Toshiba Crammed 5 Computers in Its Shape-Shifting Concept 5-in-1 PC

It’s a concept but it’s a super fun one. Toshiba’s shape-shifting concept 5-in-1 PC somehow manages to be a laptop, a tablet, a convertible tablet, a canvas, and a presentation TV-type device. A few of those five might be redundant (and/or useless), but it’s pretty freaking sweet to see one computer try to be everything you want it to be.

Toshiba 5MP Dual Camera Module Begins To Ship

Toshiba 5MP Dual Camera Module Begins To Ship[CES 2014] Right before Christmas, we did come across news that Toshiba has already announced the introduction of a new 5MP dual camera module which is capable of delivering stereo 3D-like images. Well, slightly more than a couple of weeks later, here we are with word that Toshiba has made available sample quantities of the 5MP dual camera module, otherwise known as the TCM9518MD. The TCM9518MD happens to be the industry’s first dual camera module which is capable of simultaneously output recorded images and depth data for smartphones, tablets and mobile devices.

Just how is this made possible? Well, the TCM9518MD’s twin camera modules alongside a dedicated companion LSI chip will get the job done, as they simultaneously deliver deep focus images where foreground and background, alongside the rest of the points in between, happen to be in focus with depth data provided for each object in the picture. For those who are attending CES this week, you will be able to check out this interesting dual camera module right there in Las Vegas, Nevada. The TCM9518MD should be able to give rise to new applications for smartphone, tablets and mobile devices, considering how easy it is to incorporate into existing devices. [Press Release]

Toshiba Unveils 13″ Chromebook For $279, Available February 16

    CB35_ANGLE3

Here at CES 2014, Toshiba has just unveiled a new Chromebook, running Google’s Chrome OS on a 13.3-inch display for the first time, and priced below the $300 mark.

This is the company’s first step into Chrome territory, while competitors like Dell, Lenovo, HP, and Acer have been pumping out the light-as-air notebooks for a while now.

The Toshiba Chromebook is powered by an Intel Haswell chip, with a promised battery life of nine hours.

    Meanwhile, the laptop sports a 13.3-inch 1366 x 768 display, with a .8-inch profile at 3.3 pounds.

On the inside, alongside that Haswell processor, you’ll find 16GB of SSD storage, 2GB of RAM, as well as dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wifi. And once you have Wifi on a Chromebook, the magic really begins.

These devices run on a Chrome OS, which is essentially a beefed up Chrome browser. This means that access to various applications and programs is limited to web apps.

However, Google is working to make the browser experience as complete as possible with the help of Google Apps and Gchat + Hangouts.

Toshiba’s Chromebook is available for $279 starting on February 16.
