Nearly six months after his arrest, one hacker pleaded guilty to charges that he exposed the email addresses of over 100,000 AT&T iPad 3G users. It’s been a year since Daniel Spitler and his compatriot, Andrew Auernheimer, coaxed Ma-Bell servers into delivering the goods, with a brute force script they lovingly named the iPad 3G Account Slurper. The hacker’s plea agreement suggests a 12 to 18-month sentence, which is a lot more lenient than the 10-year maximum we hear he could face. Spitler’s collaborator is apparently still in plea negotiations with the prosecutor. Both men initially claimed they were just trying to draw attention to a security hole, but maybe next time they’ll think twice before embarking on such altruistic endeavors.

There are 53 “official” Jelly Belly flavors available at present, few (if any) of which are MP3 compatible — strange, really, in an era where pretty much everything else is capable of music playback. The company’s new gadget cases are perhaps the next best thing, though despite the fact that they’ll add a candy-like scent to your iPhone, iPod touch, nano, or BlackBerry (sadly not this guy), biting into them will almost certainly void your warranty — and raise your dental co-pay. The cases are currently available and will run you $15 apiece, the same price as the new Jelly Belly-branded headphones, which are similarly recommended for external use only.

Now that HP’s TouchPad has a confirmed July 1st release date, the company’s going to do its darnedest to make sure you’re excited for the slate, and the company’s starting off rather well if you ask us — instead of attempting to find a new anthem, it’s simply showing off what the dual-core tablet actually does. The nine YouTube videos after the break may not be the most exciting things you’ll watch all day, but they certainly do show off the multitasking magic of HP’s card-based operating system. If that’s not nearly enough TouchPad information, though, Geekazine also taped a 37-minute conversation with HP product manager Tim Pettitt, where he reveals that the final TouchPad won’t have a traditional gesture area, but it will recognize the traditional swipe up for opening and closing apps. By the by, all the TouchPad’s accessories have now been priced: you’ll drop $30 for a charger, $50 for the official folding case, $70 for the Bluetooth keyboard, and $80 for the new Touchstone dock. Pricey.

The iOpener is sure to be a sellout success

The iOpener is a real eye-opener. Sorry. The iPhone case/bottle opener layers gimmick on gimmick, but at least it appears to be well made.

The first gimmick is obvious: it’s a bottle opener. However, the case is made of a polycarbonate/ABS mix which won’t break when the retractable 14 gauge, 304 food grade stainless-steel opener is levering the lid off a bottle of delicious beer.

The next gimmick is that it comes with a companion app. This talks to the iPhone within and uses an accelerometer to detect when you have opened a bottle. It then launches an app called BevConX which asks you what you just opened and then lets you share it on Facebook or Twitter. It will also remember where and when you had that beer. This is handy for someone like me who tends to forget everything after the sixth bottle.

Should you not already have an iPhone case and a bottle opener, you can pick up an iOpener for $30.

The Nintendo DS line has had many redesigns up to the present 3DS, but one thing that hasn’t changed are the tiny, easily lost cartridges. Enter Memorex’s $20 Universal Game Selector Case, announced as part of its gaming accessory lineup for E3. The UGSC stores up to three games and hooks up to the cartridge port on any DS, letting you swap between them using a signal routing switch. We’ve seen cases similar to this in the past, but Memorex’s take is the first to support 3DS titles as well. Based on the renders, the unit looks to make for a weird fit and some noticeable extra thickness (10.5mm to be exact), especially on the DSi XL, but hopefully we’ll get a better idea of how it feels in hand at E3. From a functionality perspective, the case does seem rather useful for those with forgetful tendencies, if a bit underwhelming for anybody else. Memorex will also be displaying its new third-party PS3 and Wii motion controllers at the E3, which are viewable in the gallery below, and there’s a press release with details after the break.
