Amazon briefly pulls Cosmo Black Nintendo 3DS due to ‘inventory issues,’ reinstates it moments later

Here’s a weird one. Earlier today, we heard (and confirmed) reports that the Cosmo Black Nintendo 3DS was unavailable for purchase directly through Amazon. We followed up with the company to get to the bottom of things, and were fed this explanation from a company spokesperson:

“We received customer feedback that there may be an inventory issue with the Cosmo Black Nintendo 3DS. The integrity of the product is not under review. Customers are still able to purchase the Amazon.com offer of the Aqua Blue Nintendo 3DS, however the Amazon.com offer of [the] black Nintendo 3DS has been removed until the inventory issue is resolved. There is no problem with the Cosmo Black Nintendo 3DS units themselves. This is an internal inventory problem that was brought to our attention from customer feedback and we are looking into it and will resolve as soon as possible.”

Turns out, “as soon as possible” meant “three minutes later.” As of this very moment in time, the handheld is available and in stock over at the world’s most recognized e-tailer, with the outfit confirming to us that sales “have been reinstated.” At any rate, we suppose this serves to clarify one thing while bringing about a totally separate question — there’s nothing physically wrong with the 3DS so far as Amazon’s concerned, but how on Earth is its inventory team reacting that quickly?

Guitar Hero to be resurrected, retooled, and launch reunion tour

Guitar Hero ResurrectionStop mourning wannabe rock stars — Guitar Hero is coming back. We heard the rumors of its demise were greatly exaggerated, but now word has come straight from Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick that the game is currently being reinvented for a modern, more demanding audience. As he told Forbes, “we’re going to take the products out of the market, and we’re not going to tell anybody what we’re doing for awhile… we’re going to use new studios and reinvent Guitar Hero. And so that’s what we’re doing with it now.” So there you go — Guitar Hero’s retirement was only temporary. Like any good performer it’ll be back before you’ve even had a chance to miss it. Looks like the franchise will keep rocking out well past its prime. What’s the console equivalent of playing a state fair?

Sony’s New Sales Method: Bribery

This article was written on June 06, 2007 by CyberNet.

Playstation3The next time you go into a Gamestop store, you may get a little extra pressure to purchase a PlayStation 3.  Gamer’s Reports is reporting that their source at Gamestop says that Sony is running a contest for Gamestop managers. In other words, they’re bribing managers to step-up their game and sell more PS3’s.

Essentially, each store will have a target amount of PS3’s that they are supposed to sell based upon previous averages.  The manager within a district whose store sells the most above what their target was will win 20,000 points that will be redeemable for Sony/Gamestop items. Additionally, the manager who is number one for the whole company will get 10,000 more points.

The rewards site requires a username and password, so it’s not clear what 20,000 or 30,000 points will buy. I imagine it’s gotta be something good if it’s supposed to motivate managers to sell record amounts of PS3’s.

Okay, perhaps it’s not bribery. This kinda thing has been done in the industry before, but it does seem like a pretty desperate way to get more sales, if you ask me.

Price Cut?

In other PS3 news, Sony may be cutting the price  on the game console sometime this year. Sony’s president Ryoji Chubachi says that Sony “does not rule out the possibility of lowering the price.” It is rumored that the price would drop $100 before the Christmas season.

So is it the price that’s keeping people from purchasing the Playstation 3? If so, what’s a fair price?

Verizon’s Xperia Play now on sale for $100, Crash Bandicoot spins in celebration

Getting your PlayStation-certified gaming fix on just got 50 percent cheaper. Verizon’s cut the price of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play in half on its website, selling for $100 with contract only four months after being greeted with open arms. The price cut is a result of Big Red’s “Back to School” promotion, though it’s difficult to believe this one will come out the other end of the sale any costlier than this. Was this sudden reduction made to instigate a price war with AT&T now that it’s introduced the model to its lineup? Or, is this a last-ditch effort to bolster lackluster sales before the Play is discontinued? It’s hard to say — given its meager selection of PlayStation Suite titles, we can’t imagine that the product’s flying off of shelves. Still, five Jacksons is much more reasonable for anyone who just has to have The Sims 3 on the go, right?

Nintendo Introduces MotionPlus Add-on for Wiimote

This article was written on July 16, 2008 by CyberNet.

While the Wiimote has been able to impress and amaze millions of people out there, it has been lacking something for others. What was it lacking you ask? The capability to sense even the slightest movements. For some games, the Wiimote just wasn’t precise enough in detecting how the user was moving their Wiimote. To help with this problem, Nintendo has released an add-on called MotionPlus.

MotionPlus is the solution to requests for a Wiimote that has superb motion controls. As shown in the photo below, it fits right on to the bottom of the current Wiimote and just extends the length a bit. Because it’s an add-on and not something that Nintendo built right-in to the existing Wiimote, users will have to determine if they want to spend the extra money on it. Unfortunately this new add-on will only work with games designed to take advantage of the technology. This means that all of the games you currently have in your library won’t work with MotionPlus.

wii motionplus.png

At this point there is only one game that takes advantage of MotionPlus and it’s called Wii Sports Resort. You must have the add-on attached to the Wiimote if you want to play the game. Gizmodo put it to the test and said it was undeniable that MotionPlus does add “true 1:1 movement support.” A Nintendo spokesman described it and said “It renders every light shift of the wrist or arm into the gameplay.” Sounds great, doesn’t it?

Now we need to talk about the down-sides of this add-on. First of all, it costs money and will ultimately make the system more expensive. Consumers will need to buy controllers, nunchucks, and now the MotionPlus add-on for a true Wii experience. Another thing to keep in mind is that as game developers put MotionPlus to good use, those who really didn’t want to “upgrade” their controllers will be forced to if they want to be able to play the latest games.

We weren’t able to find any details about pricing, but if it’s anything like the Nunchuck, expect to spend at least $20 on it.
