Hasta La Gadget!

After so much speculation and rumor, it’s hard to believe that Dell’s first modern cellphone is ready to launch. And while we’ve already seen the official press release announcing the Mini 3 for Brazil and China, today we get a followup release with a bit more detail. As expected, the Chinese Mini 3i variant is quadband GSM/EDGE only (no 3G) and packs a 3.5-inch nHD, 640×360 touchscreen display just like that found on Nokia’s N97. The 58.35 x 122 x 11.7-mm OPhone will ship in “Red Passion” and “Oiled Bronze” colors packing Bluetooth, a 3 megapixel auto-focus camera with flash and video capture mode, microSD slot, and GPS with pre-loaded maps. And in case you’re wondering why China first, that’s easy: Dell’s going after China Mobile’s 500 million subscriber base when its first handset hits authorized stores later this week.

Sony’s said to be launching its PS3 motion controllers sometime early next year and, while that company isn’t always the most reliable when it comes to shipping things on time, Microsoft must surely want to get its competition out sooner than later. Last we heard, though, the 360 Natal attachment wouldn’t be ready to compete until next holiday season — but would at least sell for an attractive “impulse buy” price point as low as $50. Now Microsoft’s Neil Thompson (the same guy who told us Xbox2Go was a lie) is shattering your 2010 wish list already, denying last week’s report and saying the company has “a lot of things” left to figure out before its release. Something tells us MS will handle this a little better than the Wireless N launch debacle.

It’s been a few months since Nokia’s X6 hit the scene, but the touchscreen-based, S60-lovin’ smartphone is just about ready to ship out to those who’ve managed to avoid all of the other stellar options that have launched since early September. It seems as if Nokia is gearing up to ship the phone in at least some parts of the world exactly a week from today in concert with a Rihanna release party. And if Expansys is correct, folks in the UK will see their orders ship out on November 12th. Too bad that £529.99 ($891) price tag is darn near debilitating, but hey, awesomeness has its price.

The first Android device from Sony Ericsson may have undergone an upgrade in the naming department, jumping from X3 all the way to XPERIA X10 (probably to avoid confusion with Nokia’s X3 handset), but what lies under the hood is reassuringly in line with what we’ve been hearing. That is to say, a 1GHz Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm, wide 4-inch capacitive touch display, 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash, and a thoroughly tricked out Android skin named Rachael. Sony Ericsson stressed to us the symbiotic importance of both the new flagship device and “open OS” UI — the X10 was presented as the patriarch of a whole new family of handsets, which we can expect to see in the first half of 2010, all sporting the beauty of Rachael and perhaps helping to bridge the gap between featurephones and, well, more advanced featurephones. If 7,000 dominoes fall in a forest of cheering Microsoft employees, do they make enough noise for us to care? We don’t usually tell Microsoft how to run its promotions, but a domino installation that takes a full three minutes to topple is pretty much an open invitation for “slow boot-up” jokes, and a climactic finale that revolves around a hot air balloon version of your logo crashing against a glass ceiling might also create the wrong impression. Ah well, these guys are engineers and not choreographers, after all — you can see the fruit of their labor after the break.
