Sony WX350 Compact Zoom Camera

Sony WX350 Compact Zoom CameraZoom cameras come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from DSLR cameras with extremely bulky zoom lenses, or DSLR-like cameras which are more compact and feature optical zoom, and then there are also the compact zoom cameras whose lens might not necessarily be as huge or as long as interchangeable lenses, but makes up for it by being slim and small enough to slip into your pocket. Sony’s DSC-WX350 is just that camera and if a small and pocketable zoom camera is what you’re after, perhaps this could be of interest to you. (more…)

    Sony a6000 Camera Officially Launched

Sony a6000 Camera Officially LaunchedSony puts an end to the a6000 (alpha 6000) camera by releasing the official specifications and information about it. First of all, keep in mind that this is an NEX-style interchangeable lens camera and not a DSLR camera. It’s not new, but if you missed it, Sony is phasing out the NEX product name, which will eventually be completely merged with the “Alpha” line of products. I know, it’s a bit confusing and I liked the NEX name, but if you do a little bit of homework, it should OK.

Sony wants to position the a6000 somewhere between NEX-5T and the DSLR a65. The goal is to provide enough quality that DSLR users would buy it because it’s compact, while at the same time targeting customers who may otherwise be shopping for a mid-range DSLR. In short, the a6000 is Sony’s sweet spot between image quality, size and price. That’s what the current NEX-6 is and therefore it will land in the same price range (around $650, body only). (more…)

Sony A6000: A Sweet Interchangeable-Lens Camera With a Touch Of Sour

Sony A6000: A Sweet Interchangeable-Lens Camera With a Touch Of Sour

Sony A6000, the latest in the company’s line of excellent sub-$1000 interchangeable-lens compacts, follows the same pattern we saw with the A5000 announced last month: Upgraded specs all around, on a slightly more advanced shooter. iPhone 6′s Front Cameras Could Be Provided By Sony

iPhone 6s Front Cameras Could Be Provided By SonyFor those unfamiliar with Sony’s work, the company has been instrumental with their efforts in helping Apple’s iPhone achieve great photos, thanks to the company providing CMOS sensors to both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s’ rear-facing cameras, but what about the front-facing camera? Front-facing cameras have never really gotten much attention as for the most part, they are used to take selfies or to video chat with someone, so as far as photo quality is concerned, it does not necessarily have to be the best of the best. That being said, according to a report from Nikkei, they claim that Apple could be turning to Sony for its front-facing cameras, which at the moment are supplied by OmniVision.

Presumably by going with Sony, Apple is looking to bump the quality of its front-facing cameras up a notch as well, although exactly how big a difference in quality we might expect remains to be seen. This alleged deal is also expected to see Sony raising its production of sensors to 200 million per year just to Apple alone, an increase of 100% from its 100 million sensors per year which the company currently provides to Apple. To help cope with the extra work load, Sony has reportedly acquired a Japanese chip producer to help increase production by 25%.

Sony Sells Waterproof MP3 Player In Bottles Of Water

Marketing is important when it comes to selling a product because not only does a product have to sell based on its own merits, but at the same time it has to have an appeal, such as a specific look, a lifestyle, and so on. Sony has done just that with their W series Walkman MP3 player, which for those unfamiliar, is a pair of earphones with an MP3 player built into them itself. This means that there will not be an additional cable that attaches to your phone, making it a pretty portable device and great for the gym, which is exactly how Sony is marketing it.

Teaming up with advertising firm, DraftFCB over in New Zealand, Sony has decided to market their W series Walkman by placing them inside of water bottles and selling them at locations such as gym and indoor pools from vending machines. Naturally the fact that it comes inside a water bottle highlights how the MP3 player is waterproof, making it ideal for gym goers who might be worried that sweat and light washing of their earphones might damage the device, and swimmers who might want to swim with their headphones on. It is admittedly a pretty clever, don’t you think?
