Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Gets Software Update

Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Gets Software UpdateSony did make an announcement over its official Twitter account that they have lined up a brand new software update for the the Sony Xperia Z1 as well as the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. This particular update will not be the Android 4.4 KitKat release that many would have been looking forward to, but I guess this is where the second law of updates apply – any update is better than no update at all, right? After all, this particular update from Sony would arrive with a bunch of new features that will hopefully be able to make a positive impact and difference to the end user.

PS Vita Slim To Arrive In UK This February 7

ps-vita-slim-ukSony claims that they have the ‘slimmest’ launch in history all lined up just last week, and we do not doubt that for a moment as we have received word that the PlayStation Vita Slim will arrive in the UK this coming February 7, although there has been no permanent US release date scheduled just yet. This is certainly different from the usual procedure that sees something released in the US first before it makes its way across the pond. Ah well, win some, lose some, no?

Sony QX10/QX100 Receives Firmware 2.0 Update

Sony-DSC-QX100-03It was just last year that Sony unveiled a pair of camera lenses called the QX10 and QX100. What made these lenses unique was the fact that they were essentially cameras, albeit in a rather odd design which was on purpose as it was meant to be clipped onto smartphone (and tablets apparently). It was essentially a supercharged version of those clip-on lenses we have seen in the past. Well the good news is that if you own either pair and were hoping that Sony might introduce some updates to it, you will be pleased to learn that Sony has since pushed the 2.0 firmware out for the QX10 and the QX100, bringing about some changes and improvements in the process.

For starters, both lenses will now be able to record video a Full HD at 30fps. Prior to this, it was only able to record 1440×1080, but with the new 16:9 format, it should allow it to match up with devices like smartphones, HDTVs, and 16:9 monitors. Sony also increased the ISO range of both lenses, with the QX10 reaching 3200 while the QX100 will go up to 12800. The QX100 also gets an added feature of being able to choose a shutter speed priority mode. If you own either the QX10 or QX100 (or maybe even both), just plug it to your computer, download the update and you’re good to go!

Sony SPA-TA1 Tablet Attachment To Launch In Japan Soon

sony-spa-ta1Earlier today, we did check out how the QX10 and the QX100 camera lenses from Sony could very well make its way to tablets – and here we are with additional information on this particular attachment. The device in question would be known as the Sony SPA-TA1 tablet attachment, where it will make its way over in the Land of the Rising Sun first before it probably would be released globally afterwards. So far, no official announcement concerning the Sony SPA-TA1 has been made other than the possibility of it arriving later this April 4th.

PlayStation Now Beta Testing Invites Sent Out

psnow-inviteWho would have thought 20 years ago that one day down the road, one’s favorite video game could eventually end up being streamed from a server somewhere halfway across the world? I certainly did not see this coming, and always figured out that cartridges and CDs were the next best thing since sliced bread (with butter on the side, of course). I guess things have really changed – and for the better, too, now that we are slowly moving away from physical media and to the cloud. Having said that, Sony has begun to roll out the private beta testing phase for PlayStation Now, where they have emailed the relevant parties with a confirmation link alongside a bunch of instructions on what will happen in the near future.

PlayStation Now Could Be Used To Stream PS1/PS2 Games

ps_now2During CES 2014, Sony announced a new PlayStation feature called PlayStation Now. Basically what this does is that it leverages the Gaikai streaming service that Sony acquired back in 2012 and will basically allow gamers to stream games onto the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Bravia TVs, and even the PS Vita at a later date. That being said, it seems that Sony might have even bigger plans for PlayStation Now and might actually use it to stream older titles from the PS1 and PS2. This is according to the folks at Eurogamer who claims to have a source within Sony’s streaming service who fed them details about Sony’s plans.

However the question is how will Sony adapt these games to modern consoles? After all the graphics on the PS1 and the PS2 can hardly be compared to the likes of the PS3 or the PS4, not to mention televisions got larger and resolutions got higher. This probably means that Sony will have to tweak these games, perhaps even improve on them, to get them to play nicely with today’s technology. In fact this was an issue with upscaling in the PS3 back in the day, but hopefully Sony will be able to work this out. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but it definitely sounds like an interesting idea. After all there were tons of fun games on the PS1 and PS2 that we’re sure many would love to revisit, so what do you guys think? Yay or nay on the PS1/PS2 streaming idea?
