Apple tablet rumors strike back: 9.6-inch with HSDPA and P.A. Semi processor coming February 2010?

Now that all that iPod mess is over and done with, looks like it’s as good of time as any to return to the world of Apple tablet rumors. A report from Taiwan Economic News starts us off right, with “industry sources” telling the outlet it’ll have a 9.6-inch multitouch screen, built-in HSDPA (so much for Verizon), a P. A. Semi processor, a “long lasting battery pack,” and a $799 to $999 price tag. Most to all of that sounds fairly familiar, but coming along with it is a new timeline: shipments will reportedly be delivered to Apple this December in preparation for a launch in February 2010. As for component providers, Taiwanese company DynaPack will reportedly be the exclusive supplier of battery packs, as much as 300,000 per month, while iPhone screen-maker Wintek will be doing the display duties here, too. The author in question here does appear to have some manufacturing sources — it looks like he was right about the Acer Timeline — but at this point, we’re not ready to believe anything without some photographic evidence of Steve Jobs personally adding the magical unicorn tears.

HTC Leo spotted in the wild, sports gargantuan 800 x 480 display

Those UI elements still a bit too small in Windows Mobile 6.5? It’s no problem at all for the HTC Leo, which has been found at last in the wild. The monstrous handset houses what we’ve heard to be a 4.3-inch screen, and the hardware info screen shows it to be pumping an 800 x 480 resolution with a 1GHz Qualcomm 8250B Snapdragon processor — excuse us while we allow a tingle to run leisurely up and down our spine. It dwarfs the Touch Pro2 (a largish handset in its own right) in head to head comparisons, and seems strikingly similar to earlier leaks — even down to that dual LED flash and the Pro.Three moniker on the back.

HP Envy 15 spotted, looking pretty real

We’ve heard chatter of HP-branded Envy machines in the past — most notably the 13.1-inch Envy 13 — and now we have specs for an alleged Envy 15-1060ea Notebook PC. According to topproduct.nl, the laptop features a 15-inch display, 1600 MHz Intel Core i7 processor-720QM CPU (6MB cache), 320GB HDD, 4GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 graphics, a Night Vision Webcam with IR LEDs for fans of the “Paris Hilton” school of videography, a 6-cell battery, Windows 7 Home Premium, and more. Get a closer look after the break.

[Thanks, Eric]

HP Envy 13 exhumed lacking Voodoo DNA

It’s been months since we’ve heard a peep from Voodoo or its swaggering founder, Rahul Sood. Now it seems that one of the changes headed to the Voodoo brand is no branding at all judging by the pics of this purported Envy 13 from parent company HP — it steals both the name and size-indicative numbering from the Voodoo Envy 133 without a hint to its heritage. The 13.1-inch laptop is said to run Windows 7 on an Intel chipset. Visually we can see a pair of USB jacks, HDMI, and trackpad that looks to be packing some special sauce. A peak at Sood’s Twitter account calls Tuesday “D Day” with the promise of “new product coming out in September/October (ish),” that will make you, “the envy of all your friends.” In other words, we expect to learn more tomorrow. Backside pic after the break, more over at notebook italia.

Earlier iPod touch with camera leak vindicated in light of 3rd gen teardown

That mysterious 6- x 6- x 3-millimeter slot found within the most recent iPod touch teardown? We were pretty sure it was the eventual resting place for a camera sensor, but now we’ve got mounting evidence with the discovery of a missing link. If you recall, there was an August-borne leak of an iPod touch with camera that showed said slot filled with a chip that, in hindsight, looks to match up well with the video camera sensor in the 5G iPod nano (check out step 17). This revelation doesn’t get us any closer to snapping videos with the touchscreen PMP, but we do have a few more questions for Steve to dodge.

Time looking to kick out the e-readers after all?

Hey — this one makes sense, so we shouldn’t be too surprised, but it turns out that Time, Inc. is seriously looking into getting into the e-reader business, according to a leaked presentation from June of this year. The slides, which are entitled “New Platforms & Business Models for Publishers,” also contained notes which had been updated as late as this past August, indicating that Time has plans to launch a product as soon as the end of this year. Though Time had said back in March that it had “no interest” in getting into the e-reader biz, it’s not terribly shocking to hear that they were either fibbing or changed their minds, considering how the market’s been heating up lately, combined with the deaths of many, many print mags. NBC contacted Dawn Bridges — a spokesperson for Time — about the story, who said the company is “speaking with a number of hardware and software companies as well as other content companies about various projects.” Vague enough for you?

Sprint newsletter lets slip Instinct HD

Samsung still hasn’t come completely clean with its forthcoming Instinct HD, but it might as well. A recent Sprint Premier Connection newsletter not only introduced the Any Mobile, Anytime plan that was detailed this morning, but it also let slip a staggeringly pixelated image of the Instinct HD. Sprint tells us a few things we already knew — like how the phone has a 3.2-inch display that’s decidedly not high-def, a 5 megapixel camera and an improved web browser — while leaving us to wonder about things like price after rebate. We’ll take “Coming soon!” to mean “within the next month or so.” Right, Sprint?

[Thanks, Ellis]

T-Mobile BlackBerry Onyx press image leaks out

The BlackBerry Onyx hasn’t exactly kept itself a secret in the past few months, so it’s no surprise that we’re seeing what looks to be the official press image and release from T-Mobile well before the handset’s launch. No big surprises here, really — it’s still a 3G mashup of the Bold and the Curve 8900 with that new optical trackball — but apparently RIM’s preloading it with the Amazon MP3 store, so that’s slightly interesting. From what we can tell, it’s due in early November, but pricing is still a mystery — hopefully RIM and T-Mobile have saved the best surprise for last.

“3rd-Generation” iPod touch accessories appear on Best Buy’s website

At this point it would be bigger news if Apple didn’t announce new iPods tomorrow, but just in case you had some doubts, Best Buy’s gone ahead and posted up some listings for Belkin’s “3rd-Generation” iPod touch cases a little early. Sadly, there aren’t any pictures to be had, but hey — we’ve already seen a few of these cases in person, you know? They’re putting cameras in iPods, people. What happens next… is up to you.

Update: And hey — looks like there are some 5G iPod nano cases listed as well. Shocking!

AT&T yanks BlackBerry Bold visual voicemail software update

Hope you Bold owners out there managed to snag AT&T’s BlackBerry Bold visual voicemail software update while it lasted, because an internal memo leaked to BGR says it’s been pulled due to compatibility problems with “network enhancements being deployed.” That sounds to us like there’s an issue with either those 850MHz 3G rollouts or whatever black magic Ma Bell’s doing to get iPhone MMS up and running, but either way, it’s one more fire for AT&T’s engineers to put out while its customers sit around waiting.

Update: AT&T just sent us their official word on the matter — and they also told us it has nothing to do with MMS or 850. Check it out after the break.
