, but not least, the 19mm f/2.8 DN is yet another Micro Four Thirds and E-mount lens that has an angle of view equivalent to 38mm on the Micro Four Thirds system and 28.5mm on the E-mount system (35mm equivalent focal length). This lens is designed for street shooting, as well as landscape, architecture, and studio work.
Pricing and availability on these lenses have yet to be disclosed, but Sigma says that the 30mm f/1.4 lens is expected to arrive in a couple of months, while we have yet to hear a release window for the other three lenses.
